Him and Bumgarner were the only consistent pitching against the cardinals in that series...Zito really redeemed himself the entire postseason, glad he got to finish it out like that
@@MrJIMMYDANUB MadBum wasnt good in this postseason besides his game 2 WS start. Vogelsong was probably the best pitcher for the Giants in this postseason.
This has to be one of my favorite Giants games of all-time. I was at the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix, drinking and waiting for the Jane's Addiction concert to start. Underneath the horse track, there was a room with glass windows and a bunch of old men playing with a massive train set. One of the men had an old TV wedged underneath the table, and I just sat there watching Pablo's at-bats. The old man with the TV had a Tigers hat on, and just shook his head at me. After each home run, I'd just shrug and drink some beer while laughing. Glad someone drove me home that night. Worth it. xD
As a giants fan i was hyped for this game. i was terrified at the lineup for detroit because of their power hitters but the giants momentum was just too much. Panda taking verlander deep 3 times was highlight of the decade lmao.
Barry Zito, NLCS Game 5 vs the Cardinals and WS Game 1 vs Detroit, to most of us Giants fans, those two games made up for the horrible contract the Giants gave to Zito.
Easily. He was terrible for the Giants for the most part but the fact that he showed up in 2 of the biggest games of his career, made his contract totally worth it. I was 10 years old and he was the unsung hero for me.
Lmao watching these Giants teams were so satisfying. Just great baseball to watch all around. Smart, tough, resilient, everything you want in a ball club.
Josh Neumann - Verlander 1st ring in 2017 - Scherzer 1st ring in 2019 - Sanchez 1st ring in 2019 - Porcello 1st ring in 2018 Their future World Series accomplishments mean nothing when they all had zero in 2012.
Who would’ve thought that the long relief giants pitcher had 2 cy youngs and the 8th inning reliever in a blow out would be a future cy young winner. There are a lot of cy young awards on these rosters combined both future (for 2012) and past
You wanna talk about working the count and being smart with the bat… 97 pitches in the 5th inning against a prime/dominate Verlander. Some of the smartest baseball I’ve ever seen played in this World Series by the Giants.
I remember thinking, "Zito vs. Verlander????.... well hope we can get them in game 2". Man Zito was awful for so many years, and in two starts (this and NLCS Game 5), he makes it all worth it
I was at a World Series game, 2010, Giants, and a foul ball came backwards, a guy caught it, a dad wanted to buy it for his kid, the guy gave it to him for free. This hurts so much! My damn Tigers have become a joke of a franchise since 2012…the Giants really put the nail on our coffin😭. Shoutout to San Francisco though, ya’ll Giants are on fire right now!
Only this that was missing was Verlander getting yanked. The expression on his face when Leyland goes out on the mound to pull. I honestly think that was the first time Verlander got yanked early...
Pablo was raking this game. He had some memorable playoff moments for the Giants. Fun Fact: Verlander plus acting classes and being a big Owen Wilson fan = @7:03
not to mention yall were picked to win it, as far as i remember and yall had the bomb squad with fielder leading it. i was terrified at what your lineup was going to do. but pitching prevailed and momentum kept the giants going
The only criticism I have of this video is that it omits McCarver and Buck's comments before Zito's single. Basically both guys said he had no chance and the inning was over. But then again, no one gave the Giants a chance in this series. 2012 was a great year
Has any single player been victimized by the same team more times than Omar Infante? Braves in 2010, Tigers in 2012 and Royals in 2014. If I wasn't a Giants fan, I would feel bad for him.
"Starting pitching: 2 stars out of 1 for the Tigers." Tigers starter's record: 0-3 (Schretzer's only one without a loss). Giants starter's record: 3-0, with 2 consecutive shutouts (Cain only one without a win). Also: Verlander's wins in the postseason in 2012 are equal to the home runs Panda in Game 1.

Lincecum wasn't really a starter in the 2012 playoffs. He'd struggled a ton during the regular season (5.18 ERA), and was used almost exclusively for long relief instead in the playoffs. Pablo's 3 Homer's were legendary. Off one of the greatest pitchers of his day. Like Verlander said .WOW
Redemption for Barry Zito, especially after the rough time he had as a Giant. Going head to head with Verlander and getting the better of him.
