  • Learning to clear jumps and perfect a line of jumps is a skill that we all want to learn and perfect on our Mountain bikes. In this video I am teaching Kara how to clear a 5 set of tabletop jumps at Twisted Oaks bike park.
Kara is a complete MTB beginner but she is progressing well and for me teaching her its been really rewarding seeing her progress to this level. We started on the basics and progressed through beginner MTB tricks, learnt how to ride corners, hills and common bike park features including jumps and even step downs using the MTB hopper pro kicker!
These tabletop jumps at Twisted Oaks bike park are absolutely perfect for learning to flow jumps... firstly there is no gap to worry about, secondly they are a decent size allowing you to full understand the take off, air time and landing and finally tabletops really help you to build confidence as a beginner MTB rider!
We hope that you enjoy the video! :)

Love that line, can’t get near clearing the first two let alone the whole line but this is good advice I can take to the two smaller jumps in the training area of Twisted. Just waiting on my shoulder to heal up but I’m pretty old now so it is taking forever! Love all your vids.

Perfect! I think I'll be trying it on the line to the left next time I am at Twisted Oaks though. Kara's skills have progressed so much since I started watching.

I’d be stoked to jump half as good as Kara’s first jumps. This is an advanced how-to for me. :-) since I don’t put in the work. Nice video!

Good advise Tom! I think I need to work on pumping, I managed to clear the first jump perfect there at Twisted, and totally cased the rest... I think a re visit is on the cards 🤔 🤟

This is something I struggle with, I think I, maybe without realising, squash the take offs, plus I struggle with speed, watching videos most people seem to move slowly but get loads of air, I guess technique helps. Really interesting video!

When I go to a jump park, I've tried two methods. a) lock out my rear sus, b) pump up rear sus to the limit (medium rebound).
I find that with lock out, the timing of pumping was very different because it's like a hardtail. The pumping timing required for shock-to-max-psi was closer to the more familiar "jumping features on trails" feel as the rear still moves a bit.

This was excellent! I have gotten really good at jumps this size. Where I have an issue is hitting the bigger jumps at higher speeds. When I was at Trestle Bike Park in Colorado 2 summers ago I was hitting some bigger jumps at higher speed and my back wheel would sometimes kick up and make me nose down which scared the crap out of me considering I was going well over 20 MPH. It seems the take-off on those jumps, even without a steep transition, is a bit different. Maybe a slower pump? I definitely had my rebound lower so the rear shock wasn't kicking my back end up. If you do a video on the higher speed jumps like the ones you and Sam do all the time that would be greatly appreciated.

Really helpful video, looks like the timing of absorbing the landing, pumping and then setting up for the next jump are key.

Wait... I'm at 2:35 and you didn't tell us what you changed. (If anything)
You said make everything stiff but does that mean you locked out that fork which looked pretty soft when Kara bounced the bike about fifteen seconds before?

She really should tie up her hair so it doesn’t get in her eyes while jumping. Maybe do some cross training. Overcoming the mental aspect is only half of the battle. You have to be strong enough to physically do the tricks or you are going to have a bad crash.
