    I love your tips and how well it is going to round out fatigue and the reason is longer knitting and or faster knitting by the 1hour &1/2 to break relax get some hand stretches in and up for some beverage. The prayer shawls are the knit, purl design along with of course lace or fringe. The various styles helps with such fatigue and also allows to practice proficiency along with other skills and abilities to use tools and understand good substitutions. Thank you!

    Ironically my grandmother (from Italy) taught me “lever” knitting when I was very, very young. When I got older, anyone that saw me knit told me I was “knitting incorrectly”, so I taught myself not to knit that way (sadly). I have been trying to retrain myself all these years later! Her needles flew, and as a child mine did too - never like hers though lol. So thank you for your video on it😊 As for ribbing, I taught myself Portuguese knitting first and then settled on continental knitting to do 2 color double knitting, that is when I discovered combination knitting. That is how I do knit/purl combos now, but like you, I am an English knitter at heart lol

    This video is so timely for me as I am embarking on a scarf with seed stitch that alternates yarns each row. The resulting stitch is very attractive but a pain to knit English style. (Lever knitting rules for me BTW) so I think this scarf will be my Continental voyage in knitting OR I may adopt one of your terrific hints for speeding up the seed stitch English style so big thank you for those! I find you very engaging, down to earth and informative. I do have one suggestion which is to use thicker yarn and bigger needles in some demonstrations so as to make the process easier to see. When you zoom in it actually blurs the motions. I am using my phone until I get a new laptop so that may figure into visibility issue. Thanks for the show!

    I have tried a 2×2 ribbing and with the lever knitting, i have found the combination knitting helpful, especially for the purls. Moving counter clockwise to purl I have been having a lot of trouble keeping everything together. Have you found combination knitting for lever easier when working ribbing?

    • @CarrieCraftGeek
      @CarrieCraftGeek  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use clockwise purls situationally, for example ribbing, when lever knitting but usually stick with western.
      It definitely took a bit to figure out the purls with lever knitting. I found I have to angle my hand differently since the left needle is on the opposite side of the right needles so my right hand has to come over the top of the right needle a bit. Once I figured that out a f got the muscle memory down everything stabilized.
      That said if combo knitting works better for you I would embrace it. There’s a lot of advantages wrapping purl clockwise. You just have to understand how combo knitting and stitch mount effects the way to approach things like decreases.

  • @valeriekoochin3569
    @valeriekoochin3569 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So if you wrap your purls clockwise in continental, does that give you a twisted stitch? Or make things complicated when you try and do decreases etc.? That’s the way I was doing it when I started learning, but have since learned it is “wrong”. It was certainly easier! I now am trying Norwegian, but I am so slow. I dread doing ribbing!

      Great question! First, you were not doing it wrong when wrapping your yarn clockwise around the needle. It's called Eastern Knitting. And in fact, when I do knit Continental, to purl I wrap clockwise and to knit I wrap counterclowise. This is Combo knitting, aka Russian Speed Knitting.
      But, yes, if you utilize the Eastern purl, wrapping your yarn clockwise, there are some things you have to differently in order to avoid twisting stitches and approaching decreases. I don't think it's complicated but it takes some getting used to.
      I have a video where I talk about Eastern vs Western Knitting here: th-cam.com/video/Q4whMiGhprU/w-d-xo.html
      And in this video, I do discuss the left and right-leaning decreases , and I think can help to explain how stitch mount affects them. th-cam.com/video/PDkUaF8d1Hw/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks a thousand times or more! I had to train myself until it was called „knitting“ bse noone told me how to do it. Then, when after over a week l had a kind of cast on and right knits one row, left knits the other and others saw this they told me l was wrong bse l knit right stitches with right le" behind my left needle so to stitch in the leg so that THEY , if knitting, had a switched knit stitch. I was confused bse my knitting, when done, exactly looked as mine! That l told them. They wondered, said yes, but l were wrong. I wasn't explained what exactly l did wrong. They didn't knit when we met, put time by time had a new great done fabric, a shawl, a pullover, s.th.like that. It took very long, over 3 months, but then my pullover, a norvegian pullover, knit all in one piece , with a yoke, without sewing anything, and with a pattern in 3 colours at the top, at the sleeves and down directly before tthe ribbing, finally was done. I put it on, conceived of nothing, went to my friends and sat down. Suddenly noone talked. Then, slowly, the loudest of the group stood off and came to me. She said: Who worked that? It's fine! Did you give up your worthless knitting?
    I was so, so… overwhelmed and furious! But then it broke out of my mouth: lt's my project, can't you see? My colours, my fabric! They first didn't believe me, it was a torture. Only two of them helped me when the others loughed at me. Unimportant to say: lt was the last evening they could call me their „friend“! The 2 who were at my side and l were friends instead, over 10 years. I often hear that l knit wrong if l do it that way so l began to watch YT to learn how to knit "right". Very seldom there was one who really knit close to others. Once l could see at YT how they knit the european style l knew: They did everything the other way so at the end it was the same: nothing „wrong“! After a while l watched „Nele“. That was a happy day: she said „guys, don't think s.th.'s wrong with me, l knit the russian style! So l knit the leg behind the needle..... she explained why this didn't fabric a twisted stitch… from then on l knit proud my way and when (again!) s.o.told me l was wrong l in tone l knew what l say said: NO! YOU are! Why, l ask YOU, my knitting after all looks as nice as it does if l knit wrong? And if they didn't understand (often) l showed them it is the leg l knit which opens the stitch in my fabric and if suddenly l knit their way first row were twisted! I showed them. They shut up their loud mouth and l? I won! After a while l learned peruvian style, too, which is fantastic if l have several rounds or rows in purling (l always have my yarn in front of the fabric, it 's done around my neck and been helt at the right hand where it comes down my neck, l only have to flick the yarn with my left thumb over the needle, put the yarn through the stitch and that's it!!!)
    But l - who am a knitting teacher in our urban seddlement of the city - wanted to learn a style l can knit easier after my accidental surgery some years before, after which my hands and arms shivver as if l had Parkinson but l haven't , it comes from this bitter done surgery which left me so! Docs said l hardly could knit one simple stitch shivvering that much that l had to search for another hobby. I play guitar and they said l can't further on, either! So l wanted more than before bse THEY don't tell me what l'm able to do! Lever knitting was the way l chose bse that style seems very well for me. I tried for a few days till now and it gets better! After some stitches at beginning of a row l'm faster, it's great! But my needles are those for socks now, l wanna knit socks no the lever style and l got 9" circulars by a red lace set of Chiaogoo: these are so fantastic!
    I bought the red lace complete set of 2,75 mm up to 10,00 mm, in addition, too, the 2,00 mm, 2,25 mm and 2,75 mm, all needles ab.12 mm long, and this tiny red lace set ( , all needles only 2" and 3" , ) too. And, btw, l bought the blue lace set, according to the others, 3,2 mm to 5, 00 mm, in 2" and 3" - needles, too. These needles l chose are lace and surgery steel which is great for my speed, brushed but a bit shiny, so not tooooo slippery to lose the yarn but slippery enough never to slow me down. There is a complete set made of bamboo, too, 2,75 mm to 10,00 mm, too. It's the fastest and slippery and sharpest bamboo l've ever knit with! I put some money by side to buy it one day, too. This might be usefull, according to the yarn l'll knit with. With these quick - fast - running - speedy needles l love to knit now and to try all kinds of knitting l want to learn. I got HiyaHiya, too, but the plastic cables are not as well for me as the wire- based and nylon coated as it is by CG. So l dremeled some adapters - L to S and S to mini (l flatened the step of the adapters bse the cables of CG don't need it ), and now with these adapters l can use the cables of CG with the Hiyahiya - needles, too! They're this sharp! Sharper needles aren't at the market since nowadyas. If l knit more than 3 stitches tog.l like to knit with the HH's bse they are the sharpest. All the other times it's the same to me which needle branding l put out of my case. Both are brushed, HH has written small but very well to read the size onto every needle. CG has written in bigger letters but more difficult to read. So it depends of my mood what l chose, both are best. Going to knitting after this excourse, YOUR explaining gave me the rest of what l was figuring out: how to fasten this style! I knew there has to be s.th, but after 2 days … And l was so lucky to watch this video! Thank you so, so much!
    Your sentence : l'm the boss of my knitting! - let me run tears over my face! If only l would have had this opinion of me in former situations l wouldn't have doubt myself this long (over 30 years !!!!! I never knit close to others not to hear l was „wrong“).
    I'm 56, s.th.more happened and now, sitting in my electrified wheelz l finally am able to say: NO! They are wrong if they say l'm wrong! My knitting and all my fabrics, my pupils, tell me l'm right! And: most of them can't knit socks! I can!As teen a norwegian pullover was the first fabric, one piece, l told before. Now, after first shock after accidental surgery, my first thing was to knit socks! Watching YT l did what she said and my sock with a boomerang heel fitted great. I did the second and now all the times l knit socks, even if l knit other projects. I must do a different thing from time to time and it needs longer since l'm finished bse of my disability in my hands etc. I made a thumb up, of course, l 'll watch all your vids from now on, the bell will tell me bse l subscribed, of course, too! Please, l beg you pardon for all my mistakes in writing! I'm no native speaker and it's 36 years ago l left school after 13th class. I seldom used my English again till my son needed it at school. I love different languages. If you can't understand anything please ask me, l'll use other words. Be blessed and stay, masked etc., well and healthy! Yours, Conny from Germany
