Your instruction is perfectly balanced by practical demonstration and technical analysis. And all in clear and concise language. You don't use words just to make noise.

You will attract an audience that will respond to your style, and I've a feeling that it will be a fabulous variety of personalities and ages. An all-inclusive audience for an all-inclusive teacher. And if you add components such as exclusive videos downloadable only after purchasing the book, perhaps international seminars around the world, etc., I'd bet they'll be queueing around blocks for your book/seminar. I'd pay to be in one of your seminars and I've been knitting for 30something years.
I agree 100%. I knit a lot into my 20's, but having children and a job meant that I didn't have as much time for hobbies. Now that my kids are older I have started knitting again, and I have watched a lot of TH-cam knitting tutorials. Yours are among the very best. Not only are your tips technically good, but you also give options for different types of knitters and give gentle guidance which encourages us to remember why fell in love with knitting in the first place.
I clicked in this video expecting to learn new ways to knit faster (which I did!) What I did not anticipate is how lovely, warm, and friendly you are. Those comments at the end were very touching for someone who struggles with perfectionism in everything, not just knitting. So glad I found you!
Love the pep talk near the end encouraging knitters not to be so hard on themselves! I have taught knitting for 45 year and it amazes me how often people take themselves to task and devaluate their craft. Knitting is fun!!!
You are so Kind compassionate to us learning from you.. I am actually in tears.. I have always been afraid of going past knitting and Purling .. I’ve made large blankets only to find I made mistakes. They are hard for me to back track and fix.. I learned to crochet from my Nanny. She did doilies the most beautiful ones. I can backtrack crocheting. I will watch your purling. When my eyes clear up.. I lost the Love of my life not long ago..My husband whom I melted into. Just snuggling. He had the strong arms chest. The Only Man who taught me what real Love is.. Omg you are such a super star.👏👏👏 I am an English flicker knitter and I am rather fast. I tried continental knitting but find that I am slower at that so I have just decided that we all just have to find out which style suits us as an individual!😇
I'm usually a flicker,, but I can knit Continental style as well. In fact, I use both when knitting colour work. I carry one yarn in each hand, and work the individual stitches in the requisite colour, either flicking or picking as needed. Much more efficient than constantly dropping one colour and picking up the other.

Thank you for reminding us that it's about the experience of making and not how perfectly, or in my case imperfectly we do it. I sometimes want to give up when I feel like my tension and speed isn't improving. On the other hand, I've learned a lot in the last year. Glad I found your videos, they help tremendously.
Take your time April...most knitters will continue to do so until their 80ies. No need to get it all right at the begining. :) And as you say, you learned a lot in the last year and that's something you can look back to and be proud of! Some people don't try to learn new things at all.

Knitting is an art. The creation of that art should be what gives you the pleasure and not so much having an end product. So enjoy the trip more than the destination. My son once asked my why I keep spinning more yarn when I haven’t used much of what I have made so far. He thinks it’s a waste of my time. I enjoy the process of spinning and watching fluff turn into yarn which I could use. I really like washing my winter creations in summer and seeing all the lovely stuff hanging there. It gives me a sense of pride. Nevermind that it’s not as even as it’s’supposed’ to be. Wasted time ? No! The joy in the process and the glow inside at the lovely hanks is worth the clutter in my cupboard :)
2 weeks ago i started to knit my first top. yesterday i really got frustrated because I made a mistake and had to open up quite a lot. And at the moment i watch a lot of knitting podcasts and these people work on so many projects and are so fast! in comparison i felt so bad, your words at the and of this video come at the right moment❤ thanks for the encouragement, i really enjoy your videos & messages!

Thank you so much for such an informative video! I really enjoyed it! I am an English knitter but recently tried knitting Continental style in order to speed up a bit. While it has certainly helped me with stranded colour work, I found Continental knitting quite painful for my arthritic hands so decided to stick with my throwing. Your video has reminded me that although my to do list just keeps getting longer and longer, I prefer to enjoy my knitting rather than speed knit my way through a sweater in under a week. very well said. And really, do whatever does your good. Nobody else can tell you that! it's all about the joy :) PS: For me throwing is very painful in the long run. So, just another important reminder that there is no right or wrong in knitting.
I learned knitting the English style, which caused me a lot of pain in the hands and wrists, after a decade. I tried Continental knitting, but never managed to get the tension right. When I discoverd Norwegian knitting (through Arne & Carlos videos), it changed my knitting life, at least for the level of pain. If you have arthritis, maybe that style could help you. In the end, no matter what styles were knitting in, the important thing is to be able to enjoy our passion and have happy knitting time :)

@@NimbleNeedles why not both? I’m not opposed to supporting creatives who have something of value to offer if it means by doing so they can offer more content. Your expertise and way of communicating is impeccable. I think you would have a lot to offer on a platform like Skillshare or Craftsy. As someone who has used both and been mostly disappointed by what’s available there, i would have still saved money even if I paid for one of your classes as opposed to having paid for several classes from instructors who did not elevate my understanding of knitting in the same way you have. That said, I’m a broke girl so cut me a discount if you ever go that route? 😂

Norman, i love your last tip: knitting is not a race! We run around like headless chicken in our daily life fast enough without having to rush knitting. I have been knitting a 1950's fair isle cardigan since beginning of october and i'm finishing it today but i also knit a chunky sweater from start to finish for my bf last week. There was no competition which one i enjoyed knitting the most... yep, the number 3.25 mm fair isle cardigan is the slow knitting olympics winner!
I have some Norwegian friends and you are so like them. Norman your style of knitting is so relaxing. I knit the Norwegian way. This is a quick way to knit but sometimes I like to knit slowly. I enjoy every stitch. Now I listen to your accent more closely I can hear the Germannic style. Germany is a lovely country and the German people are so warm and friendly. I hope we can keep in touch. Germans..warm and friendly? You must have been to a different part of my country. Here, far in the south, people are more like crumpy and reserved :P I do have some Norwegian friends as well. Hello from the tropical island of Puerto Rico. Between May and June I decided to knit a couple of things for my son. Because I have not knit nor crochet after I learned years ago, I started watching knitting and crochet videos. I subscribed to a couple of them that I liked but nothing like your channel and Barbara Benson's channel. I have learned so much from you and her that you have no idea. Both are knitting channels but a lot of the information applies also to crochet like the advice to make a swatch, to block the swatch and the pieces, what type of needles to use, to enjoy what you are doing and to not compare yourself with other knitters or crocheters. These are great tips. I like what you said about loving the hobby being more important than being fast. The tensioning tip made an immediate difference for me - I’m sure eventually it will help me knit faster but in the first instance it simply felt better, like I had more control. The only thing I changed was wrapping it around my little finger once and suddenly it felt sooo much more comfortable. So in that sense I can enjoy knitting more even if I don’t knit faster! Thank you!!!

Thank so much for this video! I have started learning stranded color work and it became clear very early on that learning continental knitting would help make it easier. I originally clicked on this to learn about knitting faster, but I ended up getting a lot of great tips on continental and finally got my tension to improve. I also love your comments about the joy of knitting, not the speed. When I have finished a project, I don't see how quickly I knit it, I only see the quality of it and have the sense of accomplishment that I made myself or someone else an item that they will cherish and enjoy. Much knitting wisdom in this video. :)

I learned the very basics as a child from my mom, but had to relearn once I became an adult. I subscribed to you, cuz it looks like your videos will really help me improve, since I no longer have my mom.
I know you said you don't have to change your style of knitting - but I think I'm going to. I learned with the English style, but I'm a far more proficient crocheter than knitter. I think holding the yarn in the left hand and "hooking" with the right needle might produce better results for me and allow me to go faster as this is quite similar to how the yarn is held and hooked in crochet. I like how you knit reminds me of my grandmother. She was Czech. She taught me when I was young then at school I was taught differently. Gave up knitting until I had my child now have combined both styles in a way that suits me.

I watched your tips on how to knit faster and I didn’t subscribe until the very in when you spoke about not giving up on something you are passionate about. Knitting is new to me, I crochet, draw, write poetry, cook, and well not much I wouldn’t at least try on. Knitting did come easy but the part of how slow was getting to me. I enjoy the process of spinning and watching fluff turn into yarn which I could use. I really like washing my winter creations in summer and seeing all the lovely stuff hanging there. It gives me a sense of pride. Nevermind that it’s not as even as it’s’supposed’ to be. Wasted time ? No! The joy in the process and the glow inside at the lovely hanks is worth the clutter in my cupboard :)

2 weeks ago i started to knit my first top. yesterday i really got frustrated because I made a mistake and had to open up quite a lot. Thank you so much for such an informative video! I really enjoyed it! I am an English knitter but recently tried knitting Continental style in order to speed up a bit. While it has certainly helped me with stranded colour work, I found Continental knitting quite painful for my arthritic hands so decided to stick with my throwing. Your video has reminded me that although my to do list just keeps getting longer and longer, I prefer to enjoy my knitting rather than speed knit my way through a sweater in under a week. PS: For me throwing is very painful in the long run. So, just another important reminder that there is no right or wrong in knitting.
I learned knitting the English style, which caused me a lot of pain in the hands and wrists, after a decade. I tried Continental knitting, but never managed to get the tension right. When I discoverd Norwegian knitting (through Arne & Carlos videos), it changed my knitting life, at least for the level of pain. If you have arthritis, maybe that style could help you. In the end, no matter what styles were knitting in, the important thing is to be able to enjoy our passion and have happy knitting time :)

@@NimbleNeedles why not both? I’m not opposed to supporting creatives who have something of value to offer if it means by doing so they can offer more content. Your expertise and way of communicating is impeccable. I think you would have a lot to offer on a platform like Skillshare or Craftsy. As someone who has used both and been mostly disappointed by what’s available there, i would have still saved money even if I paid for one of your classes as opposed to having paid for several classes from instructors who did not elevate my understanding of knitting in the same way you have. That said, I’m a broke girl so cut me a discount if you ever go that route? 😂

Norman, i love your last tip: knitting is not a race! We run around like headless chicken in our daily life fast enough without having to rush knitting. I have been knitting a 1950's fair isle cardigan since beginning of october and i'm finishing it today but i also knit a chunky sweater from start to finish for my bf last week. There was no competition which one i enjoyed knitting the most... yep, the number 3.25 mm fair isle cardigan is the slow knitting olympics winner!

I have some Norwegian friends and you are so like them. Norman your style of knitting is so relaxing. I knit the Norwegian way. This is a quick way to knit but sometimes I like to knit slowly. I enjoy every stitch. Now I listen to your accent more closely I can hear the Germannic style. Germany is a lovely country and the German people are so warm and friendly.

Hello from the tropical island of Puerto Rico. Between May and June I decided to knit a couple of things for my son. Because I have not knit nor crochet after I learned years ago, I started watching knitting and crochet videos. I subscribed to a couple of them that I liked but nothing like your channel and Barbara Benson's channel. I have learned so much from you and her that you have no idea. Both are knitting channels but a lot of the information applies also to crochet like the advice to make a swatch, to block the swatch and the pieces, what type of needles to use, to enjoy what you are doing and to not compare yourself with other knitters or crocheters. These are great tips. I like what you said about loving the hobby being more important than being fast. The tensioning tip made an immediate difference for me - I’m sure eventually it will help me knit faster but in the first instance it simply felt better, like I had more control. The only thing I changed was wrapping it around my little finger once and suddenly it felt sooo much more comfortable. So in that sense I can enjoy knitting more even if I don’t knit faster! Thank you!!!

Thank so much for this video! I have started learning stranded color work and it became clear very early on that learning continental knitting would help make it easier. I originally clicked on this to learn about knitting faster, but I ended up getting a lot of great tips on continental and finally got my tension to improve. I also love your comments about the joy of knitting, not the speed. When I have finished a project, I don't see how quickly I knit it, I only see the quality of it and have the sense of accomplishment that I made myself or someone else an item that they will cherish and enjoy. Much knitting wisdom in this video. :)

I know you said you don't have to change your style of knitting - but I think I'm going to. I learned with the English style, but I'm a far more proficient crocheter than knitter. I think holding the yarn in the left hand and "hooking" with the right needle might produce better results for me and allow me to go faster as this is quite similar to how the yarn is held and hooked in crochet. Thank you for this very informative video :)

I like how you knit reminds me of my grandmother. She was Czech. She taught me when I was young then at school I was taught differently. Gave up knitting until I had my child now have combined both styles in a way that suits me.
Well, my grandparents actually lived very close to the (then) border. So, that could explain things :)

I love this channel. Whether I'm cooking or knitting along, I find them easy to follow along with. Your voice is also very soothing to listen to. I'm currently working on a dish cloth following one of your other videos, and it's just working up beautifully. I love my homemade dish cloths, and have been wanting to knit some up for ages (bored of the same old same old crochet options).
