I just appreciate how easy you made my dyslexic brain understand this. A geode will be later but i even understand this and it seems absolutely doable because of your simple no filler talking points. Thank you!!!!!
I've been tie dying my whole life. This is somehow completely foreign to me and simultaneously the most easy thing to understand because your voice is so beautiful and so honest about where I'm going/ what will happen. I'm so excited to try this now, thank you!
Hey ! I am a long time tie dyer. Also, an art teacher. The way you describe such detailed instruction is wonderful. It's really beautiful you are taking the time to share this craft with people for free! I know it must be a lot of work to film. I am making the transition from rubber bands to sinew today, and following along! I'll let you know how my geode turns out. Just wanted to say thanks and you're awesome :)
What a wild and beautiful design! It looks like the shirt was printed with a photo of actual stones...so impressive that you achieved such a realistic appearance from tie dye!

I'm so glad you like it, ice dyeing is one of my favorite techniques! Most dye powders are mixed from a variety of dye colors, and ice dyeing allows those component colors to split out of the dye color. Those color splits and the dye movement that happens with ice dyeing are some of my favorite things about it. 😀
Add some soda ash to the dye, it will pour through those spoons waaay easier :) 2:1 light colors, 3:1 dark. May have mentioned this to you elsewhere but maybe this will help others! Shirt came out terrific!

Dharma Trading Company has FANTASTIC customer service. I was dyeing fabric for a quilt. I was trying to match a portion of a panel I was using, so I sent them a link to a photo of the panel and asked "what dye do I want to match this area? Navy? Teal? Something else?" I expected to hear back in a few days. Dharma got back to me the _same day!_ And the teal dye they suggested was perfect!

Side note, I just bought these spoons and a sugar writer. I haven’t tried them yet because I’ve been doing a lot of liquid dye. The friends on FB say the tools work best when the dye is mixed with soda ash... I watch all of your commercials in their entirety. I hope that’s helps a little. 😉
I agree - I think that they would work great for HWI where you mix the dye with soda ash. They were OK, but since the dye is so fine it stuck to the culinary spoon too much to flow smoothly. I feel like the soda ash would help break that up and make it work really well.
@@FunEndeavors agreed. I’m not able to try HWI until our weather warms up and can go outside. I dye in someone else’s sun porch during the week and dyeing in her bathtub is not an option. Until I know what I’m doing I fear it could be rather messy. 😬
