  • A piano arrangement of the music that plays while exploring the 23rd dungeon accessed in the video game Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.
    (Very minor spoilers!)
    This unsettling, yet grand piece of music plays in the first dungeon we go to after leaving the future. Being the home of one of the time gears, it's unsurprising how mystical this one feels! In particular, there are those stereotypically 'Japanese'/'Asian' vibes given off by the ostinato. More crappy analysis can be found in the repeat section of this video!
    This is part of my Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers - Re-scored project, otherwise known as PMD: ExR. It's where I attempt to re-arrange all of the music in the Explorers games (and a few extra) in mostly chronological order! I'm playing EoS through an emulator blind, so no spoils please!

    I love how this one pushes and pulls the tempo so well. Also rip gummi from that explosion trap at the end

  • @Linkchu
    @Linkchu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    btw, there is a tactic that you can set for your teammates to make them stop right where they are if you ever find yourself in that trap situation again haha

      i dont wanna keep turning those tactics on and off again because I'm lazy :3

      @@FiveNineSquared Then keep exploding. I died too many times before I remembered the tactics option....

    I enjoyed reading through that analysis and if I remember correctly this piece is one where arrangers often struggle with key signature and later on say they notated it incorrectly^^
    that ending reference is just cruel. you won't hear the first note in the playback (or at least I don't) so unless you actually watch the video, you wouldn't notice it xD

    • @FiveNineSquared
      @FiveNineSquared  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Huh, I didn't see many arrangements of this online though. The only other sheet music I could find for it was Bespin's (very old) one which was in Cb major (god help us all), and also switches between four key sigs as a result.
      Yeah for some reason the note just seems to be naturally muted like that because you hear it as an interval instead of two lines of music (I even turned up the velocity for it)

    The begining sounds pretty similar to the first notes in the track "Story" from Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer, what a weird coincidence

    • @FiveNineSquared
      @FiveNineSquared  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hm, they're both arpeggios (basically playing each note of a chord in sequence up or down), which is a pretty common technique in music. Not very coincidental, I'd say :p
      Though, the 'traditional japanese' vibes given off by both intros is undeniable.

      @@FiveNineSquared I must admit, I don't know much about music theory! So I'm pretty sure you are right. At first I tought that this part was also in the original track but not really, so it is your idea and not like a similar track from the same studio some years later.

    Wow, this arrangement seeps with effort!

    • @FiveNineSquared
      @FiveNineSquared  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you! Most of that effort was spent on tempo changes... and repeatedly changing the key signature until I felt at peace with it

    this arrangement is so good...doing my best to learn it and my left hand has never worked so hard in its life lol. great job as always

    • @tituscaesar6960
      @tituscaesar6960 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      question, though: for the last half of the left hand notes in measure 10, do you have recommended fingerings? i've been doing fine up to that point but properly transitioning through that group is proving difficult

    • @FiveNineSquared
      @FiveNineSquared  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! As for fingerings I'm really sorry but I didn't test most of this sheet out on piano, mainly cos I arrange way above my skill level... You could exploit the rallentando a bit and use the thumb on both C#s while using the pinky to hit the A and D#, though idk whether you've tried that already lol

    I love this. You did a wonderful job at making the interweaving arpeggios and harmonies manageable to play, and also making the playback fluctuate to sound natural :D

    • @FiveNineSquared
      @FiveNineSquared  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Most of the time I spent on this was on invisible tempo markings. I'll take your word for making the harmonies easier because I'm not at the standard to play any of my arrangements yet haha

    Treeshroud forest has always been one of my favorite dungeons in the game, and you do the theme justice with all of the tempo work. I like how grand things sound at measures like 11, however, I would have liked to see a moment in the song where the top voice of beat two of that segment was a C#5, more like the original. I also like the contrast between measures 14 and 15, and the decrescendo helps that fit into place nicely. Also isn't that bit at the ending (C#, A, G#) one of the game's motifs?
    Great work as always, and did you faint, or get the fuit gummi?

    • @FiveNineSquared
      @FiveNineSquared  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I think that C#5 is a bit hard to pull off (especially if i want an octave there) because it's mid-range, I'd have to reduce the left hand a bit to not overlap with the right. Those three notes are the 'darkness' leitmotif if you want to follow 8 Bit Music Theory's terminology.
      And I didn't faint but the fuit gummy died. not worth it :((((

    • @xXChickyChuXx
      @xXChickyChuXx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah, I forget that these are meant to be playable (I'm fairly new to piano so this doesn't come to mind often). Makes sense why it is like that then.
      Hope you find a better fuit gummy later on!

      The funny thing is that chord is the same one outlined at the start with the arpeggio, but hearing it all clustered like that makes it so much more spicy!

    Wow...your work is incredible, you deserve more likes and subscribers ! :o
    This is my 2nd favorite music among these you made, after the long Hidden Highland Arrangement !
    Hope the Temporal Tower will be a full piano arrangement like this, if I take a look at the released musics, Temporal Tower will be released soon, maybe in the year, no ? :o
    Anyway, you make the best piano arrangement of this game I ever listened to, good luck for your work and have a great day !! ^^

    • @FiveNineSquared

      Thank you very much!!
      I think I might arrange for an ensemble instead of just piano for temporal tower? I'm not really sure right now lol
      I'm also not sure when I'll get to it. Even though it's 3 tracks away, if you're unaware I'm gonna have to get back to serving the military in a few weeks, so it might not even be done this year... but definitely in the next year, it's a possibility.

      @@FiveNineSquared Okay ! Take your time ! ^^
      Maybe you can make a poll if you don't have an idea about the instruments you will use in Temporal Tower, when you think you will start it ? ^^
      Actually, the goal I want to reach at piano is to play full Hidden Land, and maybe Temporal Tower, haha !

      A poll might be a nice idea. Though idk if I can give enough ideas for options in the poll haha
      Good luck! I'm really grateful that you've enjoyed these arrangements enough to learn them, to the point of setting them as goals!

      No problem! That video's one of Bespin's older sheets, but he's definitely gotten way better since then.
