@@prowlandsasuke Yes. It’s part of the reason. Eden says this “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. Just trust that it had a lot to do with you. Thank you.”
Eden knows that Catherine is talented enough and capable of being a rich and famous fashion designer, and made the choice to keep Catherine out of that career path. The feels a little messed up. That's like having Gordon Ramsay work as an anonymous cook as some average restaurant and preventing him from being anything more. I also think it would have been better if Eden was still successful, but empty inside. That would have made Eden's choice strong, instead of making it seem like "I don't want to be poor. If I can't stay rich the current way, I'll do it with this new guaranteed way."
Every year I watch this and Barbie in the Nutcracker. I watched them both this morning. My fiancée asked “what do you wanna watch?” And I go “what I wanna watch every year…”
I don't think it was Edan seeing herself poor that really changed her. I think there were two key elements to it 1) Edan faced everything with anger because that's what Aunt Marie did. She was upset that Catherine didn't come watch her perform because Catherine being here helps her feel more confident in herself. So when Catherine wasn't there, Edan's response was to yell at her about crumpets because that's the only way she knows to handle the situation. And Catherine understands what's happening and tried to apologize for not coming upstairs and tells Edan she would have but she didn't have time that day, but Edan refuses to open up to Catherine about it and just keeps yelling. But when Future Edan loses all her money she isn't even angry. She's just accepted defeat. And we can see present Edan viewing Future Edan almost like a different person from herself and start to feel a little bit of empathy for other people via the baby steps of feeling it for herself. 2) Edan saw how she broke Catherine. Catherine was always the one stable source of love in her life. Catherine was this seemingly perfect person that always stood by her showing her unconditional love even when Edan was yelling at her to vent her own frustrations because she didn't know how else to handle them. But then Catherine got fired, and lost Edan. The orphanage closed down and she lost the kids. And she was broken. She devoted her life to helping others and all it did was hurt her. She couldn't even help them. So she took up Edan's philosophy. She became majorly success but also the same horrible, mean, emotionally struggling person that Edan was. And Edan sees that she did to Catherine what Aunt Marie did to her. She not only suddenly sees her own behavior from an outsiders perspective and understands what Aunt Marie was trying to say earlier in the movie about how her actions had hurt Edan (since Edan had refused to believe in the beginning that Aunt Marie's teachings had affected her negatively, both in reference to the wellbeing of those around her AND the wellbeing of herself), but she also feels EMPATHY for Catherine. She sees that she hurt the most important person in her life. Primarily, I think it's seeing how she broke Catherine that really made Edan change. That she didn't want to hurt Catherine, and she finally had the clarity to see that she WAS hurting Catherine. Edan connects to her own emotions and the emotions of others for the first time and sees that her deep focus on herself caused her to project her frustrations on everyone else because she can't see things from their perspective. She suddenly realizes how her actions hurt them, just as she realized that Aunt Marie's actions hurt her. She changes for Catherine. And seeing how Catherine was hurting after becoming like Edan also made Edan realize how much she herself was hurting and suddenly being able to clearly see how she was processing her emotions and that it wasn't healthy. That it hurt her and those around her. Also, as a little extra thing, I don't think she had an appreciation for her other performers in her shows. But she lost all her money because after she fired them, she couldn't find good replacements and all the new replacements (like the hypnotist and the dogs) ruined her shows and made people stop coming to see her. So after seeing her future she finally had an appreciation for her other performers and wants to treat them better. And I think Edan showing she still had the snow globe as a "gift" to Catherine was meant to be Edan's way of telling Catherine that even though she was treating Catherine badly and it wasnt right, that she had never stopped loving her. That she still deeply cared about Catherine the whole time even if she was so focused on herself and taking everything out on Catherine, because she held onto that childhood gift from Catherine that made Catherine think of her. Kind of as a way of apologizing to her. And she said that she would put it on display to be a constant reminder of what she learned that night so she will remain a kind and empathetic person, and be able to teach her future children the same (probably to break the cycle of abuse from Aunt Marie).
You phrased everything exactly how I always interpreted it as! Being able to perfectly understand aunt Marie and Eden’s abusive actions that come into play is *such* a big part of this movies integrity. It’s such a beautifully subtle, but extremely grown up message for young girls to learn, and it unfortunately is usually dismissed by most critics simply because it’s a “direct to dvd 2008 barbie movie”. This one is definitely the Butterfly Effect and Actions have Consequences of all the Barbie movies. The fact that Mattel gave the stamp of approval to adapt “A Christmas Carol” to begin with is utterly incredible to me.
@@randomusername429 Yep and when Eden is visiting Future Catherine and sees her acting like she was, she said “I don’t understand. She doesn’t sound like Catherine at all. I think part of the reason why Edan looks different from Barbie is because she is meant to be Barbie's ancestor like the end of the movie implied. So I think they wanted to visually make them two separate people so could have them existing in the same universe together, just in two different times. Also since the story takes place in England like the original Christmas Carol they may have thought it would be weird if the regular Barbie design suddenly had a British accent instead of her standard American one. But I agree with you that them not wanting Barbie to actually be Scrooge was probably part of it too. Also apparently Edan's design is meant to be based on the original 1959 Barbie doll. And considering this movie was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Holiday Barbie collector line (hence why Barbie is dressed like the 2008 Holiday doll in the movie) they may also have wanted to pay homage to Barbie history.
@@randomusername429 That’s an interesting theory. And yeah, the snow globe is hinted to be the same one Catherine gave Eden who said at the end of the movie she would one day pass it down through generations in her lifetime
the most interesting thing about this movie is the relationship between the scrooge character (Eden) and the Bob Cratchit character (Katherine) in the book they're really only colleagues, and in the future, Scrooge's consequence on Bob Cratchit i the death of Tiny Tim, but in Barbie A Christmas Carol, Eden and Katherine are given a whole backstory, and most interestingly, Eden effects Katherine her personality. The movie shows us that the real consequence of being a bad person, is shaping others into bad people through your actions. I just thing that this was an extremely good message, especially for a modern audience and I'm surprize Barbie a Christmas Carol hit that deep
@JosephRewa Also Marie who is based on the Marley character is her aunt which makes way more sense for her to warn her about the path she’s headed towards if she continues her ways and why she cares about that

The holiday Barbies are so beautiful in general, but this one is especially so! I have the collector doll for this movie, and she's still so stunning more than a decade later! The drop dead gorgeous silver gown was made even more gorgeous and given more detail for the doll✨✨✨ version✨
I think the reason this is unironically one of the better takes on the Christmas Carol story is that they took the same basic frame of the story, but they did something different with it that would relate better to little girls rather than just rehashing the same exact story the same exact way that everyone else has been doing a million times over. My personal favorite take on A Christmas Carol is still the Muppet version, but I would still gladly watch this one every Christmas and not feel like I'm being forced to watch it because nothing else is on. Also, I like how this story gives her a chance to live her life after changing because Eden is so much younger than Scrooge. I always thought the implication of Scrooge only having maybe about a year left to live as a changed man was tragic since he missed out on so much.
the nutcracker is a Christmas movie but it’s not ALL about Christmas it’s more like the setting, whereas this one is entirely reliant on it being christmas…like i could see the nutcracker taking place at any other time of year and it would be the same story, like it could be Clara’s aunt just giving her a nutcracker coz she came back from a trip lol
Haven't even watched the video but you're so right!! This movie should be considered a Christmas Classic. Also I love how it differs from other Barbie movies in making the main character unlikable on purpose
Bro you answered your own question. Maybe Eden was Barbie’s great great great grandma and she did pass the snow globe on for generations. And THATS what they look so similar. Not because the main Barbie character always looks like that haha.
It’s probably both because in the Amazon interview “Barbie” says she plays a character named Eden, so it’s def supposed to be Barbie playing her. Plus, Eden is probably related to her even though in the movie Barbie is like “idk if we are related”
Eden knows that Catherine is talented enough and capable of being a rich and famous fashion designer, and made the choice to keep Catherine out of that career path. This feels a little messed up. That's like having Gordon Ramsay work as an anonymous cook at some average restaurant and preventing him from being anything more. This adaptation of the story is *SO* over looked by other reviewers/critics simply because it’s a “2008 Barbie direct to dvd”. Therefore it must mean it’s somehow the inferior version… 😔🙄 Barbie, like many of her adaptations, is what introduced me to the story. And even at seven years old at the time this dvd released, I quickly noticed how it was actually quite grown up within its subtle messages and meanings compared to other Barbie movies; both past and future. There’s not a single piece of Barbie media quite like this one. Another thing to note is how they were also able to dive into its own unique interpretation of the tale. Aunt Marie and Eden’s emotionally abusive (potentially physical?) dynamic and how that can negatively influence the child and cause a huge case of continuing the cycle once they grow up is a rarely a concept explored in family/children’s media. Especially considering the fact that it’s BARBIE telling the story - something that’ll most likely never happen with today’s Mattel. Wow, honestly kudos to the writers for finding that balance between “make it lighthearted and fun since it’s still Barbie” and also as respectful to the original source material by keeping darker elements while *ALSO* making them original and not simply it an exact copy-and-paste of Scrooge’s story.
@@LaBellesGrace It’s more hinted verbal too because Eden said that Marie screamed for awhile at her and Catherine’s family after she found out Eden was missing
This is one of the most UNDERRATED BARBIE MOVIE, I really love this movie so much. Not to mention, the 2008 Holiday Barbie design is based on the looks of Barbie on this film as part of the 20th anniversary of Holiday Barbies which started on 1988. I just got her and she's so pretty 😍
You need to play Infinity Nikki. It's an adventure game where you collect different outfits, and some of the outfits have different abilities. They look like Barbie princess outfits! I am obsessed.
I feel like Eden changed because she didn’t want her friend to turn out like her + the orphanage closing down because Catharine wasn’t there to help cause Eden fired her. But I understand that with the camera work, it seemed more like she just didn’t want to be poor😭
@@pixel_cherry I agree. She even tried to tell Catherine that she’s better than the way she’s acting and not to make the same mistakes. In that future, Eden probably asked the spirits to help Catherine
She’s so funny like she throws Eden’s words back at her when she starts changing after seeing the orphans and how they interacted with Catherine. Like, sure Christmas Past reminded Eden of how much she was acting like her aunt and helped remember why she became a singer in the first place. But it was Christmas Present who showed Eden about being kind to others and Christmas Future warned Eden what was going to happen if she continued her ways
First off, this was my first and one of my most favorite Barbie movies EVER, ever since I was a little girl in 2008/2009 (I'm born in 2004). And second, it's pretty emotionally maturity for a kids movie and isn't dumbed down where it's talking towards the kids in the audience, but just giving them not only a good story, but also teaching them about the different people that exist and letting them THINK ON THEIR OWN BECAUSE THEY HAVE BRAINS THAT THEY CAN USE AND THE MOVIES KNOWS THAT THEY'RE SMART!!!! Otherwise, I'm always gonna love this version of Christmas Carol, not just cause it's girly, but just cause it's fun to see a person learn from their mistakes and try to do better. :3 Plus, I kinda thought that Eden and Tammy were somehow old generation sisters that were somehow ancestors to our current new generation pair, Barbie and Kelly. And also we see Kelly (or Barbie I think) having the same green eyes as Eden and Tammy having the same face shape as Kelly, sooooooooo~
It’s likely Eden could be their ancestor because of the snow globe. I do wish we could have seen other characters that looked like Barbie’s friends, but Diamond Castle shows us the two stones Liana and Alexa found at the beginning of the movie in the opening sequence of the movie, hinting that they were handed down by generations or similar
i think the different voice actors for singing vs talking happen w regular barbie movies too! in princess and the pauper erica and anneliese had different singing voice actors while kelly sheridan voiced both of them
Your commentary on this movie brought back so much nostalgia for me that Barbie a Christmas carol has now been placed into my top 4 movies on letterboxd. Thank you for your service.
Barbie in a Christmas Carol and Barbie as Eden Starling is my all time favorite. Its just refreshing to me to see Barbie act so full of herself, arrogant and bossy. I get that this is their version of the classic Christmas Carol, but still I love her here ❤❤

Barbie playing a grouchy character gagged me as a kid. Complex characters are what the modern barbie franchise is missing.
I loved this movie. Especially "evil barbie"
You need to play Infinity Nikki. It's an adventure game where you collect different outfits, and some of the outfits have different abilities. They look like Barbie princess outfits! I am obsessed.
And it also has an interesting story and characters
I feel like Eden changed because she didn’t want her friend to turn out like her + the orphanage closing down because Catharine wasn’t there to help cause Eden fired her. But I understand that with the camera work, it seemed more like she just didn’t want to be poor😭
@@pixel_cherry I agree. She even tried to tell Catherine that she’s better than the way she’s acting and not to make the same mistakes. In that future, Eden probably asked the spirits to help Catherine
Ghost of Christmas present is the kind of plus size rep we deserve. Absolute queen energy.
She’s so funny like she throws Eden’s words back at her when she starts changing after seeing the orphans and how they interacted with Catherine. Like, sure Christmas Past reminded Eden of how much she was acting like her aunt and helped remember why she became a singer in the first place. But it was Christmas Present who showed Eden about being kind to others and Christmas Future warned Eden what was going to happen if she continued her ways
the cuts to you tap dancing and spinning on your stomach is killing meeeee 😭😭
Ever since I saw a pink Christmas tree for the first time in the movie Annabelle's Wish, I've always wanted a pink Christmas tree.
Plus, I kinda thought that Eden and Tammy were somehow old generation sisters that were somehow ancestors to our current new generation pair, Barbie and Kelly.
This is hands down my favourite Christmas film and the nostalgia is the cherry on too
finally a barbie review that actually likes barbie
MERRY CHRYSLER JORDY
loving the home video
Merreh crisIS
MERRY (late) XMAS MAC
i think the different voice actors for singing vs talking happen w regular barbie movies too! in princess and the pauper erica and anneliese had different singing voice actors while kelly sheridan voiced both of them
That's actually not Cathrine's mom, that's Nell, who you learn is Catherine's older sister from the Past scene. Just FYI! 😋
Your commentary on this movie brought back so much nostalgia for me that Barbie a Christmas carol has now been placed into my top 4 movies on letterboxd. Thank you for your service.
I'm on a Barbie nostalgia watch. Im watching so many of the older movies. I love them even if they are weird at times 😄
2:57 and this is why she was replaced Mattel said NO DIVA
Barbie in a Christmas Carol and Barbie as Eden Starling is my all time favorite. Its just refreshing to me to see Barbie act so full of herself, arrogant and bossy. I get that this is their version of the classic Christmas Carol, but still I love her here ❤❤
I'm actually revisiting this movie and I love it even more now cause when you're a child you can't really appreciate the whole movie
This is in my top 5 fr but Barbie Island Princess will forever be my favorite
oh this movie is ICONIC
I’m glad you could finally release this video, it took a while but the end product was worth it! The Barbie Christmas Carol is clearly superior to any other Christmas film ever made. You’re not wrong about that!! Simply for starring the queen that is Eden Starling aka my favorite Barbie character ever made. A real diva. And if you’re not sick anymore that’s even better. Have the merriest of merry Christmases, Jordy! I love ya, queen. 🎄💕
This was a great review, i needed the reminder to be kind and care for others because some selfosh people in my life were doing their best to turn me into evil Catherine lol
6:46 help that animation looks straight outta the sims
Early Barbie movies are so sims 2 coded its crazy
Thank you for this xmas gift 💅
If I'm ever not excited by a sparkly gown, you gotta call someone. Great vid!💕
MY SISTER AND I WAS OBSESSED WITH THIS MOVIE!!! WISH WE COULD'VE REWATCHED IT THIS YEAR, BUT SADLY NO TIME 😥
me and the girls when we find new barbie movie react video from jordy under the christmas tree
This movie is on the TOP of my annual Christmas movie list
lol 2008 was my favourite year too because I was a child obsessed with emo bands and MySpace culture, I had no idea about the Recession either 😂😅
I was wondering when you’d take on this movie, your retelling was so fun and cozy! 🩷I absolutely love Barbie in a Christmas Carol, this, alongside Barbie Diaries, has shaped me into the pink-interior-loving, charm-bracelet-obsessed woman I am today. I watch it every year. 🎀
5:30« They put on too much butter! It’s pooling! Poooling Katherine😢 » will always be one of the funniest quotes to me from this movie for some reason.
P.S: I know I’m late, but here’s a message for everyone to have a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
The best Christmas gift I received this year! Merry Christmas!!
Best present from queen jordy, MERRY XMASS QUEEN

This has been my favorite Christmas movie since I was little. LOVE THIS!
One crazy detail, during the tomato throwing scene Catherine's pendent on her necklace is backwards, its literally a blooper that was animated into the movie.
Omg I’m so glad that you reacted to this !!!
Holy crap. I was just trying to remember if barbie christmas carol movie was actually a thing or if I just made it up in my head somehow. I've just unlocked some old ass childhood memories.
I remember one time when I watched this movie, I rewatched We wish you a merry Christmas over and over again, it was the one of the most magical experiences I’ve had watching a movie,
Have a merry Christmas, and God bless!
honestly katherine was so pretty! she should have been the new Barbie. i wonder if they ever made any dolls for this movie. (another great video jordy!!! Merry Christmas!)
I remember exactly where I was when I saw this masterpiece for the first time
I get so excited for your Barbie reviews ❤
I love watching your reviews of these movies! I watched them endlessly as a little girl and it was so exciting to be able to share them with my daughter, and now that she is older, we watch your videos together and laugh so much! 💖 Barbie movies used to bring us together, now Jordy brings us together! 💕

YESSSS I HAVE THIS MOVIEE, PARTS OF IT KINDA FREAKED ME OUTTT
I love the Christmas Carol story (especially with the current political climate)! My favorite adaptation right now is the Muppets one; but I would love to check out other adaptations. As I’m commenting, Christmas is over, so if I don’t check out the Barbie adaptation within these next few days, I’ll make sure to watch next year!
I love "Barbie in a christmas carol"! 🎅💖🎁🎄
THE CLIPS OF YOU DANCING AT 5 AHHAAHWHHA

thank you so much for covering this masterpiece! it's honestly one of my favorite barbie movies and my sister and i watch it every year for christmas!! also chuzzlewit is an icon i love how cunty he is lol
last christmas when people were asking what movie to put on for the kids i had to just sit in silence while everyone was saying different versions of christmas carol because internally i was just "THE BARBIE VERSION !!!!!! 🙏PLEEEEASE orz"
Oh I love Barbie in the Nutcracker. I borrowed it from my friend back when my parents got us a new VCR. Oh I hate how that dates me…
MERRY CHRISTMAS BESTIEEEEE
THIS IS LITERALLY MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER I LOVE CHUZZY I HAVE THE EDEN AND 3 SPIRITS DOLLS AND 2008 HOLIDAY BARBIE WHO WAS IN THE MOVIE
Always love your videos! Love you! Merry Christmas!
Fun fact: Chuzzlewit the cat is named after a character from another Charles Dickens' book "The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit".
We’d all benefit from a night filled with ghosts convincing us of our deepest issues and communication problems, but we can all learn from the story of the girl it happened to much easier. I hope Kelly got the message in the end! Barbie was so real for giving her a Christmas Carol story to get her to stop being selfish and just go to the event lol
@@ryranwho She did and even asked if she could give some allowance to donate for the donations to the hospital
