I think that's how I feel about all barbie movies and the general public: They will never understand how awesome it was because they weren't there.
I really loved how this film played with light. A lot of the edges of character models weren't very crisp, but blurring it with the light was successful in making it feel dreamy, almost lulling. They even took the time to put in the shadows and really bring depth to the more dim scenes. And as for the brighter scenes, they just put in so much color! especially when they dappled the green hill sides with flowers - they didn't just use a variety of pinks, practically every patch is a condensed pastel rainbow of flowers. And at the very end when we see the castle is healed, they put in a rainbow fade all around the edge of the screen, which made the landscape feel very intense for a moment. This film is honestly one of the most gorgeous animated films to come out of the early 2000's.

I was trying to remember if I had seen this specific movie before and was waiting til the faux castle trap was mentioned and while it's not looking exactly the way i rememberred it from when I was younger I'm now pretty sure old me has seen this film! Barbie movies were my chilldhood. I'm glad people still talk about them. Edit: Yep! I have seen this! I for some reason remembered Clara encountering the Rat guards in the castle to have been inside the trap somehow but that was ofc not the case. Some vague memories were just getting mixed up! I'm actually really glad because it feels so cool to have this be my childhood.
i got this video as a special edition and it came with a locket necklace and i have no idea where it is or what i’ve done with it but i swear ON MY LIFE that it exists !!!!!! absolutely adored this film as a child, this video is so real🥲🥲🥲
dawg i haven't seen this movie in 15 years, but it's my fav barbie movie and also... since then, i've loved rocky horror & other tim curry films. the way i SCREAMED when the mouse king started speaking on his throne & i was like "IS THAT TIM CURRY???" and immediately was validated... incredible. this film is oscar worthy just for the presence of tim curry. thank you. god bless.
so this is why everytime there are talk about Nutcracker movie, so many mention this version. I guess i underestimate this movie popularity because this is a barbie retelling of classic stories. it is interesting that this becomes almost a definitive version of Nutcracker movie. Also why the ballet is Russian, the story is written by German author amd set in Nuremberg, Germany.
Kelly Sheridan as Barbie/Clara Kirby Morrow as The Nutcracker/Prince Eric Tim Curry as The Mouse King Peter Kelamis as Pimm the Bat Christopher Gaze as Major Mint Ian James Corlett as Captain Candy Chantal Strand as Kelly Kathleen Barr as Aunt Elizabeth Drosselmayer/Owl French Tickner as Grandfather Drosselmayer Alex Doduk as Tommy Britt McKillip as Peppermint Girl Danny McKinnon as Gingerbread boy Shona Gailbraith as Fairies RiP Kirby Morrow
I know this is going to put a huge damper on the video, but the voice actor of the nutcracker kirby morrow tragically passed away in 2020 due to alcohol abuse, which is very sad in hindsight because he did also voice cole in the Lego Ninjago which is absolutely my favorite show in the world rip Kirby 😢❤
I treasure this movie even more after Kirby Morrow’s passing… He played one of my favorite characters in Ninjago AND The Nutcracker himself! I loved this movie before, but after Kirby passed a few years ago I now TREASURE it because of him ❤️🖤
This movie set my brain chemistry as a kid. I watched it on repeat for years on vhs... today i find my work has influence behind it and it was completely unintentional, but its absolutely there. Also I am so gay for Eric... The Nutcracker Eric, not the human one. And high agree. Captain Candy and Major Mint are just funny lil husbands to me. I adore this movie 😭
BRO NO WAY I have a very vivid memory of this movie and remember pretty much only a few details but I could tell I remember watching it once and only once lol
See I was always under the impression that Barbie is or was the headliner for a prestigious Ballet company whenever they do a production of The Nutcracker and The Mouse King. This is why she's constructed this elaborate story about Clara, the character she's supposed to play, and Eric. She teaches Ballet to children as a side hustle or she'd opened her own studio at some point. That's also why she looks like Clara, it's because she kinda sorta is Clara. Loved this one as a kid, thanks for actually doing a video about it. Love that they motion captured the dancers and had choreographies. I like the night gown, but I don't think Mattel ever made that look into a doll.
Wonderful review, totally agree this is such a underrated Barbie movie shame people don't seem rate it as one of the best because I think it is. For the first ever Barbie movie this one nailed the Nutcracker story and the soundtrack. Unpopular opinion I enjoy this movie even more than Princess and The Pauper!
the nutcracker version of the prince was hotter than the human version, my younger self was obsessed

This movie is so ingrained in my brain from my sisters watching it on repeat that when I hear tchaikovsky I think of Barbie
HAHHAHHAHA they had TASTE
i got this video as a special edition and it came with a locket necklace and i have no idea where it is or what i’ve done with it but i swear ON MY LIFE that it exists !!!!!! absolutely adored this film as a child, this video is so real🥲🥲🥲
OMG locket necklace?!?!?1 THAT IS INCREDIBLE
dawg i haven't seen this movie in 15 years, but it's my fav barbie movie and also... since then, i've loved rocky horror & other tim curry films. the way i SCREAMED when the mouse king started speaking on his throne & i was like "IS THAT TIM CURRY???" and immediately was validated... incredible. this film is oscar worthy just for the presence of tim curry. thank you. god bless.
Literally my favorite Barbie movie, like I LOVED watching it growing up and I'm going to rewatch this december
YESSSSSS
The fan cam of major mint had me dead.
so this is why everytime there are talk about Nutcracker movie, so many mention this version. I guess i underestimate this movie popularity because this is a barbie retelling of classic stories. it is interesting that this becomes almost a definitive version of Nutcracker movie. Also why the ballet is Russian, the story is written by German author amd set in Nuremberg, Germany.
I watched this movie so much that the video rental store near my house gave it to me lol I still have the vhs 💕
thats so CUTE OMG

Wait, Kirby Morrow was the Nutcracker?
@@rowenaloh6653 Yep
@@bromodragone8405 Did you know that Kirby Morrow was also Cole from Lego Ninjago?
I know this is going to put a huge damper on the video, but the voice actor of the nutcracker kirby morrow tragically passed away in 2020 due to alcohol abuse, which is very sad in hindsight because he did also voice cole in the Lego Ninjago which is absolutely my favorite show in the world rip Kirby 😢❤
how did i just realize this woman only has three videos 😵💫 anyways i love them all so post more 🤭🤭
im on it!! thank you 🫶🫶
I treasure this movie even more after Kirby Morrow’s passing… He played one of my favorite characters in Ninjago AND The Nutcracker himself!
Not you still having the Barbie VHS!! Now that’s a flex! 🫡
BRO NO WAY
I have a very vivid memory of this movie and remember pretty much only a few details but I could tell I remember watching it once and only once lol

Fun Fact: Bats actually have good eyesight! They can actually see in pitch black but cannot see in sharp colorful vision humans have.
"Captain Candĕůæ!!!!"
This lives in my brain like a parasite
Why do the people look like sims characters?
i swear they used a video game engine to make this movie lolol

SAMEEE you have TASTE
