WHAT A WOMAN!! I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't know about her until now. And to be NINETY-THREE and STILL LOOKING AND SOUNDING THAT FABULOUS!! WOW.....talk about an INSPIRATION!! Blessings on her forever!!!
Marilyn is a national treasure. Everyone should go see her if possible. Marilyn's warm, generous, kind, smart and humorous demeanor is not just a showbiz act - she's the real deal!
Marilyn did Hello Dolly in the summer months of 1984 in Galveston. The show was in an outdoor amphitheater on the beach. Imagine wearing the corsets, heavy costumes & thrilly hats, while singing and dancing in the Galveston heat and humidity. It was brutal. Yet, she wasn’t phased. She gave 100% every night. She was also very generous with us youngsters in the chorus.
What a wonderful woman and singer she is! Her interpretive skills delivering a song are a 10+ . She's got more talent in her left thumb than most have in their entire body. 🧡
Marilyn Maye used to live down the street from me back in the 1960s, in a very modest home in Overland Park, KS. As kids, we didn’t care about her voice, she had the reputation for giving out great candy on Halloween.
Fantastic story ! Can't believe her age. She has so much energy n passion for entertaing. Kudos to her. Many many more years. Looking forward to ur next video.
She was also on Johnny Carson something like 40 times. He obviously had an affinity for her and her talent. I've only had the pleasure of seeing her once in person about 15 years ago. Not sure what words there are beyond "national treasure", which is used a lot. I'm still amazed she has a voice, unlike many of the rockers I have seen in the past 10 or 20 years. No beat box needed here. Love you Marilyn!
I was performing in the same town as Ms Maye for a few years. In a magical gay land called Provincetown. Unfortunately both shows were always at 7 pm and every day overlapped. Each year I felt crushed. I got to meet her and pose for pictures but that isn't quite the same. Then I got to see her 90th birthday show at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach. I splurged on the higher end seats. Honestly one of the best shows I've ever seen.
(born April 10, 1928) is an American jazz singer, cabaret singer, and musical theater actress. She began her career as a young child, performing in Kansas in concerts and on the radio. After graduating from high school, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she drew the attention of Steve Allen, performing first on and then with Johnny Carson. She is the most frequently heard singer on the program, having appeared 76 times. She recorded for RCA Victor during the 1960s, after which she has had a successful career as a cabaret singer. Ella Fitzgerald referred to Maye as "the greatest white female singer in the world."
If you like terrific interpretations of Broadway tunes and old standards, buy some of her CDs. She made some great ones, especially during the 60s (the decade, not her age LOL).
Just love Marilyn Maye and saw her for the second time last night in PTown at Town Hall with the fabulous Daniel Glass on the drums. She’s as good as ever and such an inspiration. ❤
I'm going to see her at the jazz/cabaret club--54 Below--in May 2023. I am going not just because I love her voice--but she inspires me (since I will be working as long as I live.....) Also, I love her song selection.
Marilyn has - HAS - the very best voice on the planet. My mother used to think no one could top Rosemary Clooney, whom I adored, until I turned her on to Marilyn. Now she raves about her. She is simply a delight, in every way imaginable.
I don't care what anyone says, Marilyn Maye can run rings around these "singers" today!!! Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber, TAKE EFFIN' NOTES!!!!!

Yikes! How come I haven't heard of Marilyn Maye?! Thanks Sunday Morning for filling the gap in my musical education!
I live in Kansas City and have seen her perform several times. Also got to meet her. Wonderful lady!
My parents took me to see her perform in Kansas City when I was in college. She was wonderful then and wonderful now!
I had the privilege of being in Heartland Men Chorus when Marilyn preformed with us a few years ago. Such a warm kind soul
May she never, ever retire! Go Marilyn!!🎶👏❣
She sounds spectacular for a 93 year old singer! She’ll be around long after we’ve all departed!😉🙏😝😭🤗
She is often in Palm Springs, CA performing 2-3 times per year. I was able to see her once and before I even knew who she was. She really is amazing!
Yes!!!. Keep on living your best life.
Never heard of her. She looks great ! Bless her. 💜
Somehow me neither. Singing keeps you young apparently.
Those 90° kicks at nearly 90 we're fabulous, and the 120° kicks of today were breathtaking!!!
Definitely one of the greatest jazz singers. Ella called her “the greatest while female singer in the word”.

Sounds GREAT!! ACTIVE.
Retirement is a four letter word to the ones who absolutely love what they do. Keep doing what you do Marilyn!
This is a woman who has never given up on her dreams
What a sweetheart!! I want to sing like that! She should hang out with Betty White, both dynamos!
Nice to know there are still performers like Marilyn Maye out there doing their thing. It makes the world a better place.
She is a breath of fresh air. Bahaha, at 92. Wow, she is amazing.
Love what she says at the end that the word "retirement" doesn't exist in her vocabulary. A mindset like that is a big factor to longevity like hers.
Amen! So true! And inspiration to all!!

What an inspiration to want to kick up your feet and keep on living no matter how bad life gets today!!!
Marilyn Maye is truly an amazing phenomenon.

76 times.
She’s often like the female Tony Bennett, here. What incredible talent she has.
Everyone should see her in person! Her voice shakes the rafters.
Talent knows no age, and it has no expiration date.
She is 93 and has more energy than some younger performers put into their voice when they sing. Incredible!
Marilyn Maye was such a favorite of my Mom's. I love her too. A great talent and a great lady!!
God hold & keep this precious soul ♡♡♡
Maybe a duet with Tony Bennett could be arranged?! We've loved Marilyn at Lake Okoboji, Iowa for years. Thank you for the joy you bring.

This is a gift…thank you!

Wow- what a treasure she is!
Time to look up her performances on tv variety shows from the 1960s and 1970s.
Lots on TH-cam.
She was Johnny Carson's favorite singer.
I saw her perform in a small venue in Palm Springs a couple of years ago. Showmanship is in her blood.
Marilyn has - HAS - the very best voice on the planet. My mother used to think no one could top Rosemary Clooney, whom I adored, until I turned her on to Marilyn. Now she raves about her. She is simply a delight, in every way imaginable.

Lee’s outfit is all business on top, rock star on the bottom.
I don't care what anyone says, Marilyn Maye can run rings around these "singers" today!!! Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber, TAKE EFFIN' NOTES!!!!!
A Kansas City institution!
💕🤩💕
An American Treasure
She and Tony Bennett should get together!
I could see Aretha doing this if she was still alive at this age
She sings pretty good for twenty-three? That's so ridiculous it's just insulting ... to her.
Never heard of her.
Girts
I got banned 24 hours on Facebook sorry I can't post I have 10 hours left
Been there. The food is awful!
You were bad.
Except death
She's terrible...
You are a fool!
Hope you are kidding. This is a joke right?
I love how her eyes disappear when she smiles.
