  • Sega is a company I have an interesting history with, so how's about a retrospective going over my story with them? Why? Why not?? Enjoy!
Thank you, as always, to both Nio and Sol for the thumbnail! Love these guys, and you should commission them both! Nio for the art, and Sol for the graphic design!

All other footage was captured by yours truly! Lots of games I had to play, most of them good, but I had to suffer through Altered Beast. If only there was some way for you to help me feel better... oh! I got it! Like the video. Please. Seriously, please, it really helps me out...
Also nobody ever reads to the end of this, so shout outs to you for being the exception. As a reward, I'm pretty sure my next major video will be a review on the original Phantasy Star, so tune in for that! If I end up being a liar, sorry, I change my mind on what videos I wanna make all the time, it's nothing personal, I swear.

When I was but a small bean, and owner of a SNES as my current console... I was enamoured with a certain blue hedgehog, I collected the comics, had tapes for both cartoons, and of course I really wanted a Genesis of my own as well, which felt unrealistic,as the only child of a single mother. But one day, my mom explained about layaway and saving my allowance. So suddenly, I had a lot less candy and toys, by choice, and after several months, I had a Genesis of my own, complete with Sonic 2! While I would fall in and out with Sega's consoles, I always loved their games, and even now, I think they still publish some of the best games out there, Valkyria, Yakuza, even the recent Shining Resonance was a lot of fun!
I for one would love to see more videos on games from Sega both new and classic!

I can’t believe this video came out over a month ago and I didn’t even realize it. Consider that bell rung (something I don’t normally do for TH-cam channels!)
I was never a Sonic fan, but I did play a decent amount of Sonic Advance growing up. I mostly like the series for the character designs, especially Blaze and Cream. Blaze definitely needs more appearances, but Cream does too! She’s just so adorable. I do love the movies though, and I even watched Sonic Underground now and then as a kid.
I was about to include a strongly worded comment about how you didn’t talk about Yakuza before you mentioned that you were considering what all the fuss was about. For the love of God, please do! I only got into the series around the time of Kiwami 2’s release, but I stormed through the series from 0 to 5 plus Judgment in just a few months, and then 6 more recently. I’ve started Lost Judgment, but I haven’t gotten too far into it yet (I completely empathize with your remarks about burnout). I’d heard them being talked about back in the day as GTA set in Japan, but it’s really not at all. They’re very story-focused crime dramas set in a small but dense open world-esque city, with 0-6 centering around Kiryu, the kindest badass that ever existed. As a bonus, there’s traditionally a Sega arcade where you can play games like Outrun, Virtua Fighter, Fantasy Zone, and such. One of the games even has Sonic the Fighters. If you enjoy beat-‘em-ups, I think you’ll really dig the combat. I recommend starting from Yakuza 0, and then progressing through the series chronologically. You can also fit Judgment and then Lost Judgment in pretty much whenever you want, as the stories aren’t really related and don’t spoil any major events of the main series.

Really interesting hearing how the trends in their game design made such an impact and still have a lot of potential to this day. I know it's hard to mesh games with players these days with how broad the audiences are. Getting gamers to figure out a learning curve with how many games are vying for competition is much harder now, so they need to find ways to build up those critical skills fast, before players lose interest. I feel like fast replay/retry options are important, especially for players like me that want to get one challenge right before moving on to the next one. I hope they can keep going that in their games, and also I never knew the crossover racing game was so good. It looks polished and very creative with the transforming vehicles. :)
My whole journey with SEGA was just playing some Sonic Adventure at friend's houses, maybe a couple of the more arcade-y titles and Monkeyball, and then my friends got PSO on Gamecube and we played that, offline, multiplayer for YEARS... and then I found out you could play PSO2 on the JP servers and I played THAT for years, and then it came out on the Global market and I replayed THE ENTIRE GAME... and I'm still keeping an eye on it to this day. XD PSO is such a massive part of my life honestly and that's without even having played Universe. I'll very likely play Sonic Frontiers as my first owned entry in that series, since it looks really interesting, and moves back a bit toward that Adventure feel, but hopefully with more of the polish Adventure needed.
Also I watched a full LP of Yakuza 0, it's legit excellent. :D

This was a great video I've also started picking up some Sega games that I have been familiar with and ones I haven't tried so far I played the first Bayonetta and even though I sucked at it at first I still had fun with it and it made me want to buy the second one, so far other Sega games that I've been playing are Puyo Puyo, Yakuza, and even some niche ones like 7th Dragon. My 3 Sega kings are still Sonic, Monkey ball, and Persona but I still love what other Franchises this company has to offer

I have to say sega's by my second all-time favorite video game company after nihon falcom. I had to say like most Sega fans it's start out similar. I had Sonic Gems Collection as a kid but I mostly just played Sonic the fighters and Sonic R. My love of Sonic weirdly started with Sonic forces. Looking back at the games is not that great but as someone who is not good at skill based games and loves military base settings due to my love on military history it was perfect for me. After that I quickly began assessing over the comics, animations, and stuff fan creations. My love only grew as became curious and look up Sega and found their history very fascinating. I quickly became obsessed with the idea of the being a underdog, as the gently were marked or forgotten at the time. Thankfully sega. Much more respected now than he used to be. When Sega releases a new title I have the itch to buy it especially their military titles and RPGs. Please Sega make valkyria chronicles 5 and port/remake skys of Arcadea. Plus it's great to know I'm not the only relatively young person who's a fan of Sega, it sometimes feels like I'm the only person outside of Japan that isn't 40 that cares for this company.
