@@pradeepsen5780 I agree completely. I guess you are saying 1963-1969? The Beatles as a band name started in 1960, 2-3 years before they released their first breakthrough hits. Before 1960, they were a band but with 4 other band names, and not yet famous, but you are absolutely right, they were only working as a famous band for about six years! That's unbelievable! Around 30 #1 hits, 100's of brilliant songs, 13 great albums, 3 movies (they had little involvement with Yellow Submarine, the 4th movie), all in 6 years! The Let It Be album was released in 1970, and a couple of recording sessions occurred in early 1970, but without Lennon. [Wikipedia]

As I understand it, 'guru' can also mean, more specifically, one who brings us from darkness to light.
So you could also see the line as hailing that divine force that enables our minds and hearts to open to receive the illumination of higher truth. This Teacher or conveyor of our souls from one state to the next could be anyone or anything in the Universe or just something calling us from deep within our hearts.

John was my favourite Beatle .. but he certainly was no angel, let’s leave it at that. But his voice is second to none & his song writing can be cutting or soft & surreal.. I first heard the Beatles when I was 14.. I knew there was something different about a sound no one else had. I’m 74 now, & had tears listening to this song, it took me back to 1969/70 when I bought the record. Nice reaction, honest & heartfelt.

In John's own words: "I was lying next to my first wife in bed, you know, and I was irritated, and I was thinking. She must have been going on and on about something and she'd gone to sleep and I kept hearing these words over and over, flowing like an endless stream. I went downstairs and it turned into a sort of cosmic song rather than an irritated song, rather than a "Why are you always mouthing off at me?" [The words] were purely inspirational and were given to me as boom! I don't own it you know; it came through like that."

I an see this song reached you and it IS a beauty. I probably don't even get the full meaning 'cause I never even got around to trying to understand what the refrain is all about. But the imagery in the verses alone is extraordinary writing by Lennon. He has to be one of the greatest musical lyricists ever and to think how young he was at the time....... it was a long way from "I Want To Hold Your Hand" Beautiful reaction as always Ms.Sara : )
