      Yes, I was travelling with skins. The terrain dictated that they remain on.

    Was all the meat used or did you hunt for the trophy? Be honest, which of the both was the priority?

      Honestly I’m out there for the adventure of the hunt. We take all the meat, as required by law. I even made a rug out of this bison.

    Didn't they release wood bison in shageluk in 2014 and they said you can't hunt them for atleast 10 years

    Just out of curiosity...why so close?

    • @GregMcHalesWildYukon
      @GregMcHalesWildYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The terrain was rolling and I needed to push in. Bison often are not overly aware of their surroundings, as they don't need to be, and thus are vulnerable to close stalks. Often, with the bush and terrain, I need to get close. You can see my hunt from Season 1 where I was even closer.

  • @JohnShepherdMusic
    @JohnShepherdMusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Those old bulls are some of the original herd that were released into the wild in 2015. They were basically farm raised, have never been hunted in their life and you could probably walk right up to them without them spooking. A dubious claim to say you were one of the first to shoot one of the recently released Buffalo.

    • @GregMcHalesWildYukon
      @GregMcHalesWildYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Bison were reintroduced to Yukon in the late 1980s as part of a national program to recover endangered species." So actually they are not farm-raised by any stretch of the imagination. Have you hunted them here?

    Great show. What is the box on the skandic. Who supplies it?

    • @gregmchale7957
      @gregmchale7957 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is actually a military aviation box. I have had it for years, so not something you can get hold of I don't think. Maybe Army surplus shops. It does work great though.

      @@GregMcHalesWildYukon hunt permit is not a reason to not hunt. In 19th century there were many permits and bisons nearly died out. I would want to listen not to what hunters think about but what Ecological people think about. Hunter always will say "hunting is good"

      @@miltiades8822 Modern hunters are the reason these populations have made a comeback. There is a massive difference between the market hunting at the turn of the last century that almost wiped several species out, and modern sport hunters. Hunters contribute more money to conservation than any other group, and have founded several organizations specifically dedicated to conservation and habitat restoration initiatives. We contribute 10's of millions of dollars and hundereds of thousands of man hours every year to conservation efforts to keep these populations growing and keep our wild places wild. We're not trying to kill everything out there, we want to make sure there are still animals and wild places for our childrens children to enjoy. Hunting is far more sustainable and ethical than going to the grocery store and buying your meat off the shelf where you can pretend you're not responsible for how it got there...
