Just thinking out loud, I would guess, and maybe I'm way off base, that by rounding off the prop tips, it would allow decrease thrust, and the sharp tips cut the cone of water, whereas the rounded edges would allow water to sort of spill past what was that sharp knife edge. Like I said, just thinking out loud. That's where your idea of the prop dyno may help prove this out one way or another. Great Stuff Big B!
I've tested and proved that a slightly rounded tip has given better speed than a "stock prop. I've found that if the tip is rounded too much, it'll reduce speed..
@@TheAWallace1212 I started getting stress cracks on the bottom where it connects to the transom. So I stripped the entire inside of my hull and did a 2mil carbon/kevlar inlay. Then went back and added a TFL motor/esc and servo mount.
Gotcha. I’m still new to the advanced rc boat world. Had lots of cheapies. I’m not sure how to do the carbon reinforcement yet. Im sure I’ll learn tho.
Back in the day when we ran races with the same rigger and same prop week in week out, in rough weather we had to weight the hull to keep it from going over, but in super calm heats the hull would struggle to get up on plain and the throttle response could be very poor and cause engine stalling and over heating. rounding off the prop tip was a quick solution ,as it takes some load off the drive system , the price being loss of top end speed in most cases.( Get doc to hurry up with jet stepper plans ,as its a good winter project for us old boys, ) LOL, regards Paul B ,sorry signed in on wifes account again Doh.
Your modded prop looked good but you never know till you try it. I have a Chris Hoffman Octura Prop for my V2. I Can send you pics if you want. Looking forward to tomorrows testing
It’ll still be a good prop on lighter setup or higher kv I’d rounded tips only if next size down is too small there’s probably other reasons for doing it though I’d done it just to pick rpms up particularly on nitro
great video big b,as allways.im hoping that you or one of the boat gang could help me out .its probably a dumb question, lol.im doing a budget upgrade on my arrow,i bought a surpass rocket motor and 90amp esc,the esc has 6 cooling nipples and im not sure how to run the cooling, the motor and esc have separate cooling. Thanks in advanced,
I have one rounded ear prop for my blackjack42... 46/15 little bit cupped on the edge detongue and I've had my pb on it... it was 93kmh , but my electronics were hot! it was on 6s its kinda give and take with round props if you know what I mean however I'm still figuring out witch props is the best...
Great and informative video ! I like the idea of neatly arranging the wires with the clamp 👍 I’m not a big fan of round earing or detunging my props, however I have found that if-for example an octura x640 is to amp hungry and has to much lift for my application I will take an x642 and start with a slight bit of modification and will end up with something close to the x640 but more mild. I have whittled down my collection of octura props over the years. Back in the day they were to expensive to buy a great assortment of props 35-60$ each, so I just filed away (wearing a mask) to get what I want. Hey big be could you make use of an octura 2.1 pitch 37mm prop? I have never had a boat that suited that prop, maybe your new project will hookup with it. Let me know.
Thanks for the information very helpful... I've got a octura 3 blade (1740) that I've never found a boat that likes it. Lol. it's actually my favorite looking prop!!! 2137? Hmm. That may be a good rigger prop? Idk.
I'm no prop specialist. Thought they round ears for less chance cavitation and/or easyer flow from the water of the prop. Theoreticly the rounded was 1mm smaller, that should make a difference about -3km/h... I tried/have a brushless fan on esc, sprayed it with electronics protection spray, still works. Got wet few times already. Wanted to try that for extra cooling, and helps when lying still in water...
You whill burn the ESC on 8s whit TP and that modifi propeler I don't think if you bend a prop you whill have another pitch, you need to cut the ather part of the propeller on ABC props
At exactly 8:54 there is a hull buzz noise and the rpms decrease, then just before departure and impact? at exactly 8:55 it comes back, then Bam!. Maybe you passed over a school of fish, nicked one at 8:54 and and sliced the other at 8:55.

Ive gone crazy on my UL19, cant wait to see the route you go with it.
Same here! Cracked my sponson yesterday. Would like to see how to strengthen hull.

Can you show how you record your videos - do you use a Go pro and head band type camera mount ?

Thanks I may look into cupping the round ear prop? Gonna do some research thanks for the information

That sounds about right thanks for the info. Didn't really think about less cavitation
Extra fan on your electronics should help sure wouldn't hurt..
Awesome! What is the 50mm prop you were running ? I'd be happy with 75 lol

I just run her on 6 & 8s. Temps were warm but l was being cautious ⚠️. 79mph on 6s and 86 on 8s with a powerCut! Thanks brother for all the support
