I'm guessing this guy lives in the UK or somewhere where large predators aren't an issue because if I made food at my camp like that in my mountains, I would have bears all up in my business ASAP! lol I cook and eat 100 yards away from my camp.

I've camped in a similar way a few times and the best lesson I've learned is to get some moss smoldering and producing smoke, then place it under the logs around the spot you'll be sleeping in for a few hours before dark or while you're constructing the rest of the shelter. The smoke will drive away most insects & spiders near the surface of the fallen tree that would bother you while you sleep

i love the idea, but the bugs are still there, they just go where the smoke can't, and thank whatever giant came along to provide this warmth. if you go back the next year to the same spot, there will be little shrines and statues made in your honor, also keep an eye out for a pit of sacrifice as well, as that will, in most instances, become a thing.

Very cool, but you could never do that here in Australia. That log would be a paradise for snakes and spiders. It would protect you pretty well from the drop bears though.

Everytime I'm in a forest near my home town I thank god that the most dangerous animal I can run into is a squirrel 😂😂😂. I'm kidding, but I think here in northern Serbia we only have hornets to worry about and sometimes ticks can be annoying, we don't have any poisonous snakes or spiders wolves or bears in the north.

The shelter is pretty cool. Probably never have the knowledge or patience to do it but most the rest is hilarious. Packing meat in clay in a dbl wrapped container does nothing. Just should've seared it on the skillet. Throwing aluminum in the fire is toxic. Also put your hardest most dense veges in the fire first then add. Cool fort but the rest is childs play. 🤷♂️

@@aoszkar honestly I'm not sure cause I'm no expert by any means where I live in the hot south west that would be a terrible idea cause that's where most of all those critters like to be. In his case I'm not sure but he has a sweater so it might be cold enough that they ain't coming out

Clever use of natural facilities. However, especially for the slighty longer-term shelter, one should always cater for rain and surface-water run-off. This shelter would soon become unsustainable in the event of rain.

So in that backpack, you had a saw, skillet, fresh onion and fresh peppers, butter, sealed meat, cabbage, pear, tin foil, par paper, bottled water…. Not doubting you but maybe show your packing list before you head out is something people would like to see.

@@tyy_9123 Don't worry.......there was a fridge in his backpack ;-) Actually he took it cause of the butter but realized he had enough space to fit packed meat for the rest of his life out in the woods. Legends says......he is still there and just can't share it with us anymore because he simply forgot the batteries for his cam. Comes with a certain age....you know ;-)

It makes for nice hiding but anyone your hiding from would have heard that noise for miles. Me personally, I would NEVER make a bed next to an old downed tree. Spiders, mites, and ants will eat you alive. Ugh. I would rather carry a folding handsaw, cut down some poles and throw a camo tarp over the top and sleep on a fresh raised bed.
I thought the same, then again if you're worried about mites and spiders you probably shouldnt be bushcrafting.
im just now realizing he also put bark and dirt over the top, and all I can think now is how fucking annoying it would be to sleep in there with all that shit falling down as you make the smallest movement. no way you don't get that shit in your eyes.

Make sure to have bear spray in case a grizzly decides to hibernate in that spot. Bears know good places to sleep and shelter. Hakan might have to remain still underneath the bear for months. I advise him to keep a 3 + month supply of emergency food in his pockets in case Smokey the bear lives in these woods.
Maybe a black bear or a brown bear but definitely not a grizzly in that area. Plus bears tend to stay away from smoke and fire.
Bears don't sleep all day during hibernation that is a myth, you'd be a goner soon as a bear notices you period.

I wonder if you made a fire reflector, lined the ground with rocks all the way into your tree den from the fire if the rocks could have warmed enough to transfer the heat to you in your shelter. either that or just rotate stones throughout the night if the cold merited it.

I don't understand the purpose of that trap door... Under heavy rain, the waterproofing of the bark layer would be compromised by the lack of flow direction from not having a peak, but as a winter shelter this would be excellent, if the winter period is rain-free...
Watching this it motivates me to just move out and live free in the wilderness rent free, and just be homeless 😂
