Out of all the bootleg albums I bought - many years ago - this song was always my favorite. The imagery is fantastic and it has a raw, organic quality to it. Shows how good a developing writer Bruce was at the time. I do really like the new album version as well. They treated it very nicely. This version however, will always be the definitive one for me.
I had no idea it was this old, I think it's an amazing testament to his songwriting to think that THIS song never made the cut. Right? I'd give an arm to be able to write songs like this and Bruce has this sitting in his back catalogue, just waiting to be good enough to grace an album.
I heard this song on the new album and read it was an old one. I found this demo and it's amazing. Both are, but the emotion of this version is incredible.
I used to play and sin this song twenty years ago. I am amazed that he actually recorded a band version of it in 2019. The original is still best I think.
Bruce has wriiten an insane number of songs. i think this is the same version as i had on a bootleg years ago. there were so many bruce bootlegs, especially as he did so many shows that were live radio recordings. it meant they were great quality and in the long run it didn't cost him cos we all bought the studio stuff too. sadly not all my bootleg tapes have survived due to age but mainly not looked after like i should have but i've still got a few great ones with slightly different lyrics and arrangements, covers and of course rambling stories i could listen to all day.
Brother thank for introducing me to the Bruce I’ve not heard before and it’s amazing he wrote this at such a young age his mind and imagination made the most incredible songwriter and the performer that came to be is just pure magic he’s a phenom a legend a blessing and I am grateful for being witness to him bc there will never be anything like him again he’ll be enjoyed forever I’m amazed by him
@@ekimklaw I have three favorite people in my life now and I just showed my son what I’ve been listening too I’ve been playing Bruce for him for 17 years now and it’s cool to introduce him to what you have and I told him we got another 17 years of great listening lol I hope I get to take him to just one Bruce show you are appreciated brother I love your work and the effort you put into it feels like what Bruce puts into his shows you are fantastic at what you do I’m a fan
I bought a bootleg of these Hammond Demo sessions back in the mid-80's that has this version on it along with Song for Orphans which will also be on Letter to You and I think 8 other tracks. That demo tape is on my Top 10 list. I'm ambivalent about hearing it in his 70 year old voice - not sure Time Capsules are meant to be reinterpreted.
@@redbankross Yeah - I'm pleasantly surprised. They did a good job with it though I wish I had a time capsule to see how they would have arranged it for the full band back while they were recording Greetings.
John Hammond (the man of Columbia) thought Bruce was jew but when he starts to sing this one in his office as a real audition he had no doubts he was 100% catholic
@@lgx6559 Of course it is and that s why Hammond got no doubts he was catholic despite his jewish sounding name....only a catholic could have been that sarcastic about his own creed...

What do ya think now that it’s released. I think the arrangement with full band treatment and his vocal are excellent, highlight of the album.

What an awesome song. My first time hearing this. Thanks for this amazing share.
This is amazing
Wow! What talent to have been the songwriter in this one...Great song, great lyrics, great music....5 Stars Bruce!!!
Del disco nuovo mi piacciono solo le 3 canzone degli anni 70. Grazie per aver postato questa, è molto molto bella in questa versione piano e voce
je ne savais pas que l'origine de cette chanson était si ancienne, cette version est magnifique...
Love this!❤
Giovane Bruce! La voce e acerba ! Ma stupenda! Una canzone bellissima! 😌😌😍😍😘💘♥️💔💔💯💯
Parte del motivo per cui lo amiamo !! Grazie della visita.

I love this...
Me too. Can't wait for the 2020 version!
I love this version!! I have an old cassette labeled Laurel Canyon Demos. Is it the same as this MediaSound version? Sounds like the same recording.
Could have been a song by The Band.
Great! Hadn’t thought of that, but you are right!!

Well this song is quite sarcastic and clearly against the wealth and the power of Catholic Church
