This video will go down in recovery history in what not to do in recovery industry mistakes and dangerous situations everywhere 💯
Dustin, you were very wise to stand well back from the other two operators who, quite clearly, either have suicide wishes or are NOT the sharpest tools on the work bench.
Justin, sounds like your bosses need you around to keep them out of trouble!
That's hectic Dustin! Well done. Case of to many Chiefs and not enough Indians (No cultural offense implied or intended)
Too many cooks in the kitchen.
Leaning on a cable under tension........ Standing between multiple cables under tension.
That shit will take your head off, and not a damn thing will stop it.
Dustin, every time you work with Donnie he doesn't seem to listen to you or anybody! He should not be running a truck! He's too dangerous!!!!
Mike, I am sorry but I own the company and when we have these type of scenes and recoveries it is ultimately my decision on how they are done. There is a lot of different ways you can do things but in the end if things go wrong they fall on me. Nobody else. I have been around this business since I was a baby and have as much heavy duty recovery training as anyone in the industry. You may not like how I do things but I can say in all the years we have been doing these recoveries that nobody has got hurt and haven't cause any additional damages.
Not to mention, we spend half as much time tying the roadways up as other companies in the area. In the end, I pay all the company bills and make sure my drivers have top of the line equipment to do their jobs. Not being arrogant but when I am on scene it's going to be done my way. - Donnie
@@campbellstowingtx Well good for you, but as you can tell there is alot of people commenting on how you were acting in this video. As we all can see you were too much in a hurry. You should watch Ron Pratt Midwest Trucks out of Missouri and see how calm and patient they are with the heavy recovery. Just because you've been in the business for years, doesn't mean you are perfect. Just saying
@@mikebowers8437 well why don’t you invest a couple million and show me how it’s done. I actually took one of Pratts heavy duty recovery classes. Bottom line is my company my decisions. Period.
@@campbellstowingtx I think you guys did a great job not everyday and towing company gets called to move a giant reel
And MIKE....Have you learned anything here,???? or are you a millenial, incapable of learning a damn thing!!????
What a crazy recovery.! I am so glad that no one got hurt doing this 1. It could have gone way bad. Thanks for sharing.😊
Every video that you work with your fellow company guys I sense a level of frustration. Someday this video will be shown in an OSHA 10 class. Why was a large pipe not used through the center of that spool?
Who the hell sets a gazillion pound roll of wire rope on dirt, anyway? Bet they won't make that mistake again.
Right!!?? Especially on the thin circular edges lol
I'm sure they will. There is obviously a downhill slope, and the company doesn't have a clue about possible consequesens. So far for the average level of education,
@@hpruijs haha Brazoria County, except for Damon, is flat as it can be. I don't think there was a slope there until that spool created one!
If you look, it was on a cradle. It just all sunk.
I need a drink after this episode, and I don't even drink. Oh lord😮
That guy is going to get someone killed. No way I would work with someone who has so little regard for others safety.
Brute force and ignorance works but dangerous, basic rules say you stay out of the death zone of a snapped cable. Schedule 100 pipe through the center would be another option!
Yeah I feel like they work around it so much they are probably overly comfortable with stuff like that
We know the WLL of all our rigging and cables.
MAN YOU GOT TO WATCH THEM CABLE'S. CAUSE ONE THEM CABLE'S SNAP AND HIT SOMEBODY IT'S OVER. PRAYING 🙏🙏🙏🙏 FOR A SAFE JOB
Everyone is always saying that you need a heavy duty wrecker. Well here’s a case that they needed a red kenworth 😂. Donny and Clint were making me nervous standing by the winch lines. I think it’s just they were in a hurry, and I’m sure they know what they’re doing. But accidents happen. How do you keep track of how many stress loads and how much of a load a winch line has had? They must have to be changed out.
You don't keep track of what loads the wire rope has had, you simply inspect it regularly to determine if its still safe to be using. Then on each big job like this you at least calculate a rough idea of resistance which was probably 50-60k while it wasn't rolling and around 80k when fully sunk in, once they got it rolling on its own the resistance goes way down to under 10k, They rigged two 3-1s which are at least a WLL of 33k each side if they have 5/8 wire rope, likely a little light on the initial pull to get it out of the hole unless they had thicker wire rope, but they are still well within the 240k breaking load limit.
That guy keeps walking up there not to bright.cause like you said you're going to stand right there.
That definitely was not light 😮
WOW 80,000 pounds dag that's some weight. Yeah I guess that's right cause sometimes you see semi- I truck's on the expressway with one reel on their bed.
Y'all need a rotator for cases like this. I did see a situation that could be corrected: Donny & Clint didn't listen to verbal commands or watch hand signals very well which could be a big problem with equipment and/or human injuries. Thanks for sharing your video of some hard work.
I thought you tow truck guys were trained in winching technique! What you should have done! You 30 tone single winch line over the top of the drum underneath repeat 4 times lock off last two wraps. The pul.l to rotated the drum ! That how we moved giant oaks over 5 tones with 1 ton hand winch... 15 minutes and out!
Wouldn’t have worked if you can’t get the line under the spool….
@@Towtruck_Dustin also could have damaged the cable on the drum.
Oh my that sound of the pulling at the start of the video. Sounded like a rubber band getting streched ready to break. 😮. What an unusual job to watch. Glad you stayed away from the tension on all that. Great skid work Dustan. Stay safe see you on the next one 😊
💪💪💪💪💪💪 time for Dustin to own his own company! You’d make a great owner. 😉
To many cooks on that job ?
Usually the case when they buddy up on these. They get the job done, it just takes a while as everyone tries to go with their plan
No job too big to no job too small. Dustin hauling lawnmowers to 80,000 spools of cable😂
Donnie needs to slow down a little . Seems he is to eager for lunch or dinner .
Whoever Donny is should not be behind the wheel of a fucking wrecker. To many mistakes that could've easily ended badly.
The owner

Mr Dustin Man that looked heavy. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
Thanks!
It weighted roughly 80,000lbs.
It’s always amazing to me how strong the winches on 25 tonne and 35 tonne wreckers are for there size
Great content Dustin. Some real teamwork there. Hafta admit made a little edgy waiting for something to head south.
I call you rookie all the time Donnie is King rookie whenever you work with him he don't never want to listen and then you say even though you a rookie too lots of stuff you say make a lot of sense Donnie should just stay in the office and work the phone good job assisting those guys rookie
Where are the girls that y'all hired
Wow. That is one Hell of a Lot of faith in those winch cables...... Maybe the heaviest wrecker could have lifted the side of the spool that was deep to get it back to level first?
Wow that was some effort but got there in the end💪👍
Hi. Nice video. Love your truck. Red is one of my favourite colours
Thanks for the video Dustin. This one was definitely different from the norm. (I think your boss has a death wish) 😘
If you took the 35 ton and ran the lines back to the stiff legs with a sling to both stiff legs and got a little lift with that boom out a foot it would pull that easily along with the 20ton hooked the same way you get more down pressure on the legs and a better stance good job tho great content
That is the largest 3d printing spool I ever have seen!
Always A Calculated risk. 45 ton slider job done
get closer = more lift = more weight pushing down on ur wheels = less slippage
That wire company must have been missing a huge piece of production equipment.
Most interesting video i've seen for a while.
Thanks!
Thank You! I appreciate that!
Donnie is a axidant waiting to happen
Retired Tow operator here, Obviously recliner Quarterbacking here in my Retirement .
I learned from the late Bill Jackson one of the advantages of a hydraulic wrecker is the use of the boom. Ie Use the boom’s ability to reel it in by the raising of the boom as in reeling a big game fish.
You obviously were dead pulling it out of its sunken spot. So use the booms to reel it in while you”re winching. Good luck. I enjoy your videos
Any 1 know what that cable would be used for
Should convert that over to remote control so you can move around while the job is getting done.
They have remotes, I’m not sure if they have the winches hooked up tho. I know the wheel lifts do.
Ok
работа командой красота👌💪
I don't know about this Donnie character. I looks like he is going to get someone hurt out in the field. Doesn't listen to anyone, gets in a rush, tripping all over the place. Maybe he should stay in the shop or at most work a wheel lift truck where its just him and the vehicle.
exactly..couldn't agree mor

Well you can’t fix stupid but you can buy it I guess
@@Marksummerman please tell me what was stupid? The spool is 85k . The winches on one heavy wrecker are 35k; the winches on the other heavy are 25k. The trucks have computer system that will not allow you to exceed the WLL. We were using 10 ton snatch blocks and the wire rigging were rated at 50k each . The one wrecker when you snatch block back on one winch ups the WLL to 70k pounds on one winch. With both done that’s 140k . The other heavy also had snatch block increasing one winch to 50k. Plus it’s second winch. There was nothing unsafe, or stupid. I would not stand back there running winch controls if I was worried about exceeded WLL of my equipment. I’ve worked very hard to build this company. 0 people hurt, 0 damaged done to recovered unit and 0 damages done to my equipment. So, can’t fix you intellectual shortfalls, but you can take medication.
Need to work smarter, not harder, and I know it’s easy to say from my La-Z-Boy, but you should’ve dug a ramp with your skid steer, slid the plates underneath both sides, and then pulled it up the ramp on the flat ground
We did that. That’s how we got it up…
How is the cabel supposed to be uncoiled when its so heavy?
Do they habe a spindle set up that the reel will hang on then?
Or a cradle with rollers that i would roll on ?
Not sure on that. I’m sure they have a way.
what kind of machine can even process material from a spool that big
should have gotten a big crane to come out and pick it up and swing it around..those cables could have snapped at any time
That was going to be over double the cost. So they opted to have it winched out.
This was well within the capabilities of both trucks.
Eh you know. Money over lives right.
Cables dont just snap, They were within the breaking limits by far, And I believe they were also within the working load limit. 80k spool, Probably around 50-60k in resistance, maybe 80k at the initial pull when it was fully stuck, They have 3 lines each, The lines are at least 5/8 but could be thicker, 5/8 is 11,600 WLL, That is over 66k combined. The breaking strength is over 40k each line, combined they had a breaking strength of 240,000 pounds... Well within the limits of that wire rope. And interesting you say they should of called a crane because a crane would come out with the very same wire rope to lift it... How is it the wire rope on a wrecker will just snap at a moments notice but the cranes wire rope wont?
@@towtruckaj Ignore him, there is always one "would have", "should have" guy in the crowd.
I would have put some large timbers under the middle of the coil.
you would have damaged the product on the coil
should have rig it so you rolled it not just pulled it 🤔
It was rolling…
@@Towtruck_Dustin not when you 1st started it was not rolling
Nice team work!
Dustin, great video all the guys knew what they were doing no rookies there clint and donnie knew how to operate the heavies there was no wrong way to get it done as long as it gets done safely
No, they 100% do not know how to operate a tow truck safe!!!
That was a complete lack of safety. Both Donnie and Clint stood in the "Death Triangle."
Need a 75 ton Rotator for that job .
Why stop at 75, nrc 85 or miller 100 ton why not. lol
Why? You gonna rotate it around? 🤣🤣
Is there any reason you didn't 4-1 it with 2 snatch blocks?
Also generally a fist(hold) is a better stop handsignal than an open palm since waving is usually a keep going signal.
Should definitely make sure everyone agrees on hand signs before the job starts!
The towing company I work for we use 2 way communication headsets.
Pulling power wasn’t the issue. Traction was.
No need to 4-1, The 3-1 with each truck likely had them within the WLL and they were always well within breaking load by a significant amount. Their issue was traction.
@@towtruckaj traction issues are usually controlled by boom height in our operations..jmo
@@ky.gambler5281 boom height only does so much when you are dealing with that much weight and small trucks, the tandom might fair well but that single axle would be floating the front real fast.
A Great ob
Dustin, I love your channel, but for the love of all that is Holy, it is ALRIGHT, not AIGHT

Assist hook on an axle ? Ruin the steering assembly. Rookie mistake.
Did I hear someone say that thing weights 80,000 pounds?
