    Just picked this up today as well. Super excited to start building it, but I'm tempted to wait to see what you put up for assembly.

    Great review thanks for the video! Can't wait to see the model put together.
    Looks like he is about the size of a tyranid harradin, or close to it.

    Damn that's a fine model. I only got the Forgeworld Warhammer one.

    I'll be interested to see how well this goes together. As it's a GW-branded, rather than Forge World, you might expect it to be a bit easier than some of their kits.
    Either way he's a stupendously impressive model.

    It's made entirely out of resin pieces. That is why it is so pricey. I build model airplanes and tanks. Individual resin pieces such as cockpits and wheel wells or an entire resin model kit are usually very pricey. If this was made entirely out of injection molded plastic model kit, it would probably be a quarter or half the price value of this resin kit. If you're patient, wait until maybe Games Workshop release a plastic injection model of Smaug in a much lower price. This kit looks like it should be a statue to display on your collection shelf not on a wargaming table. Hopefully Games Workshop will produce a plastic Smaug spreading its ready to do battle like the RingWraiths and its Nazgul or the Balrog.

    The most out of proportion aspect of the model is price...obviously not intended for the average fan. You sound excited to work on it and I will look forward to seeing what you do with it...should inspire a lot of home grown versions...hmmm...maybe I'll look into that...Jim.

      good guess, buddy and in truth it would be beyond how I approach the hobby. High end modelers and painters probably do see the value in the challenge. I am looking forward to your experience with it...Jim.

      Maybe asking for a raise at work could help too! Real resin models of this size don't come cheap. Good luck, Nina!

      @@Geerladenlad Yeah, a mistake, there. I think. Though, I do forget the origin of this.

    • @Geerladenlad
      @Geerladenlad 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheClassicWorld He decided for the Desolation of Smaug to remove the front limbs since no one had really seen Smaug yet.

    • @TheClassicWorld
      @TheClassicWorld 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Geerladenlad I thought it had something to do with the CGI/animation not really working out and it would be too hard so they just removed the limbs to make it easier as they were already having problems with it, to begin with (or maybe it was to make it cooler and different from normal dragons). I forget.
      I just read The Hobbit the other week, and if I can recall, he had four legs? Though I don't fully recall Tolkien talking about all four legs... bad memory, I guess.
      P.S. on a related note. It's just stupid -- remarkable -- how much Tolkien directly gave us. How much of our media, art, and culture wouldn't exist without him, from High Elves (Tolkien elven race) to RuneScape (MMO game). The man was a titan of mythos, language, and history.

    It pisses me off that they sent you a $500 model with a broken piece and its not even mine. For that price they should do a better job off making sure that doesn't happen during shipping or get missed when packaging. Other than that amazing!!! Thanks for the vid.

    • @davethepak

      Just an FYI - resin is exceptionally fragile, and in kits like this it is EXPECTED for some minor issues like this by hobbyists familiar with resin models.
      Compared to most resin models by games workshop (fw) this one was better packed than any I had ever seen before.

    • @manicelf8807
      @manicelf8807 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      davethepak Glass is exceptionally fragile too. And lots of other stuff you wouldn't except broken. Whether you're a hobbyist who is familiar working with resin or not, a product should reach the customer in perfect condition. If you have your QC right and package it worth a damn there's no excuse. Also, what if a non-expert should buy and receive a resin model damaged is that just tough luck for not being an skilled hobbyist? Maybe resin should come with a warning stating that only expert hobbyists should buy this so they know what to do if it's broken on arrival.

    • @mjramirez24
      @mjramirez24 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Michael Miller Absolutely have worked with resin. I have been in this hobby for twelve years now. If your the kind of person that likes getting slapped in the face and smiles about it then be my guest. I am most definitely not that person. If i pay $500 for anything you better believe I make sure its 100% or I send it back.

    • @manicelf8807
      @manicelf8807 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Michael Miller So you're saying resin is just not for the unskilled. We just don't know what we're taking about right.
