I first heard of you when you were touring northern Michigan. I became a Michael Card follower from the first small concert. Your music and message draw your audience in. Thank you. God bless you and your understanding family.
I've been to several of Michael's concerts, and have each time found it to be a worship experience that blessed us. I can think of no other modern writer of faith and worship songs whose lyrics are always Biblically sound and always deliver a profound message. On top of that, his music is beautiful to listen to. There can be no doubt that he was called to this ministry.
25 years ago I used to listen every day Michael's album " The Life " My older brother also used to get mad cause He was uncomfortable listening same songs every day!( He said) One day while He was listening the song WHY, He paid attention to the lírics then God touched his heart and became a Christian. God bless Michael Card ! His sacrifice in the road composing songs music teaching etc... He Had already years ago a least one fruit. Thanks Michael!!! God bless You And bless your family too!!!
I love Michael's music, he inspired me, his music blessed me for many years, but I think "the call to be on the road" leaving the family is to go and preach the Gospel but in reality only Christians that already know Jesus listen to Michael Card, he is not preaching to the Gospel to unbelievers thoughts?
As a father of four myself, this is a tough call. I understand the principle of " forsaking family" that Jesus speaks of in the gospels, I'm just not sure it's within the context of a father's responsibility to their children. I guess I've just seen too many missionary and pastor's kids who have been "sacrificed" under the guise of " the ministry". Just as in the old adage " charity starts at home" I think it's fair to say "the gospel and living it out starts at home." The element of time seems to be the operative word for accomplishing this. Obviously, I'm not in this brother's shoes and would never suggest what would have been the correct path for him. What I do recognize is that the little I know of him through his music, he seems to be an individual guided by pure motives. That speaks volumes.
devin t in many parts of the world, people have to work abroad and leave their kids behind. That is not even church work. Just secular jobs. If they can do it in the secular world, how much more if it’s a more higher calling???
I love Michael Card and hugely enjoy his music, but this whole 'faith over family' thing seems to me to be misconstrued here. The verses that Michael quotes refer to those who are not really committed to Jesus at all, not to Christians who are confused about their priorities. What Michael is really talking about is 'ministry over family.' There is no distinction between your faith and your family. As a husband and a father I am to lead and nurture my wife and child in the faith, teaching them, living as an example to them. They are, if you like, my first ministry. I am also a church leader and have been called to lead and serve the congregation as well. But when a Christian has been called to lead in both the home and the pulpit, is there any teaching to say that the pulpit should take priority?
Would you say Michael that the Catholic Chris is wrong yet? Worshipping Mary etc? Just noticed you seem to support them alot and we need to call out the sins they have not embrass them.
This is a total distortion of Jesus words. It is NOT in regards to a parents responsibilty to their partner or children. In fact, very likely, the musician's 'family' has become their touring and instruments and they need to forsake these and embrace the gospel in their daughters, sons and wives. They are not forsaking for the gospel at all if there family have had to adapt to such a life when they first met them - the gospel is the other way around, I "adapt" or much more, I die. Stop justifying your self-servining "abandonment" - pick up your cross and serve your wife, your kids, your family, your friends - a new commandment I give you AND no greater love than this, that you lay down your life for your friends. Where is your "atonement" for your friends, your family?
When I was growing up in the 70's and 80's, my father would leave sometimes for weeks at a time to be in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Fiji, the Philippines, or some far-flung part of the Marshall islands. He was never gone long, but he felt like he was missing most of the landmark moments in his children's lives.
I think this guy is off in his beliefs somewhere, where, I don't know, I'd have to see his personal statement of faith, but the Holy Ghost doesn't quite 'register' with Mr card. The apostle Paul's life was certainly no picnic, and neither is all TRUE believers, of which there are few and far between today, - Jesus is coming, for his bride, to rapture us outta here, then he will pour out his wrath upon this wicked world. Yeshua - Jesus, is God almighty.
My wife and I have listened to your music for 40 years and love it. Thank you!

Telling it like it is. Refreshing.
you are such a blessing to me and the body of Christ
Bring your family on the road with you. Make it a family ministry. It’s hard but at least you’ll be together.

30 doesnt matter if its 50, its quality, not quantity.................
o
....and I'm guessing, even though they're 'few & far between today' that you consider yourself a 'true believer!!??'
