    The Nutube sounds even better with 18v going through it. Also the blend knob makes a massive difference with fine tuning your tone preference. Cheers

    Since you're a technical guy here my explanation; A tubescreamer adds an extra tube stage to a preamp externally. Either you want it to boost (saturating the tubes) or keep levels low and enhance harmonics. It saturates soft, blends the clean signal and has a narrow bandwidth, so works great with hard clipping (modern high-gain) amps too even at times transparently.

      @Rumy 73 I own a TS808, TS9, and the NTS, and prefer the NTS as well. If you run it at 18v, you have a little more headroom as well, which just adds a little more "punch". Not saying night and day, but a little none the less. With the mix knob @ 12:00, it's very similar in sound to the TS808, more to the right, is more of the NEW stuff which is introduced due to the NuTube tech.

    Coped a NTS tubescreamer for 40 bucks with a catch a couple of days ago. The footswitch has a bit of a problem. It turns on a off sometimes. For the most part it's been working since I purchased it. I guess I can say it was a steal .

    This just makes me want to buy the NTS. I have been fascinated by Nutubes since they were released, and the use in a TS pedal is actually quite nice since instead of a solid state stomp sound, it almost has a nice low wattage amp front end drive sound.

    My opinion on Tube Screamers is limited because I never thought it was what my tone wanted. I got a free OD-1 with my SP-1 and that has been quite a bit of fun, I figured my green pedal could just be yellow. Recently the ensemble added a couple new members and one or so of them could perhaps feature some drive.
    I have only ever regretted choosing a pedal when I considered price as a factor, and as near as I can figure it, the NuTube and the Vemuram sound like the kind that I like. Funny how that goes. 🤔

    I run the Nu-tube screamer through my stereo set up. Going through the Earthquaker Swissthings pedal to my two amps, 1st is a Carvin X50B with 4x12 cab and the other is a Marshall jcm800 4010 combo. That Nu tube screamer adds something like a HD (high definition) sound, very almost 3D it's really hard to explain. It's an amazing pedal, I gain stack it with my Zakk Wylde overdrive and it's just an amazing pedal, very underrated. I like it much better then the original.
    Great video, awesome, cheers!
    I run my nu tube through 18v a lot more push, and headroom.

    In 35+ years playing I never used a tube screamer. So I bought one, some Maxon Anniversary Edition. Good pedal. But the truth is: I still don't need it. I boost with a Spark or the Tim Pierce Pedal. Or add Marshall distortion with the SL Drive. Or thicken up with the Friedman Motor City Drive. Or make it brutal with Friedmans BE-OD pedal. No complaints here: good video, and the TS is a classic. And yes, I did send the Maxon back.

      Andy Lord not even the same ballpark as the tsv 808 . I can’t believe how wonderful this pedal is . No disrespect as the bonsai is a nice pedal but this tsv is in a league all on it’s own . It’s like a tubescreamer that’s more pissed w/ loads more gain and low end . It also compresses the way a tubescreamer does through a fender amp giving you that Texas blues spank . Every vemuram pedal I’ve tried blows me away . Anyway just my two cents enjoy your sounds my man .

    • @jordandangelo180
      @jordandangelo180 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rocker801 I agree. I owned many Tube Screamers, including a Bonsai. Recently bought a TSV808 after really loving the Jan Ray and always loving a TS-808 for the last 20 years and I was blown away. Sold the Bonsai. It’s a great pedal but the Vemuram is as good as it gets. It’s what I’ve always wanted from a pedal and I’ll never sell it. The brass enclosure with the green tint in amazing too. Super high quality. I then decided to purchase the Vemuram Josh Smith Myriad Fuzz and it’s the best fuzz pedal I’ve ever played. It’s Germanium and Silicon and you can externally bias the germanium. It does everything including cleaning up really well. I’ll bought and sold over 65 pedals but ill never sell my Vemuram Jan Ray, TSV808 or the Myriad Fuzz. I’d rather spend the money on a pedal I absolutely love and will never sell then buy 5-10 pedals trying to find the sound I’m looking for. In the end, you spend 5 times as much buying decent pedals instead of one great pedal.

    The three are really great and it's true that the Vemuram brings something different, but... I'm a bit skeptical about the price. 500 euros for an overdrive... It's different than the Tube Screamer ok, fatter etc, high end quality, etc, alright, but still... I'm quite sure there are overdrives out there that could do the exact same job, costing at least half the price.
    Come on, it's even more than the double of a regular 808 ! OK, I understand people have to pay for quality and it's clearly a quality product, but it's... Only an overdrive in the end... But each one is free to do whatever he wills with his bank account, of course ! :D

    • @TheNocturnalEvil
      @TheNocturnalEvil 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll say it ain't worth it. If I ever get the wild idea to spend over $400 on an overdrive pedal then I would rather spend it on an Effectrode Tube Drive instead of this pedal. At least the Effectrode Tube Drive is worth its price.

    • @CarlyonProduction

    Doesn’t Ibanez make a model of tubescreamer with an actual real tube, or is that Maxon? I feel the mini could easily be modded with an original 4558 chip from the 70s and those blue/white stripes diodes installed - and then it would sound exactly like the best tubescreamer there is!

    • @TheNocturnalEvil
      @TheNocturnalEvil 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ibanez used to make the Tube King TK999US and TK999OD overdrive pedals that used real 12AX7 tubes. They weren't Tube Screamers though. They were clones of the Tube Works Real Tube Overdrive pedal which itself was based on BK Butler Tube Driver. Compared to the highly sought after Tube Works Real Tube Overdrive and BK Butler Tube Driver, those two clones by Ibanez were substantially more affordable. The Maxon RTO700 is the further evolution of those two pedals. They belong to a completely different family of overdrive pedals and have no similarity to the Tube Screamer. All of them use an undervolted 12AX7 tube running at 12.6 volts to make the signal clip, they don't use any solid-state clipping stage. Due to this reason Overdrive pedals belonging to the BK Butler Tube Driver family sound way richer in harmonics than Tube Screamer.
      As for Tube Screamer pedals with tubes. Ibanez makes the Nutube based Tube Screamer. Maxon on the other hand makes the TOD-9 which is a subminiature tube-based Tube Screamer. Among them, the Maxon TOD-9 is better because the subminiature tube responds more like a full-size vacuum tube than the Nutube. However, TBH their tube-based stage is just a farce, both of them use solid-state clipping stage to clip the signal.
      If you want tube-based overdrive pedals that not only use pure tube-based cascaded gain stages but also run their tubes at full 300 volts or 200 volts plate voltage then go for the ones made by Effectrode, Kingsley, or Sushi Box FX. Unlike other fake tube-based pedals, these pedals use multiple cascaded pure tube-based gain stages for clipping the signal. The ones made by Sushi Box FX are quite unique because they use cascaded sub-miniature tube-based gain stages and their sub-miniature tubes run at full 200 volts. The ones made by Kingsley are a lot bulkier because they use full-size 12AX7 tubes running at 300 volts. The ones made by Effectrode are complete monsters that not only run full-size tubes at 300 volts but also let you hot-swap the tubes to change the gain characteristics of the overdrive pedal.

    • @voxpathfinder15r
      @voxpathfinder15r 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheNocturnalEvil great information! I also have some of Vox tone garage pedals, the 12AX7 tube is being run at a full 200 volts, the previous cool tron series was 12 volts and a bit of a farce as well

    • @TheNocturnalEvil
      @TheNocturnalEvil 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@voxpathfinder15r Those Tone Garage pedals were really underrated. However, among the Tone Garage pedals, only the Flat 4 Boost used a pure tube-based circuitry, and it was an excellent pedal. If only VOX would have marketed the Flat 4 better they would have smoked pedals like TC Electronic Spark Booster into weeds. When you put the Flat 4 into mid-boost mode it even curb stomps dedicated mid-boost pedals like the VFE Focus, and VFE Standout.
      The Straight 6 Overdrive and V8 Distortion used transistors before the 12AX7 based gain stage though. The reason VOX chose to use transistors before the 12AX7 gain stage instead of pure cascading tube-based gain stages with multiple tubes is quite understandable. They had size, price, and production scale constraints.
      Pure tube-based overdrive pedals with multiple cascading tube gain-stages like the ones made by Effectrode and Kingsley tend to be quite pricey and bulky. Effectrode Tube Drive is a rather impractically large pedal. Most effect pedals buyers ain't willing to spend over $400 on an overdrive pedal and those who are willing to spend high don't prefer huge and bulky effect pedals.
      The ones made by Sushi Box FX are reasonably priced and are compact (because they use Russian subminiature tubes) but they're not suitable for large scale production. Large scale production requires parts that are currently in production so as to ensure a constant supply of parts. Using new old stock Cold-War era Russian subminiature tubes is impractical for large scale production because their supply is never constant, sometimes you find a huge stockpile of them, and at other times you find none.
