Annual Sports Day At Unity College, Lucknow

On 17th December 2017, the most eagerly awaited Sports Day dawned with vibrant energy and sportive spirit all over the ground. A mystic string of thrilling sports events constituted the day of sprightly performances and colourful pageant.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Brig. Alok Tripathi, Commandant ASC Centre (North). College Principal Mr. Francis Castelino warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and the gathering. In his address, he abreast the audience with the college achievements towards excellence in academics, sports and other curricular activities. He also apprised of its tri-sister branches: Unity College-2nd shift under the free education programme, Unity Industrial Centre affiliated to ITI and Unity Veda Animation College in association with PAI-VEDA, Pune.
The event commenced with the soulful rendition of the sacred verses from the Quran, the Bible and the Bhagwat Geeta. Chief Guest Brig. Tripathi declared the Sports Meet open by releasing balloons that soared majestically high in the sky as a mark of zeal, energy and healthy competition. It was followed by the spectacular March Past with a well synchronized swing of arms and thudding of feet to the sprightly beats of the College Band. Then the field and track events and Inter House Relay races for senior and junior boys sparked loud cheers of Houses egging on their respective teams. The same events for girls too held a day prior the Meet showcased energy, speed and agility. At the same time, it emphasized that the girls are not behind the boys, but maintained their womanly modesty. The winners were awarded with prizes and certificates.
The most fascinating moments, involving mass students’ participation offered an eye- feasting panorama of hues and vibrancy. First in the order came the tiny tots of Pre-Nursery spreading their pristine and cherubic charm all over as they performed to the soulful lines of a Sufi song and filled the ambience with spiritualism. Then the ‘Aero-Bhangra’ by classes III, IV and V rocked the ground with energy, cheerfulness and vitality. Their captivating steps on the foot tapping music enthralled the spectators. Next Drill ‘Aley Aley Disney’ by Class I and II vivaciously transported the gathering to the Disney Land of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Their integrated moves and mesmerizing performance surcharged the show. Last but not the least in the sequence of drills was the ‘Women Empowerment’ by Middle school girls. The thought provoking drill presenting their dexterity and precision enthralled the audience and brought home the strong message of girls’ education, skyward aspirations and modest liberty. It was followed by Mass P.T. of Middle school boys presenting meticulous discipline, determination and vigour.
Then the pyramid formations emphasized the sheer grit for national integration and prosperity. The tug-of-war between class XI and XII girls struck the most exciting moments as the spectators watched the bouts of sheer strength and team spirit. Then the final icing on the cake was put on with the ring of fire-that evoked awe and wonder. The daring deeds of the dare-devils held the breath for the moment entailed by a resounding round of appreciation.
Addressing the gathering the Chief Guest Brig Tripathi congratulated the entire fraternity of Unity College for the meticulous show of sports events. He also complimented the divine rendition of the three Holy Scriptures at the beginning of the Meet as a rare phenomena of secularism witnessed only in the Indian Army.
College Secretary Mr. Najmul Hasan Rizvi in his address thanked one and all and motivated the students to excel in all areas and make the right career choices in life and then strive to achieve their goal.
The curtain drew on the sportive arena of sizzling performances and winning vigour with the vote of thanks by Founder President Dr. S. Kalbe Sadiq. He exhorted the gathering not to waste time in observing religious rituals too much but to change with time and move ahead or the society will surpass crushing them. And that Humanity is above all. One who is good to others is the best and the most successful.
