Megazilla is planned for aftermarket as a crate engine. There is no plans for a production 7.3 in a S650 whatsoever.

    I spent many a Friday night at Atco. The late eighties and nineties were a different time for horsepower. We really had to earn our power increases. Not that tuners nowadays have it easy but they have access to a lot of tech and equipment that was not readily available then. Just something like dyno access was very expensive and there were not many around either.

    Remember, Ford Performance did confirm they were working on a "Megazilla" about three years ago as a crate option. It was supposed to be a twin turbo variant of the 7.3L Godzilla. They also confirmed an aluminum block, de-stroked version coming as a 6.8L v8. Ford is debuting the all new Superduty today the 27th, supposedly it will have the new 6.8L "Godzilla" as the base engine with the Iron Block 7.3L "Godzilla" as an option.

    Kinda upset it’s not going to be a dohc engine like the 5.0l. The coyote is a monster, not only does it hold the fastest stick shift record it’s also a demon in terms of air flow and thermodynamics. It’s a shame we’ll never see this engine with larger displacement.

    • @CoyoteFTW
      @CoyoteFTW ปีที่แล้ว +12

      We will see a high displacement coyote, 5.5l most likely. Would be nice see 6.0l, Ford is racing GT3 Mustang they NEED to homologate a car and engine in order to race, like the C8 Z06. I can’t wait to see it.

    • @JacesOwnWorld
      @JacesOwnWorld ปีที่แล้ว +11

      No. Using the 5.0l in the GT500 would not be smart. Why? Because what would be the purpose of buying the GT500 if you can just make your GT just as fast for a lot cheaper since it would have the same engine? That's why. Using a completely different motor in the Shelby cars makes them more special.

    • @Steve-yr5vi
      @Steve-yr5vi ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is the larger the displacement the less DOHC benefits an engine. Ford had a 5.7 DOHC in the works, little brother to the 6.2. however the efficiency wasn't there and they went with the 5.0 instead.

      Everyone has a different opinion of what they enjoy. You can rarely convince a drag racer to go road racing, & vice versa. Its just 2 totally separate mentalities. Drag racing is a sport of preparation. Where in road racing, you can start out in the bk of a 24 car field. & after a few accidents, your in position fir a podium finish. Drag racing is a King of the Hill type sport. a 'Biggus Dickuss' contest.
      Do it on any strip of asphalt/road thats closed.
      Disclaimer: Off public roads, pple. 🙄 🙈
      RARELY do stk rear ends hold up to both big power & drag radial tires, before needing upgraded. THATS why drag racing is a sport of preparation. Gotta know Before ya Go! & u will still likely break something eventually.

    • @tyarnold4088
      @tyarnold4088 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@here_for_the I completely agree with you. 90% of people are 1 or the other. I am one of the few who would enjoy both. I just don't have tracks near me.

    • @here_for_the
      @here_for_the ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tyarnold4088 yeah. I can speak to drag racing, since its directly how we made our living for decades. More so in the car construction area, than in the driving on the track. Seen the million ways you can break or have a failure that causes you to either lose, or just be unsuccessful at the track. My job IS TO MAKE guys like S/M successful at the track, when he goes. Yet do to the internet making everyone an expect nowadays. Guys rarely are wise enuff to go to their local car builders, & ask questions. I tell anyone who puts * drag radials * on a stk veh, or should I say, a stk tranny/ rear differential. You WILL likely break 1 of the 2 on a prepared surface. Now, everyone will say they already know this. Yet if they knew it, why waste the time, effort, cost of entry, cost of fuel, & expenditures to get to & from a track. At least before they have properly prepared the car. If you're far away from a track, then a hotel rm stay is likely involved. Plus family/friends that travel along. I made my living working for high level amateur & professional racers cars. Buult 100s of tube chassis 25-1 & 25-2 SFI spec door cars & others. As they (affluent racers) actually know the value of hiring pple like myself vs the cost of failures at the trk. There is a saying in our business.
      'The amateurs learn from their mistakes. While the Professional learns from the successes of others, he hires'.
      Its partly why drag racing is a dying sport nowdays at nearly all levels. Because pple are to stubborn to pay qualified help to get their program right 1st. Yet use the internet in place of professional guidance. Instead, they often tear stuff up till they decide to quit drag racing, or go to yet a more expensive sport, like road racing thinkingits a solution on practice days.
      Where instead of replacing broken components when racing thru curves, they wear out consumables qwikly, that are also expensive.
      Cup 2 tires = EXPENSIVE
      Brake pads = EXPENSIVE
      Oil chg's (necessary after hard track days & 10 Qrts/ Full synthetic oil & trans fluids & diff fluids routinely) = EXPENSIVE
      So if ya know anything about racing, ya know that its actually pretty cheap to properly prep a GT500 w/parts that survive the drag strip, vs parts you must replace to get the most trom your car on a road racing course. Ford did a great job of engineering our GT500's for competition in straight & curved driving courses. If ya leave um Stk, or within about 10%/15%. Heck, they giv u a 3/36k warranty on the 4000lb-760hp machine. Thats actually sorta stupid, yet a testimonial to the cars abilities. & ya get what? Up to about 3k drop on the launch control? Not too shabby.
      Even if you're just playing FOLLOW the LEADER stuff on a rd coarse. Its expensive to maintain these cars.
      Drag racing is truly AMERICAN'a. Its OUR sport in N. America. They say the 1st drag race took place in the 1st town that had 2 cars. Yet now, pple dont have the proper mindset for it nowdays. They just want #'s to share on internet forums and w/friends at Stake-N-Shake on Saturday night.
      Real drag racers are the guys who used to work all week on there cars, to go racing. Had to cuz they couldn't afford to pay for others to do the wrk. Its wasn't about the guy who bought a Procharger or NOS kit, & tk it to the local dyno shop, & had them install/ & load a tune in. Then went out & broke it. & niw still hav to pay some shop to fix it cuz they didn't do everything necessary. The reason nobody fixes there own cars?? Time..
      Pple's own time is to valuable to them nowadays, to wrk on there car & RACE IT.
      They thk installing headers & jack rails makes um true car guys.
      & thats fine. Just instead, use that money you're making when not working on your own car, to buy ALL the right parts to keep it in 1 pcs when you do race it. Cuz anyone who thinks drag racing is any cheaper than any other competitive auto sport, is just misinformed. Or very slow 🐌
      ....Nuff said....

The Mustang has been a high tech and more performance based then quarter mile sprinter for some time now. Putting a pushrod V8 just doesn't make sense. But bring back a big Torino would be awesome.

    I suspect that Ford trolled GM and Mopar!! Simce GM and Mopar always make fun of Ford BUT then eventually do what Ford does So GM and mopar did it before Ford did. So Ford was like, "Oh we're going full EV, no more V8s!" GM and Mopar "beat" Ford to it And now Ford is all alone and still killing it with V8s, and will pull mopar and gm customers over. It baited them lol! Either that or theyll continue the V8 but somehow distance the Mustang from ford, like a Ram and Dodge situation so ford can still be considered "greener". Idk, that last part is too much of a stretch! ALSO, WHERES MY CALL TO COME PICK UP MY RAFFLE CORVETE?!!!

      Agreed, but without rebuilding with quilty high performance parts throughout it's just a matter of time before my stock (even with the stock Manely rods/pistons.) bites the dust. I've seen this at the drag strip with the group of Cobras I've raced with for the last 15+ years. These MOD motors are very expensive to build with race parts compared to a push rod engine. Plus, this fairly new 7.3 isn't nearly as wide of an engine. Leaving plenty of extra room to work. My DOHC is as wide as the United States! On top of that, we're talk'n 4.6L = 280 cubic inches -VS- 7.3L = 445 cubic inches. I'll take a big block over a small block any day. 445 cubic inches plus race heads, race internals and a blower or turbo set-up I'm sure it'll spin a dyno at 12 to 1300 HP with ease. I already ditched the IRS for a Ford 9-inch rear.

    • @andrewdelelio4475
      @andrewdelelio4475 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Mark-lq3sb Agreed. 03/04 cobras are animals, but like you said they’re basically ticking time bombs when you’re pushing high horsepower constantly. There’s a couple guys I’ve been following that hit high 8’s with just a blower/stick swap. That’s about as fast as I’ve seen a blower cobra run and like you said, a 7.3 in a cobra would be on a whole new level. Hell even an auto trans is insane in a terminator so I couldn’t imagine an engine with nearly twice as much displacement.
