Your video hit home so hard! Thank you! What made me go and start decluttering were your words about things running my life or actually ME running my life. And what helped me during the process was your idea about things I kept just because of a possible future self that I am not even interested in becoming, plus I have kept stuff for past selfs that I thought I might need again one day. I have actually been listening to your video again and again whilst finally decluttering my clothes. Now I have a mountain of clothes to give to goodwill and I feel so much better already now that I can open my closet and it is not spilling over with stuff that I don‘t use/like anyway whilst all the good stuff is hidden. I feel free of all the burdens of future selfs that I don‘t even want to become.
Nicely said. I watch you because of the tough love, it's what's needed to help me on my journey to declutter. You do say things in a nice way even though tough love is for our own good. TY.
I did this yesterday. I wanted to learn how to make pasta. I made it by hand and then thought I need a pasta machine. that would make me happy. So I went to go get it and then I thought. oh man, this is just going to stay in the box. This is for the person I think my future self will be, so I left it at the store. One of my bumps on the journey is bringing more stuff into my house.
I watched this video twice..great advice and a great mental reset for a Monday morning! I also love the clip of Robyn and Robyn on the two couches please keep using that in your videos I always get a big laugh at the face you make trying to hide in your book!
Thank you so much for this video. I struggle with putting myself first, but am making progress towards that. I am trying to declutter my house as we are planning a move to another state. I would like to pack and take only the things we will need and use! Sometimes, I get so overwhelmed that I shut down and don't do anything.I am slowly getting a handle on things thanks in part to your boot camp and videos. Now to go do 15 mins in the bedroom, getting rid of stuff I don't use and is causing me stress.
I definitely think that many people do not make the connection between the stress they feel and they're cluttered environment. So because of that they can't even choose to declutter for the benefit of themselves. But the happiness that you're referring to is really joy. Things and circumstances can both make us feel happy for a short moment, but the only way to have true joy is to have trust in Jesus Christ. When my belief is in the promises of God that He will not give me circumstances that I am unable to bear and that His steadfast love endures forever, then no matter my circumstances, even ones that are not happy, I can choose joy. To sum up, happy is a feeling, joy is a choice. 💕
I am actively decluttering, posting items to sell or give away and dropping stuff off at charity shops but it is going to take a while. My goal is to drop off at least a box or bag a week. My husband is 100% on board so that helps a lot. Dropped of a bag this morning so hopefully there will be multiple drop offs this week! I watch your videos to keep me motivated.
My husband is now what’s holding me back on fully decluttering the house. He doesn’t like any form of change in the house & will act like a toddler if I do much of anything. He would have every square inch of the living room covered in old pictures that he refuses to dust. When we bought our house a friend told him that hallways were for the family pictures. He complained & that’s how it’s been. I consolidated multiple pictures into 8x10 collage style pictures & I even limit those!
Same here. Both my husband and dauvhter are messy gatherers. I have purged all my stuff and a lot of "household stuff" but out of respect for them I can't tackle their things. I wish the video would explain how to deal with that.
I feel your pain, my husband has a hard time parting with a pair of socks when one has a large hole. Hoping as he sees my stuff earlier to handle he might let go of some things. He actually suggested a shared item to go on the local "Buy Nothing" site so maybe there is hope.
My hubby started getting uncharacteristically anxious after I started decluttering. I've reassured him several times that I am only decluttering my stuff. I explained, more than once, my why's. I told him it doesn't help me if he questions my decision to let my own stuff go. That helped a little. But he said something that sticks with me and makes me slow down and keep his needs in mind. He said: But I like stuff. He s more comfortable with things around. So I decorate a little more in some rooms than others so we can both have peaceful areas. I want our home to be comfortable for both of us. I am ready to let things go. He's not. Maybe he will never be. That's okay. Letting go of mine makes it better. Almost 46 years married. He's a keeper. Even with all the stuff. 😄
Hello :) thank you SO much to express this message as it is like giving ourselves the permission to self care first :) as we tend to feel guilty of it at first but then, I noticed I feel better with others in fact when caring my needs first now :) thank you to confort us in that journey :)
I feel like I just don't have the energy to declutter. I know I need to do that. The clutter is getting to be. I just don't know what it is... I'm trying to do the 10 minute a day declutter. I think what bugs me is that whatever I declutter I don't see the big progress. :(
@@MinimalistHome A lot of times i try to put things to places where they belong. But than my ADD kicks in and i start cleaning up the area i go to. :( so frustrating.... But i keep trying. Thank you for all your tips in your videos.

Wow! Great insights, thanks for sharing

Yes, this can be hard. I think carefully before buying something too
Yes absolutely. Shopping for craft things makes me "happy." But I'm not putting myself first by decluttering.
Yes!
What a gift of a video. Thank you so much 💕
Thank you! Glad you liked it!

Yes! Do it!! You will be so happy that you do. It's so good to move after a declutter also
Hmmm, I still have SOME clutter, but a lot less of it now!

I agree Jenny!
Just what I needed to hear today. Thank you, Robyn!
Thanks Karen! I'm glad to speak to you today

Poor you! Is it a control thing, on his part? Or does he really have some other issues? I hope for your sake, something can change!
Oh that is too bad. It sounds like he may need to explore this topic with a therapist

Absolutely!! Thanks Luna
So good, Robyn! Thanks!! I’m on a roll decluttering at the moment and this was very helpful.
Woohoo Jennifer!!
As I declutter my physical place, it de-stresses my mental space. It's a 2 for 1. I need both. Thanks for your help in this journey.
You're welcome!!
I've been putting myself first and doing more gardening. Its been very relaxing working through all the end of Summer jobs outside.
Oh that's so great!
I choose me. Thanks Robyn
You're welcome Bridget!

Do you stick to one area Julie? Or move around? if you work 10 minutes per day in one area, you should see results soon...

Selfishness is never a lasting motivation for me. The fact is, my house always gets cleaner when I'm expecting people over.
That's why I'm saying to put yourself first
Am I the first ?!?!? Wow
And thanks again for sharing another great video!!! ❤
Thanks for watching Jessica
