  • If the children in your class aren't behaving, it could be for a number of reasons. Here, behaviour expert Sue Cowley looks at seven of the biggest mistakes teachers can make, from lack of consistency in expectations, through to letting your emotions rule.

I like this lady - she talks sense and sounds like she has been there. We all learn from our mistakes. Just a few simple things to add - if you want to command your classroom then issue commands. The more you tolerate, the more you have to tolerate. If you fail to stay calm, the issue quickly becomes your temper and not the behaviour of your students. And lastly - be yourself, everyone else is taken. (Oscar Wilde) Coach L author of The Successful (Less Stressful) Student and now writing The Successful (Less Stressful) Teacher. If anyone can recommend a good UK education publisher I would appreciate your feedback. Good luck to all you new teachers out there - listen and learn from this wise lady.

Thank you for this video! I’ve been working as a teacher in Ukraine for 8 years and moved to the Uk. So now everything starts from the beginning for me. But in this video I found many things I couldn’t structuring in my head before. Thank you it is a big support for me!

Adults often say stupid things to kids. A classic one is "How many times have I told you not to talk with your mouth full? Answer me!". Telling students to listen quietly is a very good example of this.
