Because society totally changed, and crime changed with it. Firstly, the UK was the most violent country in Europe in the 1980s. As we got further away from the 80s, the kinds of crime often featured here became less and less and were much more easily solved. Take for example the Armed robbery in this one - they don't really happen these days. Nobody uses cash much and cash security makes stolen notes unusable. Back then, the police didn't have the technology they do now. These days, DNA and CCTV is much better. People can take photos with cameras. Their location and message history is on their phones. Back then, police needed witness info much, much more than they do now. People can also access the police on social media immediately these days rather than wait for a monthly TV programme like then. Viewing habits also changed, and crimewatch viewing figures went down over 80%. So in short, the police needed the programme much less and the public had stopped watching. Crimewatch is great social history, but it is just that - history. So many of the cases featured would be solved very quickly if they'd happened now.
