  • We all know that black and white e-readers have been around for over 15 years, and it is well-documented how well they perform under the sun. There is little to no glare, which makes it ideal for people who love to curl up and read. But what about the new Remarkable Paper Pro with a Gallery 3 screen. How does this perform outside? Does it even work?

Good test. I think people that are puzzled as to why you would pay for an eink e-reader over an iPad need to see this…

I thought epaper stays on until it needs to change, so without power it will remain in the same spot. Why is it having to refresh so much (as the alert sez) due to light and heat ?

Probably due to the ink particles losing charge or "deteriorating". E-Ink doesn't need to stay on to keep its image but that doesn't mean that it can stay that way forever, there's still deterioration so I'm guessing the Sun accelerates the living shit out of that deterioration.

@@basdfgwe I think just because its a physical system making the image and not a screen, so light and heat both bring energy into the system affecting the levels of the different pigments so destabalising the image.

I noticed this long time ago as my older Fenix watches from Garmin used E ink instead of Oled

There were lots of smart watches that used epaper instead of other tech

Totally wrong!! Garmin never adopt eink display but MIP display as they used today even their latest generation Fenix.

Having to swipe multiple times to make it react together with sluggish rendering really bugs me.

It's not as bad in person. I thought I'd hate it but it's not bad. It's also much less noticeable the thinner the black area. It does show up alot at night with a back light.
