Don't buy new headlights. Take it to Sam's club and they will make them clear and beautiful for $39.99. they will also warranty their work for 5 years. If they ever start hazing they will clear them again. At my Sam's they did a great job. Your Camry is really nice. Maybe you should keep it and hit that half million milestone. Thanks for the videos. Have a great night.
I would second this. Cheap headlamp have very bad beams, that it would be also more economical to recondition the current headlamp. I also suggest once it is buffed clear, a clear coat layer should be applied to keep safe from UV.
Cool thing about an old Toyota is if a lady compliments you on your car you know she might be worth talking to. Me? 1998 Camry 130K miles, drove it yesterday to a nutrition class then to walmart and Dollar Tree. Got some gas, groceries and frozen veggies maybe $65 and what I spent was far far less than a car payment. My old dog can still jump into the Camry but I have to lift her into the F150.
When people would pull next to me at a light and snicker because I wasn't driving the latest greatest . I get them to roll down their window and ask them how's the car payment running
This video deserves to get far more views than you would normally expect for your channel and subscribers. This is an example of how lost Americans are getting completely fleeced with so many inflated prices for so many things and pointless spending left right and center.
my 2003 Corolla still going like champ. I bought it for 3k in 2016 from first owner. It had 97k miles. I drove it for years, then my husband chose to drive it when gas prices skyrocketed. I work remote don’t commute a lot.
Great job taking care of that car Edward. I been dealing with car payments my whole like. I look forward to take care of my vehicles and definitely stay oway from payments from now on. You are a great example for all of us.
Back in the day, I owned a 1998 Toyota Camry. I bought it used with 38,000 miles and drove it problem-free to over 200,000. I really liked that car. But it began to have engine problems. Still, 200,000 miles was a pretty good run. The vehicle was otherwise in very good condition. The shop encouraged me to fix it because after I did it would continue run 'forever'. I should have taken their advice. If you really like your car and its still running problem-free then keep it and don't get a new car. Buying a new vehicle is a waste of money. You know this. After my old Toyota, I've owned three brand new vehicles over the years. Each of these new vehicles cost north of $40,000. It was a foolish way to invest my money, but it wasn't until recently that I really begun to understand this. I wouldn't buy another new car now. The build quality quality of many newer vehicles simply isn't as good as years ago...from the plastics, to the veneers, to the so-called leather. Also, they all have more sophisticated computerized modules in them that WILL go bad after a few years and, depending on the part, can be extremely expensive to replace. My last new vehicle is a 2017 Mercedes SUV. It ran problem-free for the 7 years I've owned it but now it needs maintenance that is quite costly. The replacement part costs less than $400, but the labor costs $2300! Crazy.
Wow! I bought a 2002 chrysler town and country limited in 2015 with 65k on it. Selling it tomorrow to my dad’s good friend for a low price $500, car has 128k about on it. I had paid about $2,750 cash. Owned it about 9 years drove my kids to school. If you calculate 9 years into 108 months, the car cost me about $25 per month, minus the insurance and maintenance fees. Then I get to sell it for $500, so it comes to about $20 a month to own in the end. I didn’t worry about wear and tear with two kids, it even had a small screen and dvd player for the kids. We called it “the mommy van.” It was all at the advice of my husband, I know almost nothing about buying a car.
I'm have a 18 yr old 2006 FORD T that's got 154,000 plus miles on the odo. sure there is rust on the bottom of the doors, the rear drivers side under panel is gone, rust in rear wheel wells, the emergency brake cable is just hanging because the frame holding in place has rusted away and the parking gear doesn't put the car in park so I have to find a flat level surface to park it. But all in all, it's still a good reliable car. I can go on and on but you get the idea.
Those headlights can be cleaned for about 4 dollars, Ed. All you need is a tube of Colgate White toothpaste. Rub it onto the lens, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe away! Crystal clear head light covers!!
Congratulations 🎉 I have a 2007 Prius at 139000. Its just a baby compared to yours. The MPG is fantastic at 40 - 45 per gallon. You've given incentive to keep it till 400K . love you channel ❤
171k miles on my 2012 Camry Hybrid. Great car. Always serviced at the dealer. When it reaches 200k miles, I'll give myself permission to buy another used car or truck and my current Camry will be my spare/beater car.
Congratulations on hitting 400,000 miles that is impressive. However your frugality is clouding your judgement as well as your vision at night with those headlights. You know that it is unsafe for yourself and others. There is NO excuse for not cleaning up / replacing your headlights.
🥳congratulations! I had a friend, she’s passed away now… she had one of those. She got it new and traveled a lot with her job. One day, she said, “a vehicle is just suppose to get you from point a to point b”. Another day we were standing around, again, looking at it in the yard sitting there. It needed a paint job and I asked her how many miles. Seems like it was the same scenario. She said, as she opened the door and showed the bad upholstery,” if I’d of known it would last so long, I’d of taken better care of it!”
hey Edward I have the same 2004 Camry with 147k miles I know it will be joining you on your 400k journey. FYI if you want the seats to last even longer what I did is buy leather seat covers to prevent any stains or smells from any drink spills. Thanks for the video!!
Congrats Edward!, I just bought a 2002 Camry with 206K miles for 4k.( Made in Japan ) I agree, these cars are amazing. Mine is the XLE and all the bells and whistles still work. like it was new. No dents, a couple a rock chips in the front but Like you, I plan to keep it until I at least get another 200K out of it.
Hi Edward….amazing to find your video. I am totally with you on all of your comments about this car. I have a blue one from 2004 that was also manufactured in Japan. I bought it with 209,000 miles on it back at the beginning of 2022 for $2,000 and I have been using it for food deliveries since then and now I’m up to 265,000 miles. Like you I have had to get front wheel bearings replaced and replace the alternator that only recently gave up. I also had a small problem with the locks and driver side window needed a regulator, oh and the power steering cable needed a replacement but all smallish jobs that I was able to do myself. I have the same problem with the roof slightly coming away in the back part but apart from all this and routine oil changes at every 5,000 miles, battery and tires it has been such a great car. Now that I saw your video I am confident that the car is just gonna keep on going. Haven’t changed transmission fluid as I have heard that sometimes changing this can start to cause problems with an older transmission than just leaving it alone. Just wondering what oil you use for your oil changes and how often you do them?? I always use Castrol Edge High Mileage and a Bosch 3325 premium oil filter and always change as soon as that maintenance light comes on although that oil is rated for 10,000 miles I feel that with the older car it’s better to do them more often than not. Totally a great car - starts first time, every time and like you I’m not scared to drive it anywhere because I have so much faith that it will get me there. Most of my driving has been around town, has yours been mainly town or highway?? Have a good day!! Matt 😊😊😊
Your car is still new in the wrapper. You should be able to hit 400k miles just like me. There is no point in trading your car for an inferior more modern vehicle that won't be as reliable long term.
This is a high performance car! Lots of people think that performance means fast or powerful - but it means how it performs for its intended purpose. This car performs very well in its realm. Excessive buying of cars is a wealth killer for the average person. I daily drive a 1998 Lincoln Continental (it has half Edward's car's mileage). I could easily buy a new car - but by my reasoning continuing to drive a reliable fully paid car is like putting another $700 a month into my pocket. Like Edward, I have done almost no repairs to the Lincoln, just very good maintenance.
My 2012 toyota scion has over 160,000 mi on it. Hoping to keep it in decent running condition for a long time. It's my only car. Congratulations on hitting 400k!
My 2003 has 232,000 miles. I take good care of it, and it runs like a sewing machine. It has the original engine and alternator. I only drive it on Saturday.
Pretty certain that's the most excited I've ever heard you, Edward. I adore my 2010 Toyoya, which just hit 120k. But i'll never make it up to your mileage with it as I live in New England and the winters eat away cars here no matter how you try to prevent it. But 14 yo and getting passed on to my teen this summer. It will be a fine first car for her.
I bet the mechanics at the dealership would tell you to keep your Camry, but I get it that sometimes it is nice to change it up. I agree about the Yaris’s, excellent small city cars but difficult to find. Have you looked at Scions? They are also Toyota made and are excellent vehicles if you get the smaller 4 cylinder engine.
Congrats! I got to 120K with my Corolla. I've always thought I could hit 200K Easily. You give a new hope and shed some new light. Maybe if you get to a million miles you can get a free car from Toyota like that guy with the Chevy Truck.
I regret giving my first car to my siblings (mid-90s Civic) and bought an Eagle Talon (basically an Eclipse). That old Civic was great, but as a young guy I wanted something more "sporty", but was absolutely impractical. That Civic eventually was handed down to my brother who promptly wrecked it. They didn't make cars that reliable today and could have saved so much money on dead cars by keeping it.
I just gave you the 400 like👍 my Camry has 240k these cars are insanely reliable.. mosquito spray then wipe with a microfiber cloth will fix the headlights..it's a cheap fix I do to every car I resale
congratulations Ed, my 2013 Toyota's odo points to 73300 miles in 5-7 years, I plan to convert it to an EV.....hopefully it will last for the rest of my life 🤞
An excellent milestone reached. I think I'll change my member picture out for a picture of my odometer(humor) on my 2007 Ford E-250 when it hits 400K miles(fingers crossed..) As I currently understand it, TH-cam doesn't allow photos to be inserted into comments section(Do any members know if/how that can be done?) I can't "brag" about the trans hitting 400,000, as I had to replace the original one at 111,000 miles with a rebuild. I am the original owner of the Ford I own and never expected to get to the current 363,000 mile level, or even close.
Edward that car mite out live all of us! Lol 😆... I had a 1995 Lexus es300 that was pretty much identical to your car. That 3.5 liter v6 is indestructible!!!! My old Lexus went across country from Utah to Maryland and shipped it over seas to Italy with me when I was in the military and back to the u.s 🇺🇸 and owned it from 01 to 2012. Best car i had owned up until My 2010 Honda accord exl with the same 3.5 motor... bullet proof.
Frugal or not, you need to do something with those headlights. A smart person would realize it's a major safety issue. Seeing and being seen is a good thing on the road.
Have same exact year and model. No doubt this vintage made in Japan is superior quality over any American junk Only 150k miles. Had a few issues with springs, wheel bearing and exhaust holes. Some rust has started
You can never go wrong with a Toyota or Honda. I would go with the hybrid next time. You'll really enjoy it. Have you ever had to change the fuel pump on that? Thanks!
Looks to have been garage kept.?..the clear coat on my '07 is peeling..uses a bit of oil as well but runs reasonably well.. i think you're wise to get another good condition used vehicle and avoid the new ones along with the higher insurance rates.. even if you can afford it. Cheers
Hi Edward, you can buy a headlight restoration kit made by Turtle Wax for $13.95 that will remove the oxidation and make the headlights look brand new!
When I was working for a oil changing (Walmart) department I saw quite a few high mile cars roll in. The record was a later '90s something (forget) shortbed Chevrolet truck. It had 900,something miles on its 350 engine. I asked the owner if they were original to the engine. He said yes. Now about the headlights, they are pretty smokey as of now. I'd take 'em to a place that cleans them for a living. You'll see a big difference. They are pretty bad. However, if you want to save money & get some exercise, just start waxing the headlights with a coat of paste car wax. One coat at a time. Wax on, wax off. You'll see a difference around the first 10 coats or so ? Then you can decide for more or not ?
Luckily, I had some Toyota's made here that had lots of problems. My Toyota Matrix was in the shop every other month I had it, I had a major repair right after the manufacturer's warranty ran out, one of the control modules failed, I was lucky and bought the extended warranty, saving me 3,000 dollars. I have a long commute every day, 3 hours in my car so I prefer low-mileage cars. I work in IT, I can't be late and my car having issues could get me fired.
Thats what a green car actually is.....driving it forever.
👍👏
Scotty would be proud
would love to see Scotty check out Edward's car! He'd probably tell him to keep it, they don't make cars like they used to.
Nice car, 🎉🎉🎉😮😮
RIP to Scotty
Wow! My car only has 242,000 miles -- it's practically new.
Congrats on your car hitting 400K Edward!!!
Wow!! If that were my car, I’d keep it at least as a backup for a newer car. It would be hard to say goodbye to such a faithful friend.
I own a 2002 Ford F150 truck with 286,000 miles. Best part, IMO, NO pesky extended warranty calls!
Don't buy new headlights. Take it to Sam's club and they will make them clear and beautiful for $39.99. they will also warranty their work for 5 years. Do it yourself. There are videos online it takes about 20 minutes to do and 5 dollars in tools
I mean another 100000 miles would probably be fine :) Great to see one kept so well.
Congratulations!!! 🎉🎈🎊 This SHOWS you don’t need a FANCY CAR to be SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE ❤❤❤
Yeah, that's nice man. My car has 428000 miles on it.
What kind?
Have an 03 with 220K. Toyota/Lexus customer for life
I’m so stoked! I hope & pray my 2007 Yaris will get to 400k miles. Just looked and my VIN starts with a J too. Congratulations!
You make a ton of great videos but this one was my favorite. Japan-made Toyotas are the best.
That's really cool. I have a 2002 Toyota Highlander still running strong as well.
Cool thing about an old Toyota is if a lady compliments you on your car you know she might be worth talking to. Enjoy shopping at Dollar Tree while it lasts... just read that they're closing 1,000 stores. 😢
Congratulations!!! I’m waiting on my 2007 Corolla Manual in great condition to hit 200k, I got 5k miles to go and I’m very excited to hit it soon
Love my '07 Corolla, 247K for me, runs great! How's the paint holding up on your car?
@@noreenn6976 I got the top layer repaint
That's why I own a Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck.
That's why we just got my daughter a Corolla -- Toyota builds a fine vehicle.

That's amazing! I'm not sure my Mazda will last that long, but I'm going to keep it as long as I can.
Camry and Corolla of that era are incredible indeed.... heck get it detailed, polished .. enjoy another 100k. Congrats
That's what I would do.
That's awesome. For me it's a new car or retire early. I think I'll take the latter. My toyota runs like a champ.
You can buff the headlights out. You don't need to buy new ones.
Stay stacked 💰 and stay jacked💪
Great job taking care of that car Edward. I been dealing with car payments my whole like. I look forward to take care of my vehicles and definitely stay oway from payments from now on. You are a great example for all of us.

They don't build cars like that anymore. They are too reliable. A new Camry will never go those miles

I can't "brag" about the trans hitting 400,000, as I had to replace the original one at 111,000 miles with a rebuild.
The satisfaction 😌 👌
Polish the headlights. It's cheap. You do need to seal the m and repeat every year
My 2002 Suburban has 226K. The 2013 Chevy Cruze has 160k. Both going strong.
Switch cars for what reason? Keep driving that Camry! Looking forward to you making another video at 500k miles some day.
This is so amazing! Testiment to toyota quality.
I would steal that car thanks for the idea
KEEP IT!! Probably go at least another 100k , then you'll make an ever greater milestone.
Scotty’s next video title “I found a car that’s 400k miles and I’m buying it”
My 2005 Camry has 208,000 miles, engine light came on catalic converter, But it still running normal, burn a quart of oil every two months
👏👏🎉🎊 🍾congratulations!!
You can never go wrong with a Toyota or Honda. I would go with the hybrid next time. You'll really enjoy it. Have you ever had to change the fuel pump on that? Thanks!
Wow Edward, one video without Doom and Gloom! Well done!
Looks to have been garage kept.?..the clear coat on my '07 is peeling..uses a bit of oil as well but runs reasonably well.. i think you're wise to get another good condition used vehicle and avoid the new ones along with the higher insurance rates.. even if you can afford it. Cheers
I use rubbing alcohol on my foggy headlights and the clean up good.I've also used toothpaste, lol.
Excellent!!
I think a lot of the new Toyotas have turbos, I’m not a big fan of that I say keep it simple
Keep the car for back up. You never know when you may need it.
Hi Edward, you can buy a headlight restoration kit made by Turtle Wax for $13.95 that will remove the oxidation and make the headlights look brand new!
I used to do the same thing. I would run the tires off of them. Now I buy slightly used cars to get upgraded safety features.
He's the Al Bundy of Economics!🤑
Luckily, I had some Toyota's made here that had lots of problems. My Toyota Matrix was in the shop every other month I had it, I had a major repair right after the manufacturer's warranty ran out, one of the control modules failed, I was lucky and bought the extended warranty, saving me 3,000 dollars. I have a long commute every day, 3 hours in my car so I prefer low-mileage cars. I work in IT, I can't be late and my car having issues could get me fired.
Irv Gordon put 3.25 million on his 66 volvo. It was amazing.
