"‘collective amnesia’ ". Exactly! We are suffering from it. I call it political alzheimer.

What should have been mentioned is the language revolution in Turkey. They basically hijacked the Turkish language taking on Latin isntead of Arabic whilst prohibitng transliterations in the early years of the republic, but more importantly creating nonsense words, just to severe the intellectual ties of the Turkish speakers of Anatolia with their Ottoman past. Both literary and spoken Turkish are filled with words that do not conform to Turkish derviation grammar. Also many of the previously Arabic words have been replaced by French ones. This is a very concise linguistic outlook but youtube comments are not the most fit place for expounding. You would not believe what refined articles, books, journals, government documents lie dead because of that. I as a speaker of unadulterated Turkish am suprised on how succinctly yet poignantly a defense of Islam was done even in casual newspapers. We have to realise the fascist Kamalist governments transgression and put these guys into the long line of cultural oppressors and hijackers of conscience along with Hitler and Mussolini.

The Young Turks were definitely not Islamic based - they were on the border of "dark room" religions(won't mention here). Especially people at the top - there is no way a religious person would try to overthrow the khalifate.
