Thank you so much! This worked except for one thing: the curly brackets around $mail->ErrorInfo on line 51 were giving an error so i changed it to this:
echo "Message could not be sent. Mailer Error: " . $mail->ErrorInfo;
But the email sent perfectly thanks!

Finally it worked sending an email thanks to following stepts from this tutorial 🙂
However, whenever I click the index.php file, I send two instead of one mail. Any hints why this is happening? :-)

You might be hitting the link twice. Otherwise, there is no such thing that sends 2 emails instead of one

@@BroExperts-Tutorials I tried adding a random number to the subject and found out both mails had the same number.
That ruled out that I clicked the link twice. Then I look further in the code and could see I had both the "$mail->Send())" AND the "if ( $mail->Send()) {
echo "Email was sent!";
} else {
echo "Something went wrong...";
}" added to the script. I just eliminated the first one and problem was fixed. Again, thank you so much for this video :-) !

There are many cases for the failure of SMTP connection in PHPMailer and lack of SSL is one of that too. There might be a case, that the Open SSL extension is not enabled in your php.ini which is creating the connection problem. So, try to enable the extension=php_openssl.
