I feel like people who say the techno music ruins the atmosphere are fundamentally misunderstanding what kind of game System Shock 2 is. Sure, the game is supposed to be quiet and tense at times, but it's also a fast-paced, chaotic, fight-or-flight simulator where you are constantly overwhelmed by the mazelike environment and the amount of resources you need to keep track of, all while trying to survive against an onslaught of hybrids, psychic monkeys and brainwashed robots who won't hesitate to end your life unless you end theirs first. The fast-paced techno perfectly captures that feeling of panic as you are thrown into a new and unfamiliar environment full of dangers, and the moment of quiet that comes when you mange to survive the chaos is all the better for it.

I'm playing System Shock 2 for the first time EVER, and I have to agree. Bioshock ferries you along through the story more quickly, but I didn't feel anywhere near as connected to it as I do to SS2. I feel like the environment in SS2 is actually MORE complex and alive than Bioshock, even though the graphics are nowhere near as good. The better the visuals are, the more time it takes to make them and the less time you have to focus on other things. Same thing happened with the new Deus Ex
I never looked at system shock as a horror game but one that implements elements of it. For the most part, to me, the game is about the struggle and the fight for survival. Not the spookys that infest the station.
Or he could by it on Steam. Thereby indicating to the people in charge that players are still interested in this style of game. The soundtrack for this game is very interesting. I considered turning it off as I played through it, but decided against it. That was the greatest decision I made too, because of the atmosphere, when you hear the background music and the random clanks and machinery noises in it, it makes you think there's a midwife nearby or a hybrid running around, so you stop, look around, and the music lulls back down to just the motif, and you realize you're still safe to hack that crate. I love this game.
"I promise not to speed run this game this time."

SHODAN as Polito: Hurry!

@@sleepy-yyy another year later, still ignited
You know what I going to write here, worthless insects.
Babies must rest. Babies must sleep. Wise is the one who does not awaken them.
Leave this place now, or we will wound you, as you have us.
Great stuff. This song will also be great in 10 years.
gentooboy not quite 10 years yet but it's still great
yep, its a classic
you were right
@@gonemaddog WTF man I did this comment 13 years ago? :O
In another 100 years as well
I always considered the music of SS1 and 2 to intensify the fact that you are trapped in a place controlled by something greater than you, and it is CONSTANTLY looking for you :)
Would it be wrong to call this some of THE best Techstep I've ever heard??
I never looked at system shock as a horror game but one that implements elements of it. For the most part, to me, the game is about the struggle and the fight for survival. Not the spookys that infest the station.
This is wonder inducing like the radiation you’re surrounded by.
The tension is palpable, the future is deadly
Excellent work
man listening to this song makes me cry...
*Rad meter pops up*: "Radiation Hazard"
Radiation Hazard.
Or he could by it on Steam. Thereby indicating to the people in charge that players are still interested in this style of game. Perhaps then changing gaming for the better as newer games adopt some of the things that made System Shock great, such as the level of customization, or even the sound design.
...well, I can dream.
that ascending riff is perfect
OUTSTANDING
@Edgebotv4 I can see it now, E3 2012, The room goes dark, and Shodans face appears on all the monitors, and then comes the announcement of the decade.
The many SINGS TO US !
On kvraudio Eric said the synthy parts were made with Juno 60.
i missed you shodan
Yeah !
ERIC BROSIUS makes cool sound for creepy computer games.
Thief, System Shock, Thief 2 the Metal Age, Thief 3 Deadly Shadows, etc.
He started going from midi files and other recordings adding special digital sound effects until he created some real groooooooveee Shit
I totally agree
I love 1. DeuseEX, SystemShock2, DooM1, DooM2
Than... Than... Thank you for choosing Value Rep.
love this godamn song
The soundtrack for this game is very interesting.
I considered turning it off as I played through it, but decided against it.
That was the greatest decision I made too, because of the atmosphere, when you hear the background music and the random clanks and machinery noises in it, it makes you think there's a midwife nearby or a hybrid running around, so you stop, look around, and the music lulls back down to just the motif, and you realize you're still safe to hack that crate.
I love this game.
I usually just lower the volume of it considerably. The tracks are great, but they can be a bit too much at full volume.
thx for the upload o/
