      Ford does the same shit. We spend 30 to 75k on a truck and we dont even get a chance to fill out an ownership surveu to the manufacturer. There lack of interest was obvious whe i traded a 2012 f150 in for a 2018. 26k miles later i traded 2018 back in for a 2013....and im very happy. These companies r way out of touch!

    Biggest pro of the truck is the addition of rear AC vents. I like the G80 is standard. Sure it's not a full locker but the fact that it is standard is huge. I think the grille design might scare away a lot of customers. In your opinion Tim, is the 6.6 gas really that big of an improvement over the 6.0 vortec? Jeff is a good co host by the way.

    First time here and I am considering the new 2020 400/6.6 gas. I tow every day with GMC 2500 HD 2wd ext lb, only slight changes between the Chevy, according to an engineer I spoke with @ NAIAS. My current '07, '11 GMCs are 6.0 gas returning 18 & 16 mpg highway respectively empty. Also have a loaded - tow package '17 GMC 1500 crew 6.6 box, 6.2 with 8 speed returns 25 mpgs. I didn't hear a thing about MPG. Wanted to hear how the 6 speed responded. If GM is listening, would like the 8' box available on more 1500s. On comfort, gotta haves are sunroof, climate seats, heated steering and I do like the tow package mirrors. Love to have a larger display screen, but not the huge screen found in the Ram. On Chevy's new 'fist in your face' design, I like it in certain colors and my wife surprisingly loves the Chevy HD

      I have concerns about that, the top part of the engine has these big looking tubes. air moves at 100mph in there helping or preventing unused fuel and oil getting to the back of the valve. if that is true, and it actually works to prevent gunk on back of the valve, that would be awesome. Im 50/50 on this 6.6 gas, maybe it is possible to add a catch can?? also i hear that turbo gdi direct engines are more prone to gunk valve buildup, due to high heat.

    • @racerboi77j
      @racerboi77j 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@salguzman7840 turbocharged GDI engines have significantly more blow-by due to the higher cylinder pressures. And turbo seals have a nasty tendency to leak oil by. Leading to a bit of double-trouble.

    • @racerboi77j
      @racerboi77j 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Pickuptrucktalk I am highly skeptical of this kind of application of GDI. With the typical operating condition of this class of vehicle, engines spend a lot of time at high-load, low rpm conditions. Because of when fuel is injected into the cylinder in GDI, when there is low intake air velocity, it has a hard time atomizing before combustion. I would be worried about cylinder wash-down and excessive oil dilution. Plus, running an engine hard increases the amount of blowby going through the PCV. I would love to be proven wrong, but I am going with a tried and true Ford 6.2 for 2020.

A few days ago I saw this Realtor dude Slipping out of a totally decked out brand new F250 king ranch. He was so pretty his designer boots were cleaner than my hands. And I’m thinking this is why trucks are made the way they are today because of this guy that has the money to buy 5 of them And have one to drive each day of the week. It's a Custom trim which means it's heavily de-contented. That content includes storage bins, USB ports, cup holders, keyless entry, insturment cluster, and other features. Most retail customers won't even consider a Custom trim because they're basically a fleet special. Same with the keyed ignition. The LT trim would be the typical entry-level trim for a retail buyer and those trucks have keyless ignition, 8 inch touchscreen, all the cup holders, tons of USB ports, etc.

    Something that always irks me on these HD test drives when they comment on how smooth the ride is, they always mention the torsion bar suspension. Like it's something new on chevy trucks. Come on! They've only had torsion bar suspensions on chevy's for about 30+ years guys. And they go on about how smooth it rides empty... Well I notice that the vast majority of these road tests are done in the area of Bend, OR which if you don't know that area has some of the smoothest and best maintained highways in the entire nation (I drive hwy 97 straight through the middle of that area 2 or 3 times/year. It's one of my favorite stretches of road, rain, shine, or snow). So if you're going to demonstrate just how smooth it is empty how about throwing the wheel on the next forest service road you pass and run it down some washboard on those 10-ply tires for a couple miles? THEN I'll listen to what you have to say about smoooooth

      Solid criticism. I can only speak to what I experience on the drive where I am at right then. I'll get another one this Spring and drive it on the crap roads of Nebraska then put a video up on that. And yep, you are right about the independent front suspension. My '62 has it. The reason we bring it up is for people to be aware that Chevy is the only one that offers it in the HD trucks. While many of us know this already, not everyone does and it is important, IMO, to point it out for people shopping for a new truck.

And I'll look forward to your post coming from Nebraska- I myself live 5 miles off pavement 1,300 ft above where the highway ends, so there's no avoiding washboard. 4WD certainly minimizes the drift but it's still pretty harsh. • @Pickuptrucktalk
      @Pickuptrucktalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Some will claim the IFS isn't as durable, but Ram and Ford solid front axle trucks tend to chew up ball joints as fast or faster than heavy duty trucks with IFS. The ball joints on a solid axle get hammered due to the unsprung weight. Ram trucks are infamous for going through u-joints. Another downside of solid front axle trucks is that as the front suspension components wear, it gets loose and more vulnerable to death wobble. Like these very new F-250's, which are already having issues with death wobble...

They are dogs when towing anything...anything. I could put a 16 ft trailer on it hauling my kids tricycle and this thing has to redline up hills here in WV. I don't want the hassle, maintenance, cost of a diesel. The 8.1 had good power/torque. Great transmissions. Retooled, it would compete with the soon to be released Ford 7.3L gas.

I am thinking that the Gasoline Direct Injection is going to be a severe liability for a truck of this segment. Not only is there the ever-present issue of coking of the intake valves, but there is also potential for severe oil dilution with gasoline, given the low-speed, high load conditions that will typically be found in gasoline engines. GDI engines are horrible about fuel and air mixing whenever at low speed, high load situations because of the lack of intake air velocity and the short period of time in which fuel has to atomize after injection.

The brake and fuel lines will rust out in 10 years or less like all GM vehicles. If they lowered the height, they wouldn't need a step to reach into the bed. A heavy duty should have heavy duty brakes but instead they have barely adequate brakes. The "styling" is ugly and it must push a lot of air. I want the key myself. You want to wait in an emergency to shut off the ignition switch? Wait till someone dies in an accident cause they couldn't stop the fuel pump from pumping cause they were forced to hold the button to stop the engine while a cracked fuel line is spraying fuel on hot exhaust or leaking plug wires. And they are injured at the same time. As dumb an idea as eliminating a shift cable in favor of electric shifter. Think of Toyota and throttle actuators. If a electrical problem holds throttle open I want as much control as I already have in my Suburban. If I turn key back and it won't kill the engine cause of a short. That is when I turn the key back. I can throw it in neutral and let the engine bounce off the rev limiter. I have seen cars with a shifter stalk but appear to have no direct cable to valve body. How many people are going to die before people get smart and realize The NHTSA came up with PRND for a reason.

      Lots of people were affected by the keyed ignition nightmare GM went through a few years ago as well. So, there is a counter viewpoint as well.

      I am a GM brat myself and worked in a Chevy dealership to. They would shut off at inopportune times. I even did Predelivery inspect on push button start Cadillac's Or Vettes. Can't remember which it was now. I have had cable actuated carburetors Stick WOT in my life. Thank god I didn't have to wait for the PCM to decide to shut off the engine. The whole thing here is we should learn from the past. Push button start and shifting isn't a new concept. Wait till enough people die cause they can't simply turn the electrical things off. Or if there's a short from a collision you can't at least slap it into neutral cause of cable less shifting. After a throttle motor gets shorted. Not to mention no mechanical link to the parking pawl in the transmission or valve body. All I see is a repeat of Fords backing over people coming out of park. Except this time it will be an electrical issue that should of never happened. What next no steering cause it's a steer by wire. And the battery and alternator malfunctioned. Run over garbage in the road and take out something electrical to loose your throttle, steering and electric brakes to? Might as well have electric seatbelt unlocks to and kill a few people to. I'm a tech nut myself. But I'm also been a mechanic long enough to know What can go wrong most likely will. I know a lot of people don't agree with my few on the subject. But I want to die Knowing I at least had a chance to try and avoid my death.

      Clint Helling I’m pretty sure that if airbags deploy, in newer trucks the fuel pump is automatically cut. Also, the engine has auto demobilization feature. Been like that for like 10 years now lol

      @@Pickuptrucktalk that ignition switch debacle is evidence of the times. I have personally owned 3 vehicles tallying over 600,000miles on the "bad" Ignition switches and I never had a single issue with them.. 100% of those "affected" Can honorably be blamed on user error. Over loaded key chains, improper seating positions etc. That entire thing was ridiculous

    • @Pickuptrucktalk
      @Pickuptrucktalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No doubt the overloaded key chains played a role. However, there was also some negligence on GM’s part and Delphi that should have never happened. Keyless entry and push button ignition are just so convenient these days. I’m sure there will be problems with it eventually, but for now, I’m a fan. Note: that could change!

    Gotta love the bitching about the G80 vs Elocker.. Id rather have a G80 than rely on the elocker components, connectors, wiring harness, fuse and relay and switch to get me out of a bind. Have a fleet of Ford HDs at work with the elockers, its all good till it doesnt work n basically you have a 2wd in 4hi. The G80 will work forever with no driver input . Keep the elocker, I doubt most will ever leave the Walmart parking lot anyways.

      Todd Norhton Yeah I have noticed that he gets mixed up on which engines he’s talking about a lot. He said in another video the 6.6 duramax has a timing belt. Then said it didn’t, then corrected himself and said he checked and it did. So sometimes you just have to wonder what on earth he’s talking about lol

      Umm... sorry! That stuff that comes out of my mouth.
      On the timing chain, it turns out I wasn’t the only one making that mistake. In the Chevy small block video, the engineer got them mixed up.
      The 3.0L has a timing chain, the Duramax has a belt. Hopefully that helps clear things up.

      Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk That is, once again, wrong. The 3.0 duramax has a timing chain, and a small wet belt driving the OIL PUMP only. The 6.6 Duramax has a GEAR DRIVEN TIMING SYSTEM ...I don’t understand how you get these mixed up and have seen them first hand.
