I was really worried that bringing Cayde back would ruin the most meaningful story choice the game has ever made by erasing its impact. Walking back the tone shift that saved the game for the sake of nostalgia points. But they somehow made it better. A man who had his fate chosen for him his whole life, from being forced into becoming an exo, resurrected by a ghost without his own say, getting roped into a vanguard job he didn’t want, and dying a death he didn’t deserve; he gets to show us that we can make our own fate and choose the meaning our life has. He finally got his chance to choose, and he chose us.

This cutscene actually brought a tear to my eye, and it started when I heard that piano motif at the beginning and then again at the end, it brought me back to my most prominent memory of D1, sitting on the deck of a Ketch after gathering all the pieces for my Khvostov in Rise of Iron, and sharing that moment with my ghost, it was the kind of emotional tug I don't think any game has ever given me save for maybe FFXV

Remembrance might as well be our sweethearted little ghosts’ theme. He is Devoted, Brave, and Sacrificial to the point of death. He is a guardian more than most, all on his own. Imagine if Dinklage still voiced him 😂 North is excellent.

In case you don't know, the soundtrack used in this cutscene is called "Remembrance"

when I heard it I immediately gasped and was like "NO WAY THEY USED TAKEN KING MUSIC FOR THIS"
a bit bummed that they recycled it but honestly I don't mind because it fit the mood so perfectly

@MidoriSaibaa If this knowledge is of any help, Mike re-recorded playing those Remembrance parts himself for that cutscene. None of the original Taken King Remembrance recordings were repurposed in that recording. :)

That final smile he gives you at the last moment says it all.

My introduction to D2 was during Witch Queen, with one of my earliest profound moments was at the Tower, listening to Hymn while staring up at the Traveler for the first time. Cayde's sacrifice ending with the same tune was more than I could ever ask for in that moment, or deserve compared to the myriad of soundtracks that came before WQ. For me it was perfect.

We can all agree that 2:13 is actualy the past part of the cutscene and if you all had removed your guardien’s helmet, you get see how emotional our guardien was, of seeing our ghost die, pleedign traveler to resurcet back our Ghost, but nothing is even more painfull, sorrowfull but also with hope when Cayde Sacrifice his Light and the Lighh of the Traveler that flows through him to bring our Ghost back and how the music when Cayde says ”You’re my favorit. Don’t ever forget that” Realy made me want to cry. You can even hear in Cayde’s voice he was about to cry, knowing what he’s about to do is a good thing when he decided what his fate should be

I never have the helmet in cutscenes. I record them all for posterity.
