LORE - Silent Hill Lore in a Minute!
Silent Hill, a quaint little town in Maine, New England, was a scenic resort area until people started disappearing or dying in the lake nearby. Then the people responsible for promoting the town as a family-friendly tourist destination turned up dead. The townsfolk believed that these deaths were tied to a doomsday cult known as The Order, who believed bringing about the apocalypse was their ticket to Paradise and a more profitable tourism department.
The priestess of The Order, Dahlia Gillespie, birthed a daughter with paranormal powers. Believing her daugther, Alessa, to be linked to The Order's god, she decided the best way to bring her god to Silent Hill was to impregnate her 7-year old by ritual of fire. Dahlia set fire to their home with Alessa trapped inside. Alessa survived but the seed had been planted - Dahlia would soon be a grandmother.
The Order nursed her wounds but Alessa refused to deliver their god. Using her paranormal powers, she split her soul in two, one half remaining with her body and the other inexplicably appearing in the form of a precious newborn. Found and adopted by Harry Mason and his wife, they named her Cheryl. Harry and Cheryl eventually return to Silent Hill, and upon their arrival, Cheryl triggers Alessa's reality-bending powers, shrouding Silent Hill in a mysterious fog. After swerving to avoid a young girl in the road, Harry crashes his car and is knocked unconscious. Harry wakes up to find Cheryl missing and is forced to venture into Silent Hill to search for his daughter.

Hey guys, I'm the artist for Lore. In response to comments about the fire: The summoning ritual Dahlia was attempting to perform involved fire, which got out of control and burned the house and Alessa. (That comes from a SH book Konami published in 1999--look up "Silent Hill Koshiki Guidebook" for more.) The exploding boiler story is simply a cover-up, probably given to the authorities by Dahlia or another member of the Order. How the flamethrower was involved is for you to decide.

i know that Silent Hill Mythology is "murky" to say the least but Alyssa's house burning down was likely the result of a boiler-exploding from Alyssa's psychic powers lashing out when she panicked during the impregnation ritual. When it is claimed in later games that Dahlia offered up her daughter as a sacrifice, it is likely that that is a sacrifice of her spirit and not of her body. Clearly they tried to keep her alive after being burned nearly to death; as such, it stands to reason they did not want her dead and it seems odd that to that end, they would burn her so.
Also Silent Hill is build on Indian Burial grounds if I recall. This introduces the supernatural spiritual attributes of Silent Hill. Alyssa is psychic and amplifies the "spiritual power" that exists in Silent Hill thus projecting the "Other World" unto the town as she is being tormented by that same spiritual presence. I don't think the fog has anything to do with Alyssa or her other half, Cheryl. Alyssa simply is a tormented soul who is unwittingly projecting her nightmare unto the town. This creates the realm known as the "Other World".
James Sutherland is also a tormented soul in his own rite. His nightmare was a bit more personal as it manifests in the shape of pyramid head and being forced to watch Maria get killed repeated as a form of self-torment. It's logical to conclude that all the monsters he encountered are also manifestations of his and the other characters' -that he was with at the time- minds; thus demonstrating that Alyssa is not the only one who can project a demonic reality into the world with this "spiritual power".
Considering the disturbing and violent nature of the manifestations and the reincarnates of the cult's "god" that are produced (Baphomet in the first game and some twisted image of Alyssa in the third), one would conclude that the spiritual power and presence in Silent Hill are demonic. This is also demonstrated in Silent Hill 2 by the little girl- whose name I can not remember- who is likely representative of an pure soul-unfettered by guilt and torment - never actually encounters or is targeted by any monsters on her own.
The only other thing I would mention is that in Silent Hill 3 when "the cult" was given the name The Order, it is likely that was a liberty taken in translation that was latter ret-conned into the series by other developers long after Team Silent had disbanded. It's not a bad name though.
Conclusion: Alyssa was not burned on purpose and those people in the cult are crazy to want to worship a demon they call "god".

The fire in the Gillespie house wasn't on purpose, it was Alessa's heightened stress level from a separate ritual taking place. Her powers mixed with her heightened stress and caused the boiler to explode by accident. There's an article in the clipped newspaper in the first game that proves this, but it's only found in the European and Japanese versions of the game. The EU and JA versions were made after the US version, so either they didn't have to time to originally include it, or they forgot and added it in afterwards. If you only have the US version (as I do), there's no way to know unless you find the info about the other versions. For over 10 years I wondered what it was until a few years ago when I found it.
Edit: The Koshiki guidebook was made by Konami themselves but did not involve the original writers of the story of Silent Hill and should not be taken as lore explanation. Some of the original writers of Silent Hill were even asked what the original intent was, either boiler explosion or ritual, and they simply respond “boiler explosion” so the idea that the boiler explosion was a coverup simply isn’t true. If Konami disagrees with the original writers, it means Konami is wrong.
This also worries me about the Silent Hill media being released now in 2023-2024, but I still stand by this comment I made 9 years ago. Without Hiroyuki Owaku and Keiichiro Toyama, Konami can not be trusted to understand Silent Hill and all of their SH media that has been released since after SH4 can only really be taken as fan fiction, which includes the movies, comics, every game starting with Origins and afterwards, and these new games being made now.
I know a lot of people rare going to ignore me on this and argue against it, but I would just say that they are in denial and don’t want to let go of Silent Hill, which I didn’t want to either, but I only consider SH 1-4 to be the only real SH media, and everything else is interesting at most (I genuinely enjoy Origins but it’s not a real SH game), and simply trash at worst (Book of Memories never should have existed).

That’s actually just a theory and the only thing that supports it is that the fire might have happened in the basement which led the fire department to believe it was the boiler, when in actuality, Dahlia performed the ritual on Alessa in the basement (rather than in the second floor like Origins portrayed it)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the fire that maimed Alessa an accident and not intended by the cult? I remember hearing something about how there was a script error in the American release of the first Silent Hill game that resulted in an in-game news article detailing that the fire was shown to have been due to the boiler of her house exploding being omitted.
What I heard is that during the ritual to impregnate Alessa with their god, the cult had scared her enough that her psychic powers caused the boiler to explode, resulting in the events of the game.

Hold up there's a mistake here. Dahlia did not burn the house down with Alessa in it. During the ritual to impregnated her, Alessa's heighten stress levels caused a boiler explosion that burned the house down. There's a memo that does not appear in the North American or Japanese version of the game because of a faulty piece of code but it does in the European release of the game after it was patched. Also this coincides with the manifestation of delusions article. If you wish to understand it better check out Twin Perfect's The Real Silent Hill Experience P4 for more info.

nintendude8VG is right, the legend of Slendermen has been around since the early 1500's. It basicly states that Slenderman or der Grobmann (the tall man) was a fairy that lived in the Black Forest. He would chase bad kids who wandered into the forest at night until he either caught them or they told their parents that they were bad. The charactistic suit was added when he was recently revived as an urban legend.

It gets to know who you really are then uses this information to change itself. It uses its knowledge against you, creating your own personal nightmare.
This game plays you as much as you play it.

Fans generally think a lot of things, like the second Pyramid Head represents Eddie (it represents Maria), SH4 originally not going to be part of the series (it always was), Alessa being the cause of the town's curse (town had mysterious powers before that), etc. I wouldn't put much faith in general beliefs.

    Hes also known as: Red Pyramid Thing, Red Pyramid, or Bogeyman. In Japanese: 三角頭 (Sankaku Atama) Pyramid Head represents James' wish to be punished for Mary's death. Known for his large triangular head, Pyramid Head lacks a voice, and his appearance stems from the "distorted memory of the executioners" and the town's past as a place of execution. So yeah, I hope this helps ;o;

Dahlia did not birth Alessa, unlike _Origins_ tried to claim. She adopted Alessa from the Hope/Wish House Orphanage, as clarified in _SH3_. Also, it's debatable whether the fire that burned Alessa was intentional. A flashback in _SH1_'s Nowhere-which showed Dahlia, Kaufmann, and others discussing Alessa's care and The Order's plan of action-starts with Dahlia claiming "Everything's going according to plan," but continues with them all panicking as if they did not anticipate Alessa's immolation.

Well, yeah. That's what Silent Hill is at its core (besides a monster-ridden gateway to Hell). Everyone who is drawn to Silent Hill is searching for something; whether it's a person (Like Harry Mason and James Sunderland), the truth of their heritage (Heather Mason), or a way to face the guilt from something they'd done (Murphy Pendleton, from Downpour).
And Silent Hill won't let you leave until you've either found what you're looking for, or you die.

As already stated by countless comments, the ritual did involve fire but not in the form of THE fire that burned Alessa, which was caused by her powers blowing up the boiler and if anything put an end to the attempted ritual. Also, at 0:22, you showed the members of the cult gathered around the Seal of Metatron, as if to imply that it's their symbol or that it's related to their evil plans, which is not the case: the Seal of Metatron is called Mark of Samael by Dahlia only because she needs to lie to Harry and convince him that Alessa is going around the town spreading an evil symbol which is causing what Harry calls the "otherworld" to manifest, but the truth is Alessa is planting that symbol in an attempt to contain or stop what's going on in Silent Hill (we will never know what it would have accomplished precisely, since Harry accidentally stops her plan with the Flauros). You may also recall the first line of Dahlia before the final battle "I was shocked to realize the Seal of Metatron was being used." and the fact that Heather and Vincent try to use it AGAINST the cult once again in Silent Hill 3, but fail because they have no clue on how it's supposed to be used.

***** Silent Hll Origins is non-canon, it wasn't made by Team Silent and it followed its own erroneous interpretation of the story. I don't really understand what you're saying at the end, but if you mean that every Silent Hill protagonist creates the monsters in their respective game that is also wrong: Silent Hill 1 monsters come from Alessa's subconscious, not Harry's; Silent Hill 2's monsters come from James' subconscious and that's pretty much the only case; Silent Hill 3's ones are created by Claudia if I remember correctly, and 4's are created by either Walter or weird occult power that is animating the victims of Walter, I'm not sure, but they're definitely not Henry's.

The mother of Alessa din't burned the house. It was Alessa herself when her mother was doing a cult in the house. Alessa stress, manipulated her Psychic power and Made the boiler room exploded and burn her house and the 6 house more. As found on a article on the Japanese and Pal version of the game

The creation of “Slender Man” may have been also inspired by an ongoing series of amateur adventure games titled “Chzo Mythos”, published by Ben ‘Yahtzee’ Croshaw in 2003. In the games, one of the main vilains is called “Cabadath” and is sometimes referred to as “Tall Man.”

If I remember right, Alessa was actively tortured by her mother without pause for all or nearly all of her life. I think a nurse said her wounds were 'so horrible' and that they 'just never healed'. I'm pretty sure the torture was mystically created.

Alessa has psychokinetic powers which were heightened during the impregnation ritual. As it is written on a memo in Silent Hill itself.. "Negative emotions, like fear, worry or stress manifest into external energy with physical effects."
If she has the ability to destroy roads, shift buildings and create monsters, I don't find it too far fetched that she could rupture a boiler in an old farm house! Besides, why would Dahlia (or whoever else) want to kill Alessa if they're trying to birth a god?

Fire doesn't necessarily have to murder. It can be used as torture device to inflict pain. You can burn a person and monitor them enough to ensure they're still alive.
"That was the young woman burned by her mother as a sacrifice to God" "God, a fetus nestled into this sacrificial girl's womb, was summoned with the usual rites." "In another sacrificial rite mentioned in the same book, the victim is burned alive. "
The boiler was a likely a scapegoat. It's called a cover up to hide truth.
