Did it this week. I'm definitely not in great physical shape, but I still managed to pass with a decent time. It's all about pacing. Don't ever sprint, keep a steady jogging pace the whole time and you will pass with plenty of time. You have 3:30 to do it. Trust me, it is plenty of time as long as you just keep going. The fence is probably the most difficult obstacle. It's caved in from thousands of people climbing it. They suggested we kick our shoes off and dig our toes in to get over. That worked perfect for me. Also don't underestimate that water jump. By that point your legs are shot and you are liable to fall in. If you want to prepare, this test is almost zero strength. Its almost exclusively cardio and leg endurance. What helped me was jogging about a 1/4 mile, and at set intervals doing about 3-5 burpees to simulate an obstacle. Then took an old riding mower and pulled it backwards for about 10 yards to simulate a dummy drag. Do something similar once or twice a week leading up to this and you'll be golden. 10 minutes of training goes a long long way.
Took this test today. Passed. Make sure you are in shape. It doesn’t look bad but but it will wear you out fast. Good luck. My best advice run a lot to prepare.

I was fortunate to have been invited to the agility test and first round interview. Although I passed i was not selected as a candidate. Despite this I learned many things about myself during the process. To the men and women who were selected God Bless You!!! Life is not a destination, but a journey. Highway patrol is a great job but don't expect to get past the agility course and interviews if there are a ton of younger people with military, college, or law enforcement backgrounds. Remember you would be applying for a state job, the state operated like a machine, and it is nothing personal it is bulk screening from HR people pushing buttons on a computer.

Disclaimer: Don't be a white 26 y/o male. I've maintained a relatively peak physical condition for roughly around 20 years of my life. I'm not interesting in bragging or boasting- but out of the roughly estimated (recollected) 50-60 candidates that I performed the obstacle course amongst, it would be a farfetched idea that I didn't perform amongst the top tier.. I've trained a majority of my life to be a scholar and peak physical competitor within a multitude of combat sports. In these sports you learn much of humility, will, and sheer determination. My self-discipline is elite. My integrity upmost. My faith ground. My intellect above par. My work ethic positive. dependable, trust worthy, and loyal. I worked diligently to acquire these traits. As a Christian these are traits I hold dear in order to live in a Christlike manner. I known who I am- and I have known the the values I hold dear, without question, for over a decade. I took the obstacle course, went through the screening process, and returned home to my residence a couple hours away to the TN GA border...friends... A week later I received mail confirmation that I was considered an UNFIT candidate for the position as a Trooper. Understand, my hope was to serve and protect with upmost rectitude, as it still remains today. (I breed and supply Doberman Pinschers now, praise God.) Hindsight is 20/20. I unfortunately see now who these dictators hired... Unphysically fit, incompetent, ungodly men and women. With all due respect to men and women- weaker men and women. I believe they do this in order to be able to brainwash their force. I suppose you can compare it to a militaristic type training- with due order to deconstruct and rebuild them in a manner they see fit, for lack of a better word. One man CAN make a difference, and I would have made a difference for you THP. But the difference I would have made, seemingly, would have been counter productive to your agenda, if I may so speak to the THP as an entity. My moral of the story is this- if you are someone confidently worth your salt, bypass this profession. They don't want someone serene, composed, and battle-tested. This is for controllable, ungrounded, unjust men and women. This is the devils work. Let me explain. Men and women in this field are taught to lie and to deceive- and that is the truth. I successfully completed the course 3 years in a row as a potential candidate, I was 300+ pounds. The hardest part of the course was the cold 6am morning air and slippery ground. If I could do it in my opinion anyone can. They don’t tell you a time limit but if you go at a steady pace you’ll make it.
I tried, I failed, but I’m better for it. I will work harder to achieve better cardio and balance. I will succeed next time. I will join Tennessee Highway Patrol, or die trying.

Also if you have any health problems be sure to bring your emergency meds, as I had an asthma attack. I was humbled today but I will get back on the horse and become a trooper if it’s the last thing I do.
I’d like to see the obstacle course a recurring required event instead of a one time qualifier. Perhaps we’d have fewer out of shape overweight troopers and they’d have more self respect which would spillover to treating the public with respect. This is an archaic event proving nothing of import other than perhaps a skewed artificial laboratory measure of physical fitness (more important for those already in the ranks and coasting). I've applied twice while at my agency in Memphis..once while I was a L.E.O. and the other when I left..took the test at the Uof M.I forgot what my ranking was statewide I never heard from them..I just figured it was a good ole boy network or you needed to know someone to get in.never applied again..waste of my time and the ink I used on the app..I went back to my agency and retired as a lieutenant .They dont know what a good officer is and was at that time.the ones I see now on the interstate just sit at construction sites with their lamps on asleep while people race on the expressway endangering the workers lives.Im glad they didnt hire me because when they would assist us in Memphis most of them didnt know shit from shinola,
So you have to do this agility test along with One Minute Sit Ups- 37 repetitions One-Minute Push Ups - 35 repetitions 300 Meter Run - 58.9 sec or less 1.5 Mile Run - 13:58 or less So you half to pass 2 agility test.
@@Takenhandle07 there is one before you ever get started with the hiring process which is the one he it talking about here. At the end of the hiring process, before you go to trooper school, you have to successfully complete the obstacle course in under the time given. The first agility test is to start the process, the last is to qualify for trooper school.
