  • @adwhitex

    I picked up tenacity to deal with my poa and it definitely stressed my lawn on both applications with the bottle rate. Was and is still painful to see a it's still recovering. Seeded from scratch last fall with Scott's sun and share mix. Will have to search for any input on how to minimize this.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would space out the applications more, and perhaps apply at a lighter rate. Also be sure to water the lawn thoroughly now that it's stressed.

    Great advice telling folks to avoid the granular stuff; it requires too much luck. I use Speed Zone and it's an absolute beast of a herbicide even in cooler weather. The initial cost is higher, but it's a whole lot cheaper in the long run because it has 4 killing actions and it's higher in potency, therefore requiring less applications. Also, I've seen a video showing that growth regulator has worked to suppress that Poa stuff.

    • @GrassDaddy

    • @Zoetropeification
      @Zoetropeification 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree. If you can smell it you are breathing it into your lungs. I used to never bother with a mask or breather. Always wore gloves, sunglasses, long pants and boots. But I am even more cautious these days and usually wear a mask unless it's just a quick spot spray. The whole glphosate cancer thing is worth noting.

      If you're getting the stuff all over the place, all over your body, all over your clothes.... good bet you're doing something seriously wrong. Time to rethink you're methods. At the levels home owners use this stuff, reasonable contact is not going to be an issue. The issues are going to surround farmers who use hundreds or thousands of gallons of herbicides.

    • @jckclt
      @jckclt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the weeds. You need to identify the weeds first, and then get the right chemicals. Clover, crabgrass and chickweed are probably the ones you have. You'll most likely need at least two products. Buy a 2 gallon pump sprayer and get speedzone and bioadvanced all in one concentrate with crabgrass killer. Combine in sprayer with a little dishsoap and spot spray after the sun goes down and no rain in the forecast for 72 hours

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same concepts apply! Just goto your local hardware store and look for products that say for southern lawns. There are a few brands that have some. First step would be to find the one that has the most weeds it can kill at a time (roundup for southern lawns or weed be gone for southern lawns, etc)

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only one I know of is tenacity. Otherwise you have to wait for 3-4 mowings before spraying. However usually the new lawn will thicken over time so if you wait a bit and then kill it should fill in any gaps.

    what is the best way to kill weed (also other types of vegetation growing) on a gravel type of lawn? I don't have any grass just these weeds patches growing over my gravel. I tried using a vinegar based natural product but I honestly don't think it did the job! Any suggestions? thanks

    I have been using speedzone and tenacity mixed in one tank, been having great results.

    • @Zoetropeification

      When I use tenacity on my wild violet everything turns white for a few weeks. Then the wild violet is just as strong as before. Hit it again, everything white for a bit and then the wild violet still there. Hit ti four times last year, wild violet still there.

      @@Zoetropeification speedzone is labeled to work on wild violet. By tank mixing the 2 together you have a one two punch against a lot of weeds.

    Very good in depth video! However, I feel like Tenacity should have gotten more love because that stuff just works. It is by far the best weed killer I've ever used especially when considering a blanket spray. I follow the exact app rate on the label and never have any issues with it hurting my TTTF. It can be used mostly anytime, but also very effective when overseeding in the fall. I've been using it for 3+ years and highly recommend it with a pump or backpack sprayer.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There has been a trend for using Tenacity for everything but I feel it's best to use it just for the weeds the others can't. There is a limit to how much you should apply to your lawn each year.

    • @GeneralFrankenberry
      @GeneralFrankenberry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrassDaddy agreed. I'd recommend others not using it in the summer as it can really stress the lawn out during the heat. My favorite time to use it is in the fall especially during a reseed.

    The Roundup with nutsedge “Killer” only contains 0.015% sulfentrazone? What else is in it to aid in the actual killing instead of stunting the nutsedge?

    Quick Tip: Do not use any of those products on your southern lawns, unless it is your intention to kill the grass as well. This is cool season only. Hope this helps.
