I've owned a couple of Walthers, but had an SR22 in my hands at a gunshow today and she really looked and felt good. Think I'm going to go for the Ruger.
J P Excellent decision, and very easy to find accessories for it. I've had one for 4 years and it still shoots all types of .22lr. It is capable of 1" groups or better at 15 yds with several popular brands. IMO this is a fun reliable accurate plinker, and you get the Ruger guarantee...either way you go, enjoy.
Got a p22 in 2010 for my wife's small hands. It was ergonomically excellent, and it helped my kids get a lot of experience clearing jams. Sold it. (Never tried the upgraded version.) Got an sr22 last month. It feels smoother and more solid. Gonna keep this one.
Really like the fact that you guys are just sharing your honest opinions and acquired information. Felt like just sitting down chatting with the guys about what we like/dislike without bashing a manufacturer. Just bought a P22 and hoping to put some rounds through it this weekend.
My dad has the SR22 and so does my friends dad. They are awesome little guns. They are very accurate and reliable and extremely fun to shoot. Walther may have come out with it first but Ruger perfected it and made it more affordable.
I’ve had a p22 for 12-13 years. I walked into my local gun store when Smith&Wesson was importing the p22, fell in love with it and ordered one on the spot and have never regretted it. The original p22 that I had was fairly choosy about ammunition, definitely preferring quality brands. Several months ago it began having continuous ejection problems regardless of what ammunition I fed it. I called Walther and they emailed me a return authorization and shipping label that day. I sent it back and in less than 2 weeks received a brand new p22q as a replacement. Everything was at Walther’s expense under their warranty. I cannot say enough about their service and warranty. I have always loved my p22 and now love my p22q and unreservedly recommend Walther. It is a dream to shoot and, with a little practice as easy to take apart, clean and return to service as any gun I’ve ever owned. Great gun, great company. Robert Haldi
Love my p22. Shoots great and my 110lb wife can practice all day long with it. And it has never jammed, no matter what brand of ammo I've stuffed through it.
God Bless you guys, your ability to explain and decode all the dos and don't as well as the problems or better features of the guns you discuss has improved my ability to chose when purchasing a used gun at at a gun show. Thank you, Mike
The walther P22 went through a revision recently that negates the problems with feeding some kinds of ammo and has added a de-cocker. Id love to see a side by side using the newest versions of both pistols.
I own a P22, know multiple people with both and the Ruger is more reliable out of the box from what I see. At least, in comparison to the 1st Gen P22.....
It easy to see by the high number of views for a video thats only been up a few hours...y'all really do make some of the best gun videos on you tube! Thanks for all you do. I envy your local customers.
22 more reasons to get a revolver I love my Smith & Wesson model 686 357 Magnum no feeding issues no misfire issues I point this thing at you and you will s*** yourself
My brother actually wore out a p22 slide because it is some kind of Zamak alloy. The slide release wore through slide after 10 thousand rounds and exposed a steel pin in the slide at that point and that is where the frame cracked. On the positive side that pistol was extremely accurate and very easy to use.
I would love to hear them do this review again, now that it's been almost 3 years. Based on all the recent research I've done, I'm pretty sure most people would choose the SR22 over the P22 today (unless they're just huge Walther fans). Just like the LCP being a copy of the Kel Tech but becoming better than the Kel Tech, I believe the SR22 has become better than the P22 even though it's a copy. Got to give Ruger credit there. They're good at improving pre-existing designs.
+Forrest Metzger I agree. The Ruger (especially considering the price and +1 mag) has probably surpassed the Walther. However, in California you can't get the Ruger, and the Walther is a good starter pistol, or training pistol if you want to graduate to the PPQ.
Joe Barry Ugh. So you could get them initially when they came out. California has a "handgun roster", and each handgun gets certified for sale for a certain amount of time (usually a few years). It is expensive for manufacturers to comply with all the testing it takes to get on the list. Once it falls off, you have to re-submit. If you make *any* changes to the firearm, even aesthetic ones, you have to re-submit. I'm pretty sure the SR22 got an aesthetic change, not a functional change, and fell-off the list. So now you can only get a used one from someone who already bought it. If a gun isn't selling well in California, a gun maker may not bother with the expense of getting it back on the list. You can go look at the current roster, which includes lots of revolvers, Glocks, Springfields, etc. But little or no Walthers, Smith/Wesson, etc. It's lame, there are always suits filed against the DOJ but nothing ever changes. Also, we have a 10-round limit on mags, so even if you wanted to buy a full-size Springfield or a Glock 17, you can only put a 10 rounder in it. Cheers~
Thank you for this video. To many people are making fanboy videos. This was what the final piece of info that pointed me to the SR22 for my wife's first handgun
Dissing a gun " 'cause it's a copy of ...." is ridiculous. Most guns are often " a copy" of another gun - often with slight improvements. I didn't look at the S&W offering for the .22LR pistol, nor did I look at Walther's; I handled the SR-22 and it felt great- much like a 1911 feels great in my hands- so did the SR-22. Aluminum anodized slide. Stainless (threaded) barrel. Ambidextrous safety. three dot adjustable sights. Great looks. Comfortable fit in the hands. And a Ruger with Ruger support ! Ironically- the video mentions that the SR22 is a copy of the P22--- not viewed as being good- yet the LCP is a copy of the Keltec -which is better than the Keltec. There are very few truly innovative designs out there that could be said to be 100% original-- most copy aspects of other designs as a base-whether it be the design of the safeties, grip angle, slide features, etc. Besides- who would want a 100% design from scratch- it would never meet the reliability requirements of consumers anyways... I've got a few Rugers; none have been disappointments- I am sure that the SR-22 won't be either.
Love my P22. The Gen 2 is far more reliable than the Gen 1. I’ve had no issues with mine across all types of ammo. Spend $20 to get a Sentinel captured recoil spring, and it’ll eat anything you put into it.
I'm pretty new to this channel and love their content! Hope the best for you guys and keep the videos coming. On another note, it was sad to find out the smoothest gun reviewer on TH-cam had passed. R.I.P Barry
I like mine, and have had no problems with it. You know the thing about 99 attaboys can be deleted by one ohshit? I just prefer my P22 to the SR22. Close, both nice, love Ruger with all my heart generally, but I just lke my Walther in this case.
Good video young men!! I carried a walther 9mm for several year's that i traded a Clock 40 to my son for loved that gun never a problem well I'm older now have arthritic hands i just didn't enjoy shootin the 9mm anymore cause it hurt so bad now i have Ruger sr22 that i actually love more than the walther. I've shot shells I've had for 30 year's through this little gun no problem what so ever i conceal carry it with the stingers but have shot several subsonic rounds no hiccups. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun
Here is the thing, everyone that owns an automatic .22 wants to buy huge bulk boxes of junk ammo so they can run out and spray rounds everywhere, and then complain when it jams. That bulk ammo is best used for bolt action or revolver firearms. Buy quality ammo to shoot in a quality automatic 22 firearms! Period
I've never owned a P22 but that is what people complain about. I know that cheap 22 ammo is gonna exactly that. Cheap and possibly not made to spec. I mean 22 premium ammo is still absolutely dirt cheap.
Why buy expensive ammo for a gun that is only useful for Plinking? Fuck outta here ammo snobs! My p22 qd eats anything it is the new version though - they gave it a better one piece recoil spring. Check out the 22 plinkster review on it.
I own a p22 I’ve run cheap American Eagle bulk. And cci stingers. It still has issues with high end ammo and more with cheap shit. It’s just not reliable. I’ve messed with it and it’s a bit better but still crap. It’s now a beater toy do what ever. There not worth anything selling them.
Traded my Walther away yesterday- had it two weeks, lost $150 on the trade. Got it for xmas from my wife. Sorriest pistol I ever owned. Got a Ruger SR22 in trade. Instantly all my ftf fte, ftc problems went away. Talked to Walther they told me to only use CCI mini mag. I was, but also wanted to use other ammo. Would not shoot other HI-Vel ammo, and most definitely no non-premium ammo. They said it was in the manual. It's not, only to use 22LR. If it takes a specific cartridge it should be posted on the box. Internet is full of videos on how to modify to make it work . I call BS on this gun. I got the gun to shoot, not have to repair it new out of the box, or send it in new for warranty, or not be able to use it if I can't find special ammo.. Stay away from this Jammin'Jenny.
i had checked every youtube video out their before a picked up my ruger sr22 and i'm glad i did it's been a great little gun. and feeds great on all types of ammo i have put in it. i'm very happy with my ruger sr22 i justed picked up a ruger p95 i hope it shoots as good as my sr22 made in america and great service too
I have a sr22 no complaints at all 1000 rounds no problems at all, was looking at the walther as well just went for the less expensive of the 2 good vid guys.
+Nate Rivera Ruger made a better Walther P-22 just like they made a better Kel-Tec P3AT. They admitted the Ruger LCP was better than the Kel-Tec then insinuated the Walther P22 was better than the SR22 only because it was the original. LOL
Since 2013 Walther Arms is based in the USA and now providing excellent service and support for all existing Walther models. I have ordered spare parts without issue. Before, 2013 Smith & Wesson was a provider of service and unfortunately it was rated poorly. Thanks for the great video.
Ruger is late to the game with their copies but they are always improved over the originals. The LCP is a nicer P3AT. The LC9 is a nicer PF9. The SR22 is a much better P22. The P22s I've handled were all super picky and jam-o-matics. They also slung the brass straight at my face. The SR22 has eaten whatever I feed it and ejects to the right. It has been so much better than the Walther in my experiences.
I've put 650 rounds thru my new Taurus TX-22. Box of Federal 550 bulk, and 100 36g Mini Mags. Not one single problem, with either ammo. Comes with two 16 round mags, and the trigger reset is amazing!!! I love it!!!!!!
Appreciate the vid. I'm hitting the C&E Show in Richmond tomorrow. Had my eye on these two 22's , and was already leaning Walther. Assuming a fair deal at the show...I'll be shooting one tomorrow afternoon. You guys kick ass...cheers!
i love your video's, you guys are very informative and you work so well together. You compliment each other. Its like going to gun school with great teachers.
Yes Ruger does have awesome customer support.. I had a recall on my MK 4 pistol they sent me a box I shipped it and had it back in less then two weeks. And Ruger sent me a extra mag for my trouble good job Ruger.
Except the Ruger is made in the USA, *not* Germany like Walther. IDK about you, but I’m patriotic and don’t you ever forget the nazis. I’m very surprised you guys didn’t mention where the gun’s made. Kinda sad.
I have some "Segmented HP CCI 22LR" 32 grain 1640fps hollow point ammo for my P22 here & when I fire it, fire is the correct word to use. Big ball of fire, lots of fun. Really like this little gun. Great vid guys.
I haven’t had any problems with either. Walther p22 was my first handgun got it as a gift.. kid down the road got one soon after he mowed his neighbors lawn the whole summer and he gave him a p22 with the extension for doing it he just turned 15 lol stories like that is why I love America just a normal thing to give kids handguns.
I have the walther an older one, the slide broke down through the ejection port, sent it in and it came back with a newer style slide. It’s a ok piece, I don’t like the mag disconnect, that being said I’d pick the ruger .
I saw my first Ruger manufacturing defect about a month ago. I was visiting my family in WV and my dad wanted to buy himself a small retirement present. He went to Cabela's to purchase a Ruger Single 6 (His first gun as a kid in 1963) . He ended up buying a Single 10. We brought it home to shoot and ammo just wouldn't fit in it. The cylinder was misbored. He took it back and exchanged it for a very nice stainless single six with 2 cylinders and it worked flawlessly.
I own both, have more rounds through the P22 than the SR22, but personally I enjoy my SR22 more, little bit more comfortable for me to shoot, it's also one of my daily carry guns, I live in Wisconsin, I open carry a CZ P09 and carry both the SR22 and a s&w shield for conceal
Incredibly useful, gentlemen - Thank-you!! I've been trying to decide between the two and you just helped settle the question. There's a Walther in my near future!
My brother bought a charles daly 1911 years ago it has to have rite at 2000 rounds through it with no problems.his friend bought a Colt same day paid almost double what my brother did ,Both are very happy with the guns they bought..
A friend of mine has the P22 and it is picky when it comes to ammo, it really likes the CCI's. I chose the SR22 and it eats just about any ammo that I put in it. I have about 500 rounds through it now and am happy that I decided on it. I also have a 10/22 and a LCP.
The new Walther p22 is amazing I buy one few month ago for 269$ the new one tho and I have purchase Cci standard velocity Remington regular velocity and hight velocity golden bullets I have used a lot of different ammo and have eat it all no problem I have run naw about 850 round in the gun no cleaning and have not give me no issue it’s a amazing for me I gave it shoot because I had one long time ago and it’s super good
Love my Walther. Hey, It's James Bond's little brother so... As far as the recoil spring, there's an easy way to compress it with no tool, you just have to wait to oil the recoil spring shaft till after you reassemble. If you compress the spring onto the sping rail you can hold it there with one hand (the reason for no oil at this point) whilst you fit the slide back on. Somebody else posted a video on this method and since I first started reassembling in this way, I never use the little tool.
Bought a sr22 when they first came out and put over 10,000 rounds through it in a few months and ate everything I put through it. Had alittle issue in the first models with slight gouges on the slide so I sent it back to ruger and they replaced the slide and even gave me a new barrel. When I called they said they didn't hear of anyone putting that many rounds through one so I'm sure they enjoyed seeing how it held up. Love the gun, just wish mine came with a threaded barrel
Just got Walther p22-CA came with 2 mags. I fed it with RWS high velocity 22LRs 40 grain hollowpt and shot 1000+ rounds so far, no issue. Will buy the Tiffany blue p22 for wife next.
Great Great video!!! Very thought provoking and honest!!! I have an SR-22 But have not shot it intensely, so far no problems I definitely will consider the Walther in the future as another fun 22 cal to shoot. Walther has a very good reputation as does Ruger. Thanks again guys!!!!
I have a Walther P22 that is around 10 years old as well. It has no problems with jamming or failure to eject. Good little gun. I don't understand all the bad publicity either.
I've had a P22 for about 5 years, and love it. That being said, I have had some failures to feed with bulk ammo. It feeds great with Winchester SuperX, or other more expensive ammo, but Walmart bulk is a little iffy.
Watching this in 2019. Berry was awsome RIP old timer.
Spoon clank
watching this in 2024! lol R.I.P Berry!
Dito.
It really is a special video when I can search for a gun review and find the legendary Barry.
I've owned a couple of Walthers, but had an SR22 in my hands at a gunshow today and she really looked and felt good. Think I'm going to go for the Ruger.

Got a p22 in 2010 for my wife's small hands. It was ergonomically excellent, and it helped my kids get a lot of experience clearing jams. Sold it. (Never tried the upgraded version.)
Got an sr22 last month. It feels smoother and more solid. Gonna keep this one.
Never shot the walther but I've had an sr22 for two years now and it love that gun to death
Really like the fact that you guys are just sharing your honest opinions and acquired information. Felt like just sitting down chatting with the guys about what we like/dislike without bashing a manufacturer. Just bought a P22 and hoping to put some rounds through it this weekend.

Just got a sr22! Dam thing shoots! Can't complain about anything Ruger makes!
Same here!! Love my P-85 and 10/22 rifle
I have a SR22 and it works with out fail. I also watched this because I miss Barry. I am glad you are still making videos.
Love my p22. Shoots great and my 110lb wife can practice all day long with it. And it has never jammed, no matter what brand of ammo I've stuffed through it.

I bought the sr22, and love it. Went to the range with my dad, and he bought one, mom shot his and she bought one.
Very nice thank you for showing it on you tube have a good night 🙂
The walther P22 went through a revision recently that negates the problems with feeding some kinds of ammo and has added a de-cocker. Id love to see a side by side using the newest versions of both pistols.
Paul Kind
Yes, it’s called the Walther P22 QD. Excellent gun.
I have the new version and mine doesn’t have a decocker
@@6.0.1breacher2 I think this comes optional. I would not buy it with the decocker anyway.
I own a P22, know multiple people with both and the Ruger is more reliable out of the box from what I see. At least, in comparison to the 1st Gen P22.....

22 more reasons to get a revolver I love my Smith & Wesson model 686 357 Magnum no feeding issues no misfire issues I point this thing at you and you will s*** yourself
I just picked up a sr22 and I gotta say, I love it. It's very comfortable in my hand and has a perfect full size. It is reliable and very accurate

Still miss Barry.
just what I was thinking
Where did he go I never did know that.
Barry passed away. Bless his Soul
Me too - makes me sad
+Ricky Discer Barry died unexpectedly.
WOW everytime I buy a new arm you make a video on it. GET OUT MY SAFE!!! LOL love it.
When the lord returns with his army I hope Barry is in it:-) we miss you Barry!
I just ordered a Walther P22 from Classic Firearms.. Already own a Ruger SR22... LOVE it. Looking forward to comparing the two. I sure miss Barry.
Had a Walter P22, worst 22 I ever!
Steve Miller are the magazines same, meaning operable in both 22’s

Love my Ruger SR-22! The only time I've ever had an issue with it is when I use non-jacketed/plated ammo (Remington Thunderbolt, etc).
Thanks for the nice video guys... I love the Walter P22 and both my kids shoot it dead on bulls eye with it... so had to get one... have a Good one
IM SO GLAD TO HEAR A GOOD REPORT ON THE WALTHER P22. I HAVE HEARD SO MANY BAD REVIEWS ON THEM. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A GOOD ONE. IM SOLD ON IT NOW.
I like mine, and have had no problems with it. You know the thing about 99 attaboys can be deleted by one ohshit? I just prefer my P22 to the SR22. Close, both nice, love Ruger with all my heart generally, but I just lke my Walther in this case.
Great shout out to the subscribers. Loved it guys. Keep on keepin on
The changes that were made to the P22 has changed it from being very finicky gun to being one of the most reliable 22 pistols available.
Good job boys. Both guns are great fun and your reviews were right on. Thanks for taking the time.
Missing Barry.
eyeing an SR22.
This video couldnt have came at a better time for me. Trying to decide between the two for a 21st birthday gift for my cousin. Thanks guys!

you got the old version or the new verison ? cause they fixed it to be a better p22
Badass timing. Ive been looking at SR22's lately. Thanks Eric and Barry.
Why does almost no one do reviews on the Walther PPQ 22?
I see a bazillion on the Walther P22 which is made in a BB gun factory. But the PPQ22?
I needed this review today five years after you guys made it! So glad to see Barry once more. Thanks for the honest comparison.
Barry died years ago actually. Miss his videos😔

I have a sr22 no complaints at all 1000 rounds no problems at all, was looking at the walther as well just went for the less expensive of the 2 good vid guys.
Ruger now can be had with a 4.5inch barrel
I have had my P22 for four years now, with no problems at all. Its just a fun little gun to plink with.
just sounds like they are bashing ruger after saying they arent
+Nate Rivera Ruger made a better Walther P-22 just like they made a better Kel-Tec P3AT. They admitted the Ruger LCP was better than the Kel-Tec then insinuated the Walther P22 was better than the SR22 only because it was the original. LOL
We're not complaining about Ruger but we're complaining about Ruger😄
I love it!!!!!!
the sr22 is based from the ruger p89 9mm mfg. 1992-2007
Appreciate the vid. I'm hitting the C&E Show in Richmond tomorrow. Had my eye on these two 22's , and was already leaning Walther. Assuming a fair deal at the show...I'll be shooting one tomorrow afternoon. You guys kick ass...cheers!
WALTHER P-22 ROCKS BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love your video's, you guys are very informative and you work so well together. You compliment each other. Its like going to gun school with great teachers.
Sr22
Yes Ruger does have awesome customer support.. I had a recall on my MK 4 pistol they sent me a box I shipped it and had it back in less then two weeks.
And Ruger sent me a extra mag for my trouble good job Ruger.
Except the Ruger is made in the USA, *not* Germany like Walther. IDK about you, but I’m patriotic and don’t you ever forget the nazis. I’m very surprised you guys didn’t mention where the gun’s made. Kinda sad.
Nunya Bidness cause nobody buys a gun to be patriotic. They buy a gun for the quality of the gun
Very nice review I'm sorry I couldn't make it to your store when I was over in the USA next time for sure
It's nice to see your shelves filling up again. Particularly the ammo shelf :)
I just bought a SR22. OMG this gun is awesome!!
Looking at both - appreciate y’all making this video.
I have the walther an older one, the slide broke down through the ejection port, sent it in and it came back with a newer style slide. It’s a ok piece, I don’t like the mag disconnect, that being said I’d pick the ruger .
great content guys, best firearms channel on youtube hands down.
Thank you guys!
Man it's 2022 and I still miss barry love his opinions ..
Glad to see someone finally praising the p22 this is gonna be my first gun
I own both, have more rounds through the P22 than the SR22, but personally I enjoy my SR22 more, little bit more comfortable for me to shoot, it's also one of my daily carry guns, I live in Wisconsin, I open carry a CZ P09 and carry both the SR22 and a s&w shield for conceal
Incredibly useful, gentlemen - Thank-you!!
I've been trying to decide between the two and you just helped settle the question. There's a Walther in my near future!
Very nice comparison, another great video. Appreciate your time
My brother bought a charles daly 1911 years ago it has to have rite at 2000 rounds through it with no problems.his friend bought a Colt same day paid almost double what my brother did ,Both are very happy with the guns they bought..
Good idea, perhaps a mini series, with a video on how to properly install the stock, and a video with some test shooting.
Great video idea. I've been planning picking up a .22 pistol and these two pistols are tops on my list!
A friend of mine has the P22 and it is picky when it comes to ammo, it really likes the CCI's. I chose the SR22 and it eats just about any ammo that I put in it. I have about 500 rounds through it now and am happy that I decided on it. I also have a 10/22 and a LCP.
The new Walther p22 is amazing I buy one few month ago for 269$ the new one tho and I have purchase Cci standard velocity Remington regular velocity and hight velocity golden bullets I have used a lot of different ammo and have eat it all no problem I have run naw about 850 round in the gun no cleaning and have not give me no issue it’s a amazing for me I gave it shoot because I had one long time ago and it’s super good
Both are sweet guns. Thank you for doing the review. I wanted to get a Walther P22 till I found out about the ruger. Now I am torn.
Get both !
I bought my wife the pink and black p22 after watching your first video for Christmas
I love my P22Q, it runs CCI Mini-mags flawlessly, feels great in hand and take dow is extremely easy, no tools required.
Nice video. I like the silencer on that Ruger. Very nice. Wish i could get one for my Baretta.
Love my Walther. Hey, It's James Bond's little brother so...
As far as the recoil spring, there's an easy way to compress it with no tool,
you just have to wait to oil the recoil spring shaft till after you reassemble. If you compress the spring onto the sping rail you can hold it there with one hand (the reason for no oil at this point) whilst you fit the slide back on. Somebody else posted a video on this method and since I first started reassembling in this way, I never use the little tool.
guys you made a very good video. i like your honesty in yourbown opinions. sorry about my bad english. best regards from germany :)
I got a od green p22. Had it about 3 years and love it! Its the gun I use to get new shooter into the sport.
I love my Ruger SR22!!! Has never jammed on me, only with CCI rounds. It loves everything else!
Just got Walther p22-CA came with 2 mags. I fed it with RWS high velocity 22LRs 40 grain hollowpt and shot 1000+ rounds so far, no issue. Will buy the Tiffany blue p22 for wife next.
Randomly showed up in my feed today. RIP Barry
Always awesome vids. Anything yall make is something I like to watch.
