There's something very amusing to me about the way you said "this is the second coprolite someone has given me". Like, "If I had a nickel for every time someone mailed me a coprolite, I'd have two nickels. Which isnt a lot, but its weird that it happened twice"

The frog you're thinking of is the Suriname toad. The mother lays the eggs, which are then embedded in her back by her mate. The eggs develop anf hatch into tadpoles, which stay in the pockets until they reach full toad status. The mother then sheds the layer of skin the pockets were in.

Some time in our thirties, my cousin and I shared a birthday cake. He is a musician. Not comprehensive, but...
1:48 - Giganotosaurus, by Schleich (small version 2015)
2:05 - Megalosaurus, by Invicta as noted (Invictas were really cool; they're dated but really nicely sculpted)
2:47 - no idea, generic playset or "party favor" minis?
    3:24 - Megalosaurus, by Collecta (2021, brand-new!)
4:00 - Megalosaurus, by Toyway (folks, this is what the Invictas and WALKING WITH toys got replaced by. *sob*)
7:00 - the ceratopsian might be Menefeeceratops (appropriately) and the ankylosaur and hadrosaurs might be Invictarx & Ornatops, respectively (thx Wiki)
10:52 - I have those cards! They show up in lots of bookstores and gift shops. I remember seeing those dino illustrations in a lot of kids's books and sticker books.
    11:43 - ??????
12:10 - Rudy, from ICE AGE 3; dunno the manufacturer (Honkin' big Baryonyx in the film, if that's the genus he's supposed to be)
12:40 - Placerias, unknown party toy brand (It looks modeled after the WWD design; Everything dinosaur carries this model)
13:00, 13:52, 14:15, 14:57 - more (customized) party bin toys? (The one at 14:28 I always classified as Ornithosuchus, a primitive archosaur)
14:00 - Ornitholestes, looks like a knockoff from Chap Mei
14:45 - Velociraptor, Safari ltd Dinos Toob
    16:50 - ??? Maybe a dollar store chinasaur
17:35 - here I thought it was bad getting Dimetrodon mixed up with Spinosaurus...
19:25 - just display it with some predators as a cleaned-out carcass.
21:40 - Achelousaurus, by Collecta/Procon - except this one looks like a knockoff
    22:10 - Styracosaurus, also by Collecta/Procon (2007 - they've made a better one since)
23:50 - as soon as they said it had sound, I just KNEW it would be that.
24:13 - Allosaurus, by Safari ltd. (2019; gorgeous model, probably best Allo toy on the market)
25:08 - Brachiosaurus, by Safari ltd. again (2010)
26:30 - oh, those cakes are CURSED. ....I think I want one.
29:42 - that Yangchuanosaurus might be a Steve Kirk trace.
38:30 - that is a GORGEOUS little model. I'd love to see that get mass-produced somehow.
Fun video; dinosaur toys are a delight!

Technically, many parts of Christmas were assimilated from pre-Christian religions (in part to make Christianity more appealing to the pagan peoples they were trying to convert) such as the Roman celebration of Saturnalia and the German Yule celebrations. In turn these would have had their roots stretching back millennia, possibly to stone age peoples. For example, the Christmas tree could come from the Saturnalian custom of cutting down a tree and bringing them into ones home during the festival. Similarly, the Germanic people marked the arrival of midwinter, the winter solstice, by bringing evergreen trees and branches into their homes. Even the time for Christmas, December 25th, was used because of the Yule festival (Dec 27th - 25th); Jesus' actual date of birth is unknown (though some put it in September due the astrological clues in the story but this is just conjecture). So, a picture of a prehistoric man and "Christmas" petroglyphs may not be as incompatible as one might assume.

At 19:50, you're thinking of Suriname toads, Pipa pipa, which are close relatives of African clawed frogs (they're both members of the family Pipidae, or the 'tongueless frogs", called so because their tongues are heavily reduced and instead use their long fingers to shovel aquatic insects and small fish into their mouths.)
The male and female swim in summer-salts during mating, resulting in the eggs collecting on the female's back. There a thick pad of skin will form and gradually envelope the eggs over the course of several days. After the eggs have hatched and the toadlets have emerged, the mother will slowly slough this pad of skin off.

Agathaumas is the toy ceratopsian, a dubious genus that probably never existed.

I definitely need to send you some of my old dinosaur toys. I was able to keep a few, one I repurchased that I had as a kid (a hilariously inaccurate Dimetrodon with what looks to be human teeth) but I have a few oddballs that I haven't heard mentioned on the show yet!

In all fairness, Godzilla is heavily inspired by T-Rex if you look deep enough. He's more the old Charles Knight style, body-wise. But still. Course you could argue that his species is related to Tyrannosaurs.

  • @Hoshimaru57
    @Hoshimaru57 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Even if that cake was Iguanodon, that doesn’t explain why the T.Rex looks like a crocodile.
36:20 apparently Agathaumus is the Cerotopsid, though the pictures I see of it are all more or less Charles Knight’s Triceratops
