    • @naingmon
      @naingmon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      DastardlyRidleylash I only know of five toys for the latter, the two (terrible) Schleich toys, the Carnegie one (good representation of what people thought it looked like in the 1990s, now really outdated), the Papo mini one and the excellent Safari ltd. one. The skull is elongated and it might be too skinny in a dorsal view, compared to Scott Hartman’s representation. Though he did mention that if the torso’s width was inaccurate, it should be thinner due to the small pectoral girdle.
      Megaraptor...wow, just wow. I agree with you completely, some terrible sculpts.

    Giraffatitan is my all-time favourite dinosaur. I'm currently 15 years old, and I grew up with the so-called "Brachiosaurus brancai" as the dinosaur that was the most fascinating to me (Although I only knew it a Brachiosaurus at the time). In later years, I finally realized that it was a completely different species and my love for the dinosaur carried over to Giraffatitan. So it's always been close to my heart.

I'd love to see an ornithomimos (or any of it's relatives) because tey are mostly represented as super slender skeletical iguanas with big legs. It would also be great if you did some non-dinosaur creatures that are also represented wrong such (mainly in other archosaurians).

  • @jeremycruzgarza

    Definitely the best series on TH-cam. I'd like to ask though how does sauroposeidon compare to giraffititan and brachiosaurus? I know we only have a few vertebrae but is it enough to safely say that Sauroposeidon is the tallest brachiosaurid? Thank you Steve, much respect

  • @carrieseymour5197
    @carrieseymour5197 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had always supposed that the brachi- in brachiosaurus meant short. Because its relatively short tail and diagonal posture makes it much shorter, front to back, than most comparably sized sauropods. The fact that the tallest sauropod was called "short-lizard" used to amuse me almost as much as the fact that birds are saurischians - which is another treasured fact that YDaW has stolen from me (as of Synapisode #3)

    Don't fragmentary remains indicate that Giraffatitan could grow larger then the (composite) skeleton on display in Berlin? They have a specimen (HM XV2) consisting of a fibula that is ~12% longer than that of HM SII (the mount). And there are anatomical features on the mount that suggest that it was not an adult specimen as there are some unfused bones that we know are fused in adult what was then believed Brachiosaurs. Relevant SVPOW article: svpow.com/2009/03/16/brachiosaurus-both-bigger-and-smaller-than-you-think-incomplete/
    The takeaway: Giraffatitan was even more humongous than the already gigantic skeleton in Berlin implies. As were probably most sauropods compared to what we know of relatively complete specimens. We have huge Apatosaurus/Apatosaurine cervicals in Oklahoma, and stupidly large remains attributed to Alamosaurus.
    As for the next dinosaur, some Oviraptorosaur/Caenagnathid would be interesting.

    • @StevenBellettini
      @StevenBellettini 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Marcus Tullius Cicero You are correct. The giant sauropods are just crazy, aren't they? We get all these tantalizing hints of truly gargantuan animals. Thanks for watching!

    The toy actually seems to be based on the "Brachiosaurus" skeletton mounted in front of the FMNH. The one with the horribly misarticulated shoulder girdle. God I hate that mount.

    If I ever come up with the cast of a Mesozoic paleodocumentary, then I would definitely set the obligatory late Jurassic episode in the Tendaguru formation (although that's just a pipe dream for now).

    What about the ones gaining popularity recently like the Giganotosaurus?
    (I have yet to see a toy but it would be cool to see you review a Sharovipteryx even though it's not a dinosaur)

    Please do quetzalcoatlus! The larger one to be specific, ya know, the giraffe sized one, not the small hell creek one. Thanks!

    I would personnally really like Velociraptor mongoliensis; but I think Archaeopteryx, Mosasaurus or Quetzalcoatlus would also be awesome (even if they aren't dinos)

    Well… I always thought the brachiosaurus head in Jurassic Park was too big, but apparently it wasn’t that off as I thought (still maybe too large).

    Do smilodon or mammothus those would be interesting to cover on the show because like Dimetrodon their not dinosaurs their just generally clumped in to dinosaurs
