I especially despise when the perpetrators get away with the crimes for so long many decades in fact or they never end up getting caught at all and die a natural death which is a huge kick in the teeth for the victims and their families.
We are going to see a lot more of that now with familial DNA as well as other advancements that are solving cold cases. I agree though, it hardly feels like justice when the perpetrators have lived most of their lives free and aren't caught until they're about to die of old age anyway. Every time they bring in some fragile old man in a wheelchair wearing an oxygen mask into court to answer for a murder they committed 45 years ago I feel like they got away with it even though they finally are caught.
@@birdflipper That's a surprisingly negative interpretation. Long term, we will see far less killers get away with it for long, because thanks to recent breakthroughs in genealogy DNA identification, they will be caught before they commit further crimes. The Golden Gate Killer and the Aurora Hammer Killer Alex Ewing are two examples of this miraculous new technology. It means murderers will be caught before they become serial killers, and that's a fantastic breakthrough in crime fighting.
I agree, but a lot of them usually end up dying fairly young so maybe the guilt weighing on them contributed some. I like to think so if not to feel a little justice was served.
I'm beginning to think the mother dreamt the calls or made them up to keep public attention on her son. He most likely, and unfortunately, committed suicide.
Oh poor, poor Gloria, my heart breaks for her. When you have that tiny baby, and hold him in your arms, how could you ever know that he would fill your life with so much grief. I hope she is now at peace.
@@pickles3128 I often hear of US citizens carrying a gun for their own protection. Yet in many years of following true crime cases, I have never heard of a gun saving anyone from becoming a victim of violent crime. @@glamdolly30 Actually what you're describing JUST happened in my town; thank god I'd closed up an hour beforehand. D-bag was holding up 24-hour stores by holding a knife to female workers' throats. @@pickles3128 Wow, thanks I'll look that up. Yes, it's totally unacceptable the cops were a no-show. If I though a gun would make me safer (and it was legal in the UK) I would carry one. But I'm doubtful, because sadly stories like that are so rare. It would be fantastic if women were armed and dangerous, and could keep down the population of sex predators by putting a bullet between their eyes. It just doesn't seem to happen though! If some POS breaks into your home, they deserve everything they get in my view. Your home is sacred! I wouldn't hesitate to shoot anyone who broke in. I came home once and found I'd been burgled, I remember the feeling clearly - not fear, but RAGE. I went from room to room looking for him, and was disappointed he'd gone. What is it with the cops constantly making wrong assumptions about missing person's cases its as if they would rather do everything else other than conduct a search for the person that's gone missing.
They're really not incentivize to do so, especially after the War on Drugs took off in the late 70's. Most resources goes to the The War on Drugs, and nickel and diming citizens (usually poor minorities) through fines and fees over minor criminal infractions (that's how municipalities make their money). Missing people just aren't their concern. Unless it's young kids, but even then....

As for the "war on drugs", that didn't start until the mid to late 80s/early 90s. Most of the big city mayors and city councilmen (the majority of whom were minorities themselves) were begging for stricter drug laws and enforcement due to the epidemic of the highly addictive crack-cocaine that ravaged the poor urban neighborhoods. Gang crime, murder, and overdoses surrounding the drug trade in those communities caused outrage among the residents who were demanding something be done.

Eve Stratford was made to put that nighty on as part of the fantasy and if somebody knocks on your door, you open it. Does anybody remember back in the 1980s the era of the heavy breather that called. The calls are coming from inside the house from inside the house. Actually if you tried to make a phone call to your number inside your house, it would just ring busy if somebody picked it up in another part of the house.
@ STEEL RAIN 😂..Oh yes..its really not funny but back then it was mainly some silly kid making prank calls..lol... .. Unfortunately it's not so funny today, it's most likely either a stalker, or some peodo, but just answering your question/comment, yes sir certainly remember some of the 80s 😉😜
Not if you had two lines. My house in Jersey had my bedroom upstairs and I had a big heavy desk phone with a rotary dial. It was my own personal number. If I wanted to, I could ring my Daddy downstairs for fun lol. I miss my Daddy and that house. Melancholia....
That was a horror movie cliche, I believe first seen in the 1974 film 'Black Christmas' - the killer phones the young women living in a sorority house, and eventually police put a trace on the line and tell the women "The calls are coming from inside the house - GET OUT!" It's since been used in many films.
My grandmother receives weird calls with breathing sometimes. I think it's from one of those internet calls or something because it's not from a jail or prison. Has a weird number and it's not from a foreigner spam calling. I've answered the phone a few times and all I could hear was breathing or silence.
In the Strafford case I wonder if the killer was someone who worked for the magazine she posed for? He would have had access to her information. So sad
Wow I hope Gloria and her husband made some new friends later who were truly their well-wishers and not some seasonal friends who would run away as opposed to sticking by their side in their hard times. Poor people already lost their son and their sorry excuse of friends started to feel uncomfortable around them when they should have been their biggest support. My heart breaks for this beautiful family. May Gloria and her husband find peace in their afterlife. And I truly hope the remaining family members find some closure about Steven's disappearance.
The English Laundry for Her is so lovely! I pretty much used the Calgon Marshmallow body spray (for years) so I was nervous to try something new, but was quite happy with my choices.
thank you so much for covering steven chait. i read his story on doenetwork a few years ago and think about it often. not enough coverage at all, it’s so sad that so many of these old cold cases fall through the cracks and get forgotten about.
Sadly, I've heard before about the Stratford/Farrow/Wheedon tragedy before, after an elaborate, two-part treatment of the case on another favorite channel. Some of the details were told differently, but I knew all about the Mayfair angle, the DNA link, and the surface similarities between Stratford's and Farrow's deaths.
I thank God you are being "politely sniffed". It is distinctly unpleasant to be rudely sniffed. As a rule, I don't encourage a lot of sniffing because of that fine line. It strikes me that daily bathing and the use of an economical underarm deodorant leaves a chap pretty much scentless. Monty Python, Not Being Seen or Smelt. Safest these days. Good episode otherwise.
All that beautiful, unfulfilled potential, all the wonderful experiences, love, laughter, new births and multiple other life achievements, wiped out in a few brutal seconds by a pervert with no respect for humanity. All the broken hearts left behind, that could never be mended. Utterly sickening!
It always haunts me to have kids in the future when any day they could end up being vanished into thin air or murdered. I have to give to the people who can carry on with life as if nothing happened. I can’t even entertain the idea of how that would be like… This life is far too unpredictable to have a family in my opinion. It’s just too risky. Anyone else feel like this?
Freaks and monsters, I hope they rot. These poor victims. The policeman who was doing his best to keep an eye on that young woman must have felt terrible. Great video as always Rob!!! Thank you!

Occam’s Razor for #1: He gave his parent’s home phone number to a trusted friend and asked them to call that number every year but leave the line muted. Then he drowned himself in the Hudson. (Yes, I’m aware that Columbia requires all students to pass a swimming test, but if you jump in a river and choose not to tread water, you will eventually go under.)
Why would he ask a friend that? To leave the line muted? And the friend wouldn't say anything eventually? And also most people who are suicidal give out signs that they want to commit it. And it strikes me as odd that a mere C lead to an existential crisis (and I am saying this after being an honor student all my life). Wouldn't be something else bothering him? It feels like something is missing from this case.
Why would he want someone to make silent calls to torment his poor Mom after his death? There's no reason to believe he hated her! Sadly the statistical likelihood is the guy suffered depression and killed himself. The calls were from a tragic prick who got his rocks off hearing a bereaved elderly woman cry. Case Closed!
“But Then he got a C in a key course, and he was devastated. He had never gotten a C before. So he decided to change his major to art history…20 year old Steven Chait was never seen again.”
I think there are, unfortunately, too many ppl who think it's funny to see or hear or even just know someone else is in pain emotionally. It's nice to think maybe these ppl were calling home but I would bet it's some a*hole who got a kick out of doing this or teenagers who thought it was "just a joke"
Yep, definitely crank calls. The poor woman couldn't even change her number, because she held out hope her son would one day return and need to contact her. Sadly he was clearly dead, soon after he vanished - most likely by suicide. Young men are the most likely to kill themselves.
is there any way for me to submit cases to be talked about or discussed? in 2012/2013(?) there were a pair of sisters that were murdered in a house in PGH, PA they had recently bought, one my family had just moved out of. the killer was found to be their neighbor and it seems like it was kind of dropped after that, despite the scene of the crime being very meticulous and disturbing. their names were Dr. Sarah and Susan Wolfe, "chislett st double murder"
Great job as always. Those parents in the first story it's horrible that the phone calls happened. Just for the reason she always thought it was her son. I can't imagine telling my son I love you, please come home and it never happening when it's him on the other end. That's torture complete and absolute. Also they happened for 25 years if he was alive how could he listen to the pain in her voice and not say anything. At least tell her you are ok and you can't take seeing her. To not say anything for so very long and a few times a year. It's a miracle any of them could pull themselves together.
Idk what's more disturbing the fact that these killers got away with they crimes or the fact the people who committed these crimes blended back into society living normal lives like they ain't did shit could be you neighbor, your boss, your best friend, your spouse the possibilities are endless
Eve's neck and face were badly mutilated, investigators described it as one of the most horrific crime scenes ever.
They'll burn in hell
I agree, but a lot of them usually end up dying fairly young so maybe the guilt weighing on them contributed some. I like to think so if not to feel a little justice was served.
An obvious one which has been covered quite extensively but I'm intrigued by what exactly happened to Brandon Swanson and where exactly he ended up.
Yeah. That is a mysterious one. I thought he fell into the river, but you'd think his body would've been found.
I think he was abducted by very bad people. They probably caused him to swerve off the road and then took him
The Brandon swanson case is as cold as a winter's night no one will ever know what happened
Segment #1: couldn't the calls have been traced considering the calls continued up to 1997?
Yeah, I was surprised by that as well.
Yea I don't get that, couldn't trace NONE for 25 years??? AND she lived to be freaking 91!
Convenience store clerks have a dangerous job, especially back then. often times females working alone at night, and for minimum wage. smh
No female employee should be left alone inside any 24 hour business at night. They are a sitting duck for any passing weirdo to attack.
I openly carry a 9mm after one crazy dude came in threatening me. I called 911 and the cops never even checked on me.
@@pickles3128 I often hear of US citizens carrying a gun for their own protection. Yet in many years of following true crime cases, I have never heard of a gun saving anyone from becoming a victim of violent crime. Murders rapes and kidnappings continue, unaffected by public gun ownership. Why is that?
@@glamdolly30 Actually what you're describing JUST happened in my town; thank god I'd closed up an hour beforehand. D-bag was holding up 24-hour stores by holding a knife to female workers' throats. A customer emptied his clip into the man's forehead. Search for news article: Jul 17, 2022 - 'I know I did the right thing:' Customer shoots, kills armed robber at St. Charles QuikTrip.
Although I couldn't care less about getting robbed for the money; the gun is if someone's going to hurt me or someone else. Taking someone else's life, even if you have to, hurts your soul, and I wish I didn't have to carry any weapon at all. But it certainly discourages the creeps I had to deal with before I had to buy one. I reiterate, the cops DIDN'T EVEN SHOW UP, so I just don't bother calling them... Maybe if I tell them there's a nonviolent drug offender they will come.
I would literally have tried to tear him limb from limb!
@@blackdragon6 Officers and law enforcement resources in a major metropolitan city are stretched pretty damn thin. They get literally hundreds if not thousands of calls in a day ranging from simple reports to full on criminal investigations and arrests for murder, battery, assaults, domestics etc. Looking for grown man who decided to up and leave without saying anything to anyone is not on the list of priorities, nor should it be unless there is evidence that foul play was involved.

Another excellent episode. Thankyou for your content.
Eve Stratford was made to put that nighty on as part of the fantasy and if somebody knocks on your door, you open it. I only know of somebody asking who is there, without opening the door, a very, very, few number of times and when they do, I always think they're weird. I know they're being smart but I can't help thinking at the time that they're weird.
Ahhh look at all those British ‘70’s Cars !!😊
Yeahhhh 💯👍 perfect timing to finish the night 🙂 thank you CL and to all here cheers and have a great night from the UK 🇬🇧
OMG that first story about Steven is freaking heart wrenching. Their entire family was just torn apart and it makes me sad. For these parents to NEVER find out what happened to their children....it's literally too much for your mental health to take.
After a long time i can see a topic i love. Mysterious phone calls❤❤💯
Thank god! Something to watch while I cook dinner! ❤️
this is my fav one! the mystery calls... i will watch when i wake up at 12 midnight
You are by far the most exceptional true crime content creator. You also find some of the most intriguing and obscure incidents that are hardly known. So many of the others just cover the same content. Also, the mystery of the Tamam Shud case (one that has been done to death) might actually be solved soon. Would be so keen to hear your take on that
It seems to have taken the US a long, long time to realise that allowing teenagers to run stores alone at night isn't a good idea.
She was 20 yrs old, wtf do you consider a teenager?
agreed. young women should not be left work at night alone. it's just not safe. really no one should work alone during the night at places like gas stations.
@@TheRoadhammer379 Omg take it easy lol
It's the states, first world country where women are left vulnerable, open to being killed.
Thanks criminally listed!
Good evening. Thanks for the stories. Sick people running around. So sad. Have a good night
Good evening CL family. Love and light to all.
I LIKE MITTENS!
Been watching your videos since 2018 please don’t stop or change anything 💚
this is the best thing he's done in a while!
Been wanting to try scentbird again for a while now. Got paid today, CL posts a vid with sponsorship… it was meant to be ! Haha thank you for the video!
I haven't heard of *SCENTBIRD* before. Sounds like a deal, but I would only sign up if they had Paris Hilton for Men. I miss that brand. Making you smell like a mid-level Male Escort in San Diego. Superb.
😂
Damn, you make it sound so appealing that now I want to smell like a mid-level male escort in San Diego
Does anybody remember back in the 1980s the era of the heavy breather that called. The calls are coming from inside the house from inside the house. Actually if you tried to make a phone call to your number inside your house, it would just ring busy if somebody picked it up in another part of the house.
@ STEEL RAIN
😂..Oh yes..its really not funny but back then it was mainly some silly kid making prank calls..lol...
@@jessicahanley5080 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
So sad
I was thinking the same thing, especially after the other girl who posed received threats.
Someone in HR. Although you would assume the police had covered that angle.
Thank you for making my workday incredible. It helps me
Another great story. Keep up the great work
Many thanks to you and everyone else involved in the making of your content I really appreciate it thank you.

That seems to be a common theme on this channel.
I appreciate you bringing Awareness. Prayers for the Families.💔🙏🕊️💔🙏🕊️💔🙏🕊️
Awesome job guys
The English Laundry for Her is so lovely! I pretty much used the Calgon Marshmallow body spray (for years) so I was nervous to try something new, but was quite happy with my choices.

thank you so much for covering steven chait. i read his story on doenetwork a few years ago and think about it often. not enough coverage at all, it’s so sad that so many of these old cold cases fall through the cracks and get forgotten about.
I'm so happy to see this
Sadly, I've heard before about the Stratford/Farrow/Wheedon tragedy before, after an elaborate, two-part treatment of the case on another favorite channel. Some of the details were told differently, but I knew all about the Mayfair angle, the DNA link, and the surface similarities between Stratford's and Farrow's deaths.
Ok good for you.
Let’s go!! Let’s go solve some cases!!
Me and my frat brothers solved plenty of *cold cases* if you know what I'm talking about.
If you can solve these cases that have eluded umpteen qualified detectives for decades, you must be a genius!

Rebel scent: Vanilla 😁

Yes, forensic genealogy needs to be used to solve these cold cases!
It always haunts me to have kids in the future when any day they could end up being vanished into thin air or murdered. I have to give to the people who can carry on with life as if nothing happened. I can’t even entertain the idea of how that would be like…
This life is far too unpredictable to have a family in my opinion. It’s just too risky.
Anyone else feel like this?

These poor victims.
The policeman who was doing his best to keep an eye on that young woman must have felt terrible.

Case Closed!
niiiiiice been waiting for this

I think there are, unfortunately, too many ppl who think it's funny to see or hear or even just know someone else is in pain emotionally. It's nice to think maybe these ppl were calling home but I would bet it's some a*hole who got a kick out of doing this or teenagers who thought it was "just a joke"
Yep, definitely crank calls. The poor woman couldn't even change her number, because she held out hope her son would one day return and need to contact her. Sadly he was clearly dead, soon after he vanished - most likely by suicide. Young men are the most likely to kill themselves.
We'll never know.

is there any way for me to submit cases to be talked about or discussed? in 2012/2013(?) there were a pair of sisters that were murdered in a house in PGH, PA they had recently bought, one my family had just moved out of. the killer was found to be their neighbor and it seems like it was kind of dropped after that, despite the scene of the crime being very meticulous and disturbing. their names were Dr. Sarah and Susan Wolfe, "chislett st double murder"

Aww. Poor girls.
No-one deserves that.
I hope all these evil monsters face karma... 😠
Very sad indeed and frustrating when killers don't get caught
Why is there an image of a tornado that flashes onscreen at 23:56??
Idk what's more disturbing the fact that these killers got away with they crimes or the fact the people who committed these crimes blended back into society living normal lives like they ain't did shit could be you neighbor, your boss, your best friend, your spouse the possibilities are endless

Eve's neck and face were badly mutilated, investigators described it as one of the most horrific crime scenes ever. Also, a lot of witnesses saw separately a white man ( possibly the same individual ) running from the scene where weedon was murdered. I believe these are very important details of the case that you forgot to mention.
