    Only 4 years for murder how pathetic is that it's because of this that people resort to taken things into their own hands when the justice system fails them in this way.

      I understand your point. But the voodoo guy really had no motive except sadism and a sad religion. I think you're saying when the system fails the victim it encourages people to seek justice on their own. Sad to say I agree...and maybe, sometimes it's warranted.

      Yup 4 years is ridiculous! Especially when you think that people have done/are doing more time than that for selling weed! Pedos get single digit time more frequently than most other criminals. Our justice system is broken and outdated.

    I remember that horror movie Wishmaster. And one of his methods of dispatching people is decapitation with piano wires. That is because Robert Englund AKA Freddy Krueger said he would like to throw a party that would be remembered forever. And as we all know the jinn from Wishmaster specializes in those ironic wishes. Where you technically get what you want but you really don't want it. The very definition of be careful what you wish for.

      That's the criminal justice system for u. Ppl that should get severe sentences rarely do and ppl that don't deserve to go to prison at all go for years and years like for drug charges. I get if they're moving actual weight but an addict that gets caught with a very small amount doesn't deserve to be in prison for multiple years. Then u have white collar criminals that steal millions and billions of dollars that never end up going to prison or they go to some special country club privately owned prison for maybe a year or 2. Messed up

      It's explained in the video that the prosecution had a difficult time prosecuting the case because of lack of evidence (the rest of the body AND the murder weapon), lack of witness testimony (they didn't show up), and the witness testimony they did have (the ex girlfriend) had credibility issues. This isn't about the low value they put on Garrety's life. This is about their ability to prosecute a murder in a way that ensures some modicum of justices versus running the risk that Harrison would be found "not guilty" by the jury and then would get off scot-free - because, remember, double jeopardy means that he could not be tried again. So prosecutors only have ONE chance to get him behind bars. Given what little they were working with, that is likely the best they could.
      To be clear, I agree that he should have had a much longer sentence, but when it comes to "involuntary manslaughter" that automatically carries lower limits. I don't think violent felons should ever be let out of jail.

    • @leslie3933
      @leslie3933 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even a small piece of his body (the skull) would have been enough for me. If I was ever on a jury, I would not need mountains of evidence.

    • @kellyngrey4950
      @kellyngrey4950 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leslie3933 Yes, and it was enough for the jury as well to convict him. But the charge was involuntary manslaughter. He plead no contest. Which means that he was not contesting the charge that he killed Gafferty. But involuntary manslaughter carries a lighter sentence than does first degree homicide. You, as the juror, do not get to pick what he is charged with. You only rule on it. The jury ruled that he was guilty. He was then sentenced according to the charge of involuntary manslaughter and that is why he received 50 months.

      @@lisabelle7553 don't think anyone blamed the cops. I believe we all talked about "the system". Cops enforce and can be corrupt and prejudice but charging a person with a crime in court is District Attorney's job, sentencing is the judges responsibility, however cops can influence a judge for lesser or harsher sentencing. Juries only have the responsibility to judge the guilt or innocence of the defendant, so you can't blame the jury for the sentence unless it's the death penalty which some courts in the US leave up to the jury. Thanks for responding.

    Anyone from Kansas (and maybe Osago County) with a law background here? If so, I’d like to know why the perp in story 2 only got 4 years! Is it because he pleaded No Contest? Maybe a plea deal that Criminally Listed didn’t bring up? This is very strange for such a “Red” state, it makes me wonder what happened. Thanks in advance.
