Texas native and have lived here my entire life… I love beans in chili 😊 makes it much more hearty and filling. Nothing better than a warm bowl of chili filled with veggies, beans, and meat!
Since starting chemo, my husband can’t tolerate beans, so I switch out with sweet potatoes or butternut squash chunks, amazing chili! Turkey makes it less heavy.
Tried this tonight and it was so delicious and flavorful. My husband and brother-in-law cleaned the pot. I only used one can of chicken broth, one can of kidney beans, and one can of diced tomatoes but the exact same seasoning. Thank you for sharing ❤️
I made this last night and it was a big hit! I made spaghetti on the side and let everyone put the chili over the top and put shredded cheddar and onions on the side. Perfect!!!
Also my quick tip for slicing bell peppers is to slice the top off, turn it upside-down, then slice the sections off, you can rescue any nice bits off the top you cut off, and you can maybe rescue the bottom if it looks good. This way you don't get all the bitter white pith, and the seeds stay neatly together. Less mess, easy clean up!
Nice, what I normally do is push down on the top and cut in line with sections, then seed and everything is in tact then I get rid of any excess I don't want, literally no waste and minimal clean up😊
@@PreppyKitchen hehe you're welcome, its not really my tip, I have to give credit to Gordon Ramsey 😝 I don't remember what show he was on when he shared that info, but it stuck with me lol. A worth while kitchen hack I think!
I make my chili just about the same way John, I add beans to mine, I add white beans so my daughter can see them and fish them out lol. Thank you for sharing with us, I really enjoy watching and listening so many thanks for that. Sitting with baited breath for the next video lol, that’s how much I enjoy them. Enjoy the rest of the week with your sweet family. ❤️Tina❤️
It's his voice for me. It just calms me. I don't know. I'm doing this and I have my yoga mat and I'm just listening to his voice while I'm closing my eyes. Thank you so very much❤❤❤
Interesting idea to add cocoa powder, my family also puts an unusual ingredient into our chili dishes: cinnamon! In fact it's popular in the midwest to have your chili with nice toasty cinnamon roll on the side, it's the perfect combo of sweet and savory that I would encourage anyone to try. 😊 Thank you for this recipe!
I’m in Texas-There are people that like beans in they’re chill. I’m 50/50 because there are chili recipes w/ kidney beans (I like sometimes). I can’t wait to try this because of the cocoa powder action/sounds great 👍
I make my chili very similarly. I use ground turkey and I even add cocoa powder and brown sugar, but I'll also sometimes add refried beans as a way to thicken up the chili.
I also love putting celery in all kinds of stew-like dishes. It is an interesting flavor and also very healthy. Plus, if it is cooked, the flavor is not as overwhelming as when it's raw.
I also add corn, black beans and green peppers to mine. I just made a huge pot of it to freeze on Sunday. This dish is cheap, yummy and will save you money.
Started searching for just “chili recipe”. I had gotten so used to your videos showing up first for me I literally said out loud “where’s my guy, oh there he is.”
Hey John, people get too wound up about beans or no beans....it's your recipe and you can make it however you like it....I always thought that the beans added more protein if you were a little short on ground meat....yours looks great, thank you.
H John , I just made this chili beans with ground turkey and wow! 🤩!! It was amazingly delicious 🤤, my husband loved it, it’s the best chili bean 😍thank you, from now on it will be my favorite to cook a week
I do my chilli very similar, I use beef, and I add a ton of veg to make it last a couple of days. I add diced carrot, button mushrooms, red bell pepper, half of a green bell pepper, and sometimes I might chop up some baby sweetcorn too, they act as sponges and soak up all the flavour as the chilli stews. Super yummy. I crumble in a beef oxo cube as the meat cooks through. Because there's so much veg it doesn't need any carbs on the side. Just serve it as a stew with some cheese on, and I like a generous blob of sour cream too 😅❤ YUUUMMMM
I love your attitude man! Your fans are right, very humble and wholesome vibes. First time ever at hung your video! I stumbled upon a recipe similar to yours like 6 years ago so I was looking on TH-cam to see if I could get any ideas. I love that you try new things with your recipes! Much love from Cali brother.
Because I had six kids, my chili always had celery/carrots in it, diced small enough so they wouldn't notice. We had to make a pound of hamburger stretch so *many* beans were also added. And ~ I've always moved my cutting board around the kitchen when dicing onions but now I have a hood vent so I just place the cutting board on the stove top and turn the fan on 'high'.
I would throw in a bag of frozen riced cauliflower to get some veggie goodness in there and to thicken it up, I would incorporate a can of refried beans.
I Made this because I'm a subscriber on my email to Preppy Kitchen❤️❤️❤️ A little while back. My boyfriend was scared of the turkey but I had tried turkey chili before and convinced him it would be delicious. It was quite delicious and perfect the way it is. I did add tomatoes because I enjoy the flavor, but beyond that kept everything the same and it was absolutely perfect 👌The recipe made him a believer. The turkey is a lighter and more delicious take on the chili, despite the thought that the beef will be better,I feel it weighs down the dish,so prefer the turkey meat. Love this recipe,is definitely a keeper for the recipe files,a classic;) Wonderful when your hungry when the weather 🌡️ is Hot when you want something light, yet satisfying!
I made this recipe for lunch today. I was delicious! The spice ratio is perfect, I personally don't like using the prepackaged spice packets. I also added paprika and jalapeño and used 1 can of kidney and 1 can of pinto beans. It was so good I almost couldn't wait 45 min for it to thicken 😋I will be making your gingerbread cookies later tonight!
As a Belgian I tend to add the tiniest bit of dark 80% cacao chocolate at the end to add a bit of extra flavour to the dish and we also use red kidney beans.
Thank you for this recipe. I have high cholesterol so it was perfect. Put a little brown sugar, slightly less chili powder but did add the cocoa and a dash of cinnamon. Made it yesterday and almost all gone. Wish I doubled it. Turkey noodles 😂
Loved it all the way up to the chicken broth. I'll do this, but I'l use a big can of crushed tomatoes to simmer then add a can of chili beans at the tail end.
It's always fun to watch you cook! I would like to cook this delicious chili, but prefer to use organic ground chicken. Rest ingredients will remain the same. Thanks for sharing the recipe. if you have comments on use of chicken, I would like to know.
I feel Chili should always have beans in it but that’s what I was raised my mother always made it with beans. Thank you for making it with turkey. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice! I'm a make a *big pot the day before* kind of chili maker. I find that this kind of dish tastes amazing - *on a whole other dimension* - the next day. So I always soak then cook my beans from a dry state, and they taste incredible in the finished dish once they marry up for one or even two nights. 😊

I actually add celery to my chili. Everyone loves my chili, so I know it's great addtion. And I use a variety of black beans, pinto, and kidney beans.
One of my favorite things to make on my diet 😋
It’s so good for meal prep IMHO
I use black beans. My unusual ingredient is carrots. Love the sweet crunch. I like my chili on the soupy side.
Made this following the recommended ingredients and it turned out great.
Mmmm, I'll definitely add the cocoa. And I love black beans. Such a versatile recipe. 😋
OMG- For my first time making this, I took the liberty of fine-chopping some bacon to brown up with the turkey and WOW. WOW. WOW.
I'm a Texan and I like beans in my chili. There's a lot more of us than we'd like to admit

LoL... I toss in a few chocolate chips. 😜
If you live near a Mexican market or grocery store get the chocolate that is used in making mole. It's not expensive.
