  • Here is a detailed look at my updated off duty everyday carry (EDC). Having spent the last 12 years in public safety as a paramedic, SWAT medic and reserve deputy sheriff I am well aware of the limitations of our emergency services and choose to carry enough to mitigate life threatening situations, while still maintaining functionality and convenience (I also am a gear head and fully admit that I carry more than most people will ever need).

    Thanks for sharing man! And that tourniquet sheath was meant for the CAT to protect your pant leg from the Velcro. But it’s removable, just attached at the bottom with Velcro. So for your setup you should definitely take it out. Stay safe man!

      @@PrepMedic Thanks for this video, I'm an unrepentant gearhead, too. On the subject of 'need', my mindset is "I'm never in danger, I AM the danger"! I have several bags. EDC, Get-home, Bugout, INCH. 4 may seem excessive, but I believe in the maxim "2 is 1, and 1 is none".

      @@PrepMedic great video. Btw the Glock 19 uses 15 round mags and the +1 is in the chamber if you preload it and insert a full mag. I really appreciate the video because I kind of have a similar every day carry except I use a Glock 43X MOS. I just find the thinner gun easier to conceal. I’m glad to see there is somebody else out there that understands how important being prepared is. You have to have medical supplies if you carry a firearm in my opinion. Carrying a gun is only half of the equation.

    For anyone new to concealed carrying or getting into it, no one will notice you’re carrying unless they also concealed carry. Also, don’t cheap out on your ammo, gun, attachments, holster and make sure you train. Buy what you are comfortable with. Most important things to get first is the gun and quality ammo. Holster can be changed later red dot can always be added as can the light but if youre uncomfortable with the gun you’ve wasted money and will be crying for a 2nd time. Buy once cry once. Your expensive gun won’t save you if you can’t shoot well. If you have to decide between quality ammo or lets say a red dot get quality ammo. You should still know how to aim with iron sights in case your red dot takes a shit so red dot it not needed but is nice to have. Get used to the basics before trying to become faster with lets say a shot timer. Speed is dangerous if you don’t know the basics.

      @@GabrielGarcia-ul9mg i carry a Smith and Wesson M&P9 Compact, but really any compact 9mm from a trustworthy brand (Smith, Glock, Ruger, Steyer, Berreta, probably some others that i can't think of) is gonna be my recommendation. I can't make a specific recc without knowing your control level, hand size, experience etc, but M&P and Glock are a good place to start. Almost any gun shop will allow you to handle handguns on display, just go check out what feels right in your hand and try to visualize or think about your needs on the daily basis. like Prep said, if something is inconvenient you will not carry it.

    • @firstpersonducky9333
      @firstpersonducky9333 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GabrielGarcia-ul9mg also as a new gun owner, try to stay away from the cheap subcompacts. Stuff like SCCY CPX-1, Kel-tec PF9 etc. While SCCY makes an excellent handgun (for the value), small guns like them can have significant recoil and even be painful to someone not accustomed to shooting.

    • @jedijudoka
      @jedijudoka ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GabrielGarcia-ul9mg I recommend Sig P365 as #1 choice. It’s a micro compact 9mm with full size capacity. So easy to conceal and shoots like a bigger gun. I opted for the 365x, which has a slightly longer grip and some other minor differences.

    • @GulfCoastGrit
      @GulfCoastGrit ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@GabrielGarcia-ul9mg Don't know if you've already made your purchase but try this; ask if they can take out as many different pistols as possible and lay them on the counter. Go to each one without really looking at them and pick one up at a time. Best practice is to close your eyes while doing it. When you pick it up, ask yourself "does this feel like I'm holding a gun?" I know that sound silly, but focus on it. Pick two or three pistols that feel the most like you are holding a weapon and not a hunk of metal/plastic. Then, take the winners from that experiment. Get a good grip and drive the gun out in front of you like you've drawn it. Ideally, one of those guns will naturally come up with sights aligned and the gun on target where you are looking.
      If it feels right in the hand and points naturally when you present it, then you have found the right one. NOTE: It does not have to be a small gun. If the right one ends up being larger than what you expected then that's just what it is. Keep an open mind. The right tool for you is the one that you will use and train with and is comfortable. Last point I'll make is this; Even the Gucciest of Glocks and the Sexiest of Sigs fall short to the real hotness: training. A Hi-Point in skilled hands is 1000% better than Kimber Custom in novice hands. Get good training. Practice the basics like Allen said (deliberate practice at the slowest speed you can muster. Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast). Hope that helps and good luck Gabriel.

The Boo boo kit also is very handy. The worst situations I've faced are when I've NOT been carrying my kit or just minimal and the Quick clot or some kind of esophageal airway could have really helped. Thanks for your time. I actually have been carrying the LTC pocket kit since your last video and eventually took out the swat-t and added a NAR compressed gauze behind the gloves. Way slimmer and easier to fit in even a front pocket, and I sometimes use it next to an extra mag to keep it upright in my pocket.
    Anything extra, like that swat-t, I'll keep in my ready pack that I always have in the truck right next to a cat tourniquet and bigger bandages.

    Good overview, only thing is the PocketIfak from LTC. I own one, bought in part because of previous videos of yours, realized really quickly that its a glorified set of rubber bands. Im a student and so I wear a lot of athletic clothes that make carrying stuff really annoying, I find the LTC kit takes more room than needed, instead I would highly suggest rubber banding some nitrile gloves to some packing gauze and a swat T or to a ETD dressing. A rubber band setup like this fits in any regular pocket much better than the LTC kit

    Friendly advice:
    1. When racking the slide to chamber a round, pull back and then let go. Do not assist/push/hang on to the slide when going forward into battery.
    2. I'd recommend loading a +1 if you dont already. Full mag +1 manually loaded.
    3. I'd also recommend loading your pistol into the holster first, and then put the holstered weapon on your belt. Less chance of blowing your junk off if the trigger catches.
    4. Please upgrade your trigger.
    5. Nice setup. If you have any issues with slippery grip, try Talon Grips. I put the sandpaper version on all my firearms. Solid grip even if your hands are wet with blood or water.

    I carry a kit that I formatted for myself if needed. Basically it's a diabetic kit with a breathing and trauma kit in it. It's really nice. It's not for concealed carry though. Which is fine for me.

    really good video, I just find it funny that you use to carry a gun more than a knife, and in personnal experience, a knife can come handy a lot of time, and if you can’t carry a gun in some places a knife can be carryed more often, because it’s smaller and some places don’t accept gun at all. So yeah if you had to do something to upregade your edc, in my point of view it’s the first thing to consider(sorry for my english if I made errors, I’m french)But really good video.

    have you considered adding Narcan to your med kit? Idk your state's laws but in my state you can pick it up on a standing order from any pharmacy and I have heard of some healthcare professionals who carry it daily just in case they walk in on someone overdosing. obviously your flight packs have it in there but just a thought since you would probably recognize signs of an overdose and those chest compressions arent going to be worth a ton if you're fighting a ton of opioid-induced respiratory suppression

    Great video. The ankle hold appears very bulky. I’m a bigger guy and that will not allow pant leg to come down over. Still stuck using an old soft ankle holster with gauges, stop bleed, and military turnakit only. Just enough to allow pant leg to drop. Great video regardless. Would love the watch if it wasn’t so expensive.

    I have to admit, I’m very surprised that you carry all of those more obscure items in your ankle kit (needle, airway), but not a chest seal. Am I missing something? I’m building out an EDC ankle kit currently and I was planning on stocking it with a SOF-T, quick clot gauze, and a compact vented chest seal (twin pack), and possibly a compression bandage and/or shears if I felt I had the extra room. Do you recommend against carrying a chest seal now? Seems likely that someone could be shot in the chest/lung in a civilian context. Thanks!

    • @Raggle

      unless you are a place where it takes paramedics longer than 1h to reach then a chestseal or decomp needle really isnt necessary

    Unfortunately I don't carry much if not any medical gear for my EDC. I was a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy, but literally all of my skills mean nothing in the civilian world. I only recently started carrying a firearm, and that's because more and more situations have happened where I would have preferred to have them.
    It sucks knowing I have the skill set to use things like a decomp needle, but liability is such a huge risk. Unless it's a family member, I wouldn't use most of my skills. For that reason alone I stopped carrying anything medical except in my car and on hikes.
    But the turnaround is that knowing when to act and having that ability is almost more important than actually carrying things. I saw a car accident where someone had this really nice kit in their truck, but the guy was so shaken up. No concussion, no serious damage to his vehicle, and he was still a deer in the headlights. I assessed both parties but it was the one time EMS got there in a timely manner, and I just walked away.
    So, it's not really by choice, but I take the risk of not carrying medical EDC. But I trust my ability to act, and like you said, a shirt can solve a lot of bleeding problems worse case.

    • @BlueJayWaters
      @BlueJayWaters 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PrepMedic True. Short of a tourniquet, all of that can be done with outside items, with knowledge and skills. Unfortunately makeshift TQ's are not effective, which is why I can see a use for people to carry one. My EDC is extremely minimalist, so if I ever carry a backpack or briefcase, I do throw a CAT in there.

    So Im a little late to the vid, but just out of curiousity, is there any reason your not carrying a chest seal? I feel like if your carrying an NCD, it would make a lot of sense if you were to carry a chest seal. I understand you can make an improvised one pretty easy, but to me I feel like it would just make more sense to have one on hand
