    That is truly beautiful !!! You did a great job with adding lots of colour, but not overlapping, and having things get muddy looking. Very nice tutorial, and what a beautiful dress !!!!!

      Stunning! I have some beloved linen pieces that have been stained, or have fabric paint. Can they still be tie dyed? Do they have to be white?

    Great tutorial. I am an indigo Dyer and use the same folding techniques. I also wrap in spots using thread or floss. And I love adding some shibori stitching. I didn’t quite understand the technique you used on the top in the center. It looked accordion folded and then folded on itself. The results were fabulous. Please make follow up videos with the rest of the pieces you showed. I am definitely doing this to make fabrics to add to a quilt.

    Gorgeous. Did you know you can unzip the zip ties and save them? Get a tiny screwdriver or large sewing needle that fits into the end of the ziptie that you slip the long loose end into. Inside is a piece of plastic that holds and 'locks' the tie... press down on that and it releases the long end(so that you can pull it apart).... You don't have to cut your ties short, just reuse them. And you won't have to worry about accidentally cutting the fabric to release the ties.

Thank you, and thanks again for the great video. I’m looking forward to 2,3&4.

    • @gardeningfamilies
      @gardeningfamilies  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To keep an area white you could wrap it in a plastic bag and tie it off, or plastic wrap. Just make sure the edges are secured.

    • @gardeningfamilies

      Probably just the intensity of the inner part the color ribbon. I would think that dye on top gets more even distribution than the other way.

    Wonderfull dress 🙂 I have a powdered dye, but I've been dyeing fabrics with boiling (and salt I think) Is that the same dye or this is another type of dye only for ice technic? The effect is the same, I just think that maybe this is the easier way to do it. Do you know if the type dye is the same?

    • @gardeningfamilies
      @gardeningfamilies  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are fiber reactive dyes and there are hot water reactive dyes. According to the website I buy from, "Because of the heat requirement (dye baths should ideally be 130-150° F), these dyes work better for solid color "tub dyeing" than for colder water techniques like tie-dye & batik. BUT, you can use them for tie-dye & low immersion techniques if you batch (cure) them really warm, like all day in the sun under black plastic, or under an electric blanket (in the winter). More time makes up for less heat. Otherwise, use them just like our other Dharma Fiber Reactive (Procion type) dyes, only with longer curing times for low immersion techniques. We've gotten very good tie-dye results by curing them 24-48 hours in regular room temperatures actually, except that Blacks usually need more heat." So I would say that they are different in how you apply them, but you can get the same results.
