  • It was fun to re visit this tie-dye design, about 5 years ago I did this on a tee shirt and planned to do more and then life happened.... anyways, here is a twist on the RonStar tie-dye design with results at the end. And this was Ice Dyed.
    I have lots of how to videos to watch about how to do tie-dye, some tips and tricks on tie-dye and some reveal videos where I open a tie-dye after rinsing it so be sure to take a look around.
    I am still learning how to fully use TH-cam, so I will be making changes as I learn, Thank you for your patience.
    Also you may see some other videos from my life of magic and wonder, but I will try to keep non tie-dye videos to a minimum,
    If you would like to see more of my completed work here, you can check out many albums here:

    If you would like to buy an awesome tie-dye tee, dress, tapestry and more from my store, you can find it here:

    Ready to Walk on Rainbows?? I tie-dye shoes as well, you can place a custom order from my Etsy Store by clicking here:

    One more note, I am learning about Live Video Streaming on TH-cam so I hope to start doing those soon and at some point I will set a day of the week for a regular live video stream where you can ask me questions while I work. #MrTieDye #HowToTieDye #RonStar An easy way to show support or appreciation for my channel ... You are the reason why I started shopping at Dharma. They seem like nice people too.
    You could do video on pricing and amounts of dye? When I bought, I bought a LOT because I was super scared about only getting a tiny bit of dye, but the amount in a 2oz can was surprisingly a lot.
    I think that people might be scared of the investment, but I spent $200 cautiously buying a lot, because I was sure that I wouldn't get much and I can probably dye 500 shirts now, haha.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      yes I can do a video like that.... I had not thought about it but you are right about a new person just starting out ... I will do some math and figure how much dye you can make from a jar just to give people a better idea ... thank you for the suggestion.

    • @FaeoreNeko
      @FaeoreNeko 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was really curious about how much powder you get in a can. I asked the Dharma people and they told me that 3 cans should do 50 shirts. I don't know what their math is on ratios. When I add water to the dye, I wing it.
      I also like that you can reuse the soda ash water. Seems like a little batch of water can go a long ways.

    Curious regarding using liquid dyes for this technique - is it possible to freeze cubes of dye/water mix and lay those out to melt through? Any experience trying that method? Just brainstorming since I haven’t invested in dharma dyes yet but I’d like to give ice-dyeing a try with the liquids I have on hand if it’s possible.
    Also thank you for all of your videos - huge inspirations in making shirts for my kids. They love them!

    I tell Al of my friends about you- amazing stuff. Questions: if this was done on a shirt, is the shirt “centered” first or just folded in half? For the fold size - if on a shirt is the mark at 2 inches, or is this really a preference deal? Yes, I can experiment, but would like an expert’s opinion

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much... I Love seeing more people having fun and success with this art. as for doing this on a tee, I just fold in half... and then I just pleat the size that evens out rather than measure 2 inches or 3 inches, I fold back and forth and make it even, then flip over and fold the other half of the tee up.... then I do the Ronstar fold .... one thing to keep in mind... if the pleats are too narrow, then you will have a lot of them and then the Ronstar fold may be a little more difficult... I hope that made sense ✌🏻. have fun!! ✌🏻💚🥳🌈

    If one were to use liquid dye, would one still use a 4th color to drizzle over the other 3 colors? Daughter wants this design, but has a kit...

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that is totally optional ... sometimes it can just add a little something extra to the design ...
      and if you have a One Step Kit, one thing that will help achieve better colors is to get everything folded up and ready to dye Before you mix the dyes... as soon as you add water to the bottles, the dyes are active and will give the best colors if used right away ....
      one more thing, if you have soda ash, do a pre soak and it to will improve your colors, here is one more video where I discuss ways to improve your colors : th-cam.com/video/vXFh3CIMJGc/w-d-xo.html

    • @MrTieDye

      you need to leave the soda sh in the shirt when you dye it as the soda ash is what causes the dye to bond with the cotton fabric ..... but it is best to at least squeeze out the excess soda ash and maybe let it dry and then dye

      I have used dental floss for some folding and tying of mandalas on tapestries, but I do not think it will be strong enough for this type fold on a dress, but you can certainly try it out.... it might be strong enough to hold things in place, just not for pulling as tight to get the lines left by the sinew ..... I have found small rolls of sinew in arts and craft stores like Michaels

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the star shape comes from folding in half and then doing the airplane folds ... you are basically folding the tee up in a circle... so then when you do the RonStar folding method, you get a star shape
      BUT, for this, I folded across the dress and then did the RonStar Fold, giving me the pattern going down the tee instead of in a circle shape ✌🏻

    • @MrTieDye

      when it is time to ice dye it, I like it to be dry, this one I folded dry since it was a mandala... but for one like the fan fold, it is easier to do when it is damp.... then I will let it sit to dry out before I add dye and ice ...... also, I am not an expert at ice dye so this is just how I do it
