Fixing A Poorly Aligned Drawer / Drawer Slide Problem

Another way would have been to adjust the channel attached to the drawer vertically to counter the ascend of the slide.

It might be weird, but out of all your videos, I always like these ones where you fix issues the most. I always overthink these sorts of things, and a lot of your solutions are simple, economical, and you still talk about alternatives as well and why in the particular situation you are using such a fix that you have gone with that approach. Valuable information!

    Hi john,
Thank you for the video. I am the owner a professional cabinetry business in Nashville. The way we handle this issue is similar to yours. This is what we do: We screw the slides in as normal, then we add a #6 screw with a washer to the front and to the rear of the slide. Then we remove the original 5mm euro screws. After that, we are able to easily make sure the slide is level with the face of cabinet by simply loosening the #6 screw a tad.. Then slightly moving the slide up/down.. After the sweet spot is hit, we add new 5mm euro screws. This process takes us 5 minutes per cabinet.

If you look at these slides closely, you'll see some slots for screws - not round holes. With these you can adjust slides position first, and after add screws in every round hole.

I presume the slides on each side of the drawer work independently of each other since you didn't adjust the right side. I always use a level, but the square is better. Great tip. Would have been nice to address other reasons for the problem you faced. I appreciate videos which address problems . . . figuring out why something didn't turn out correctly is always a challenge. Rare for TH-camrs to show they are less than perfect.

so, i have a unique issue. my parents had a cabinet made in indonesia and its here in vermont now. the lower drawers however are very hard to open and to close, and i checked it out earlier today (its been a few years since we got it here and i havent done any thing to try and fix the issue till now) so, the slides that where used are the type with two wheels that one glides within or along the track. super simple. so i checked the slides for bent sections, but they where perfectly straight according to the straight edge i used. so that wasn't the issue. but i found a 1/16th inch difference from the front end to the back end on the slides, so i figured the slides where out of parallel. however, the wood, which was supposed to have been kiln dried, has, understandably, warped a bit. so, i am not certain if the issue is individual to the warping, or a dimensional issue in the work itself, or a combination of the out of parallel, as well as the warping of the wood. so, ultimately, i want to try and fix the issue, but am not sure how to go about doing that. ive thought about maybe shimming one side of the drawer slides on the cabinet itself to make up for the difference and regain the parallelism. or, do i mark where the slide in the cabinet itself lies in the back of the cabinet, and cut or try to cut a 1/16th inch notch where the slide contacts the wood, to account for the warp and alignment issue. another thing ive thought about was maybe somehow replacing the slides entirely, though that probably woudlnt account for the warping. thus, i wonder how i solve this issue in particular. options i know of, 1: change the slides entirely, 2: cut a notch or shim the slides in the cabinet to align with the slides on the drawers... or 3: modify the drawers instead somehow. its been about 5 years since the cabinet was made and delivered here, so, i don't know how much more warping it can do, so if i fix the parallelism issue, but it warps some more, iw oddly probably be a bit screwed, and have to do the work again some time. as i am not exactly experienced enough to make an informed decision on what the best course of action would be, i have been looking for any sort of ideas, that might help me decide what to do and how to do it. oh and, i am not entirely certain how i find how out of parallel the slides are, so i can then quantify exactly how much to shim or cut to bring things back to parallel and aligned. thanks for whatever answer you can give. =)

If you mean "L" shaped, that would triple the time it would take to make the drawers and they wouldn't be as sturdy. Strength for these comes from the continuous front and back from side to side.
Besides, I've not shortage of space in this kitchen and these drawers double the usable space there already.

I get a new bedroom set about three years ago and today I realized that the dresser drawers (all of them) started to lean towards the left!!! I check the smaller one and there was no issue.... The only thing I can even make sense of is that I have a huge triple windows that faces the sunrise and the dresser is exposed to the sun... That being said, is there a possibility the the sun is causing the wood to warp or something? I mean the fault was so precise that either that or an alien fooled with it. One drawer even start to rub a little when its closing and opening....

I'm trying to fix a homemade drawer issue which is indeed driving me insane : opened, the drawer leans on the right, closed, it leans on the left. I'm 99.9% sure this is a bad rails alignment and/or level but I've no idea how to align them properly, knowing that the drawer is only 14cm wide. I can't put a level inside between the two rails and even if I could, I don't know how to get the right height AND the proper level at the same time. I'll get it there eventually, but God this is driving me nuts! :)

maybe an optical illusion but in the last video it looks like the slide for top drawer moved when you put the screw in, so that might be why that was ok. th-cam.com/video/YZ_d3ytGWfU/w-d-xo.htmlm50s

Another issue you didn't address is now that you have raised the left bottom drawer slide, you are now going to have to raise the left top drawer slide to compensate or the drawers will hit on the left side and not close properly.

He raised the slide on the drawer and in the cabinet, which kept the drawer in the same position.

you did not fix it.The easy way is to just lose the screws open it and push it downwards a lil bit.
