Derek was 1 of the best faceoff men in the league. He shadowed all the big scorers like Beliveau, Hull and Howe. I loved watching him and Eddie Westphal on the penalty kill.
As a young teenager, Derek was my idol. I followed his career with enthusiasm, and wanted to be just like him. In one aspect, I succeeded...drinking. What I am most happy about is that we both got sober! What a gift! Mark 5/8/1994
I wore number 7 because of Esposito...but make no mistake, Orr was a legend. Sanderson was also a great player and a huge part of their team. Hockey Night in Canada was Toronto, Montreal and Boston......I choose Boston as my fav team.
Put down the Laptop and read the book “ I gotta be me “ by Derek Sanderson. I’ve read a lot of good books in my life and that was one of the ones I enjoyed reading the most.
I was born in 78 my dad's last name was Sanderson my mom wanted to name me Dustin but my cousins said you should name him Derek and sure enough my name was Derek Sanderson when I was younger I didn't know why people always said your name is Derek Sanderson then I figured it out..Especially being from Canada that name was huge in the 70s and 80s..I played hockey till I was a teenager I got into the booze and other shit..loll I was a pretty good player but I'll never know..
It isn’t cheap to have that kinda fun. A strong willed person can put that behind, move on and become a great person. He was a character, that’s for sure.
Back when players didn't wear helmets, there was a lot more personality on the ice. Helmets are needed from they took something away from the entertainment.
Be better, Spidey! As was noted, Sanderson was magical from 1967-72. If he'd kept up that play, although we all know why he didn't, IMO he'd have been borderline HOF.
@@petegoodwinboston4825no doubt he “ could have”. I “ could have” been a doctor…… two cent head = bought into his own BS. An idiot in an era wrought with idiots. I’m sure both of his remaining brain cells are having a helluva time trying to find one another.
I remember those glory years I grew up in Boston I was just a kid at the time.
But those guys were my idols.
My favorite bruins era and players, Derek and Bobby two of my favorites
The self proclaimed "best face-off" man in hockey.
What a greaf time that was to be a fan of the Bruins tuff fast temates that coverd for each other awsome
Awesome to relive those days 👍......what Sanderson did after hockey is also very notable both the downside and his ability to come back from that 👏

My favorite bruin .A I took his number 16 in every team I played on 😊
I wore number 7 because of Esposito...but make no mistake, Orr was a legend.

Great to see my good friend Kevin Vautour in this!
Orr was tough when he had to fight.
Awesome
My Dad thought that the referees favored Bobby Orr. Touch Bobby, penalty!
Sanderson was a playboy and a rockstar...ironically the guy he had that fight with helped him back to a road of sanity and recovery.
Icon...Legend here...
Derek was great
Orr was a tough kid but neither he nor Derek would have done anything to piss off Teddy Green. That guy was tough!

Always admired the Bruin named “Turk”

The story I heard Bobby Orr was the one that got him as a broadcast

Bold enough or crazy enough ?
My favorite was Ray Nelly bergeron Chara and Bobby Orr we're the best I ever there were the best. Best of the bruins
Sanderson blew it, he had talent on a great team then left for million dollars then spent everything on parties
It isn’t cheap to have that kinda fun. A strong willed person can put that behind, move on and become a great person. He was a character, that’s for sure.
Go bruins
Wasn't Sanderson a junkie at one point ? That would be a junkie challenging the golden number four Bobby Orr.
Bobby did help Turk get back on his feet when he was down and out.
Chip chop see ya later Nats -DS
Fred asking DS a question when he knew his mouth was full of ice cream
Cool cat 😅🏒
They didn’t take shit from anybody
Back when players didn't wear helmets, there was a lot more personality on the ice. Helmets are needed from they took something away from the entertainment.
Sanderson looks like the guy who invented the sex panther cologne in the anchorman movie
Didn't watch the vid ...yet.
Although the title is deceiving
Great recovery story..people need friends to help.. 🙏 ...awful color man later..just brutal to listen to..He aged Fred Cusick 10 yrs
Go
Thousand dollar hands and a two cent head. Dude was a sideshow at best.
Be better, Spidey! As was noted, Sanderson was magical from 1967-72. If he'd kept up that play, although we all know why he didn't, IMO he'd have been borderline HOF.
He was a very good hockey player. Made a great comeback in life
