      @@AfrikanHairGod thank you, I was prompted by your explanation to research further for clarification. I found that petroleum is the liquid crude oil from which petrolatum is derived. I had been thinking the relationship was sisters or cousins perhaps. But now I understand it’s mother and daughter. I am MCS and some petroleum derived products are toxic to me. Thank you so much. Your affirming and informative videos are such a gift to us wanting to care for our hair vs fight it into submission. 👍🏾💐👏🏾

      Same! After so many years I’ve finally got my staples. Everytime I try and get cute and not use grease my hair is dry and snapping!!! I only use it on my stands tho. Not my scalp. I don’t really use anything on my scalp. I only use oil when my scalp is exposed because i like the shiny scalp look😂.

    I LOOOVE grease okay! Grease nourishes my 4c hair. I use the hemp Indian hair grease as well or Doo Gro triple strength time to time. I use it on my daughter’s hair too. I was using grease with a mixture of this tea tree aloe vera gel I get on Amazon and JBCO on my daughter’s head and it her hair grew so long. She had healthy waist length hair at 4 years old. That was a year ago. Then I tried coconut oil and products that contained coconut oil in it (which is nearly all of them on the market nowadays SMH) and it was sooo drying that it broke our hair off!! So now I’m on a new hair growth journey and back to using my holy grail products. The simpler my products and styles the healthier was our hair!

But I also noticed that my hair was/is still really suffering from dryness. Back when our moms did our hair with grease and basic items, our hair was long. Because they believe geese clogs the scalp. Which leads to dandruff. But in reality grease it too big to clog the pores, it simply “covers” it. Think a bucket, imagine a sheet covering the top of the bucket, rather than the sheet being in the bucket. Grease is the sheet over the bucket, allowing air in and out. Coconut oil is the sheet in the bucket, filling it. Not allowing nothing else in or out. Hope this helps

      All you need a lil dab, enough to see a “shine” on your finger. Almost translucent in color, but enough to see to the color. Think the Dax brand, (I use this), it’s green right? You shouldn’t see that deep green on your finger when you go insert your finger, just a “clear” green. That amount is more than enough for your scalp. Now for your strands, I apply a quarter of a dime sized amount, for each section of your hair. So if you part your hair in 4 sections, after you blowdry, a quarter of a dime sized amount is plenty. Just rub your hands together and run it through your hair. Especially ends! Hope this helps!

      This is fine if you air dry, not blow dry. Also, make sure the hair is damp and not sopping wet.

    How should one correctly apple grease? Should we do like back in the day, part the hair and take a dab down the part? Or should we isolate the grease to the bottom half of our strands?

    I remember when all the young ones were talking about I don’t use grease. Years later; they needed a big chop bc our hair needs oil! We don’t shampoo daily bc then our hair would be Brillo dry! Our sebum doesn’t overly produce like other people! So while you were frying and drying your hair out…I was waiting on your hair repair appointment. 💯 Better put a lil oil on it! 😂

    I’m glad I found your channel. What do you think about using shea butter on the hair as a sealant instead of grease? I really like shea butter, but now that I’m seeing this I wonder is grease the better option……

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Use what you feel works best for you but I hate shea butter. I don't think it's great as a moisture retainer. The hair is always greasy but dry underneath when I would use it or get clients that used it. Try grease for yourself and see but be sure your clarify that shea butter off cuz it's stubborn

      I can’t imagine that being a good product combo after having used both separately I’d say to simply use the grease alone and wet hair right after washing when it’s most hydrated

      It helps RETAIN moisture... to keep the hydration/moisture that you apply from escaping so quickly. Like lotion or Vaseline does for the skin. 😊
