This is a great cover! His live performances are the best!
I love this man. Saw him play at house of blues in Houston just last week and it blew my mind. He had a band which was a great complement but honestly could have put in the whole show alone. He inspired me to also cover this song. I just posted it on my channel if anyone is interested in checking it out!
Great comment. It goes to show the kind of respect he has for David. Both are amazing in my mind. Really like this cover
Just want to say...this is by far my favorite cover of this song. If you want a different experence with the song...then I would recommend increasing the playback speed to 1.25. Sounds amazing either way.
one of the best last lines of a song ever if that makes sense..
this cover is better than the original
Damn his voice goes perfectly but his low strings are JUST out of tune and it hurts. Oh well.
didn't think i could love this song any more, but damn. freaking amazing.
I'm gonna try it, I'm gonna try it...
perfection. So glad I stumbled upon this today.
That last line is a killer
kexp never dissapoints. always ahead of the music scene with the newest artists out thyere. thank you for uploading music worth listing to
the tuning master
Well, I think it's impossible to do Bazan justice, but I love that he covered this...very enjoyable.
De mis artistas favoritos, ojalá venga pronto a México. :')
Nunca vendrá, yo ya lo acepte :(.
Paranoid Android Mierda. :'(
You used to feel like a smoker
Shivering in the cold
Waiting outside the bar
Till the opener's over
But now you feel like a drinker
Twenty days off the sauce
Down at the liquor store
Trying to call your sponsor
You used to feel like the forest fire burning
But now you feel like a child
Throwing tantrums for your turn
You used to sound like a prophet
And everyone wanted to know
How you could tell the truth
Without losing that soft glow
But now you feel like a salesman
Closing another deal
Or some drunk ship captain
Raging after the…
NO apology required. I like both versions immensely.
Is this just fantasy?
what the fuck
Its so weird to hear people like this, people who wholly encompass the entire upper echelons of musical greatness by themselves, apologize for not doing someone else's song justice.

the feels man... the feels
David Bazan plays it in standard tuning with capo on 1. Something like G C Am D D7 during the verse and then C D G Em Bm C D G during the following part I believe.
I love the music he makes but this. this gives him cool points from me.
It's awesome to know that awesome artists listen to other awesome artists.
I love him, and I love this song so much. First song I ever heard that mentions an AA sponsor.
If I could sum up what the definition of beautiful music is with a video, I'd take someone here. This is what it's all about.
they're a lot similar to the chords in king of spain?
a tab for that'll be easier to find!
the tuning is open Cmajor
anyone knows a tab of this song! is the tuning in open G? I'm burning to play this right now!
Yeah! Incredible. I love this song. I still prefer the original, but I love TTMOE, and this is just awesome.
always reminds me of summer nights sitting on the dock listening to Taighe play, miss you brother now and forever.
does anyone know what kind of guitar is he playing? what brand is it?
@Eric Na, The chords sounds from ear like an Am, G, Em, and two barr chords for strumming(or possibly a C chord considering the capo position). then just look at the video to grasp how he plays. If you really wanna figure it out just listen and try to duplicate it.
This song is in open c tuning it’s F Bb g c d
When he said "Sorry David" at 0:17 he sounded like Forrest Gump. xD
Sounds like it's the same as Wind and Walls, CGCGCD.
never heard of Carmel Guitar Co.. very nice
Son this is beautiful
Does anyone know the tuning/chord shapes?
i could listen to this on repeat for hours...
“Suggested Retail Price” - $4,200.00

Stunning!
better than David's.

david bazan is so much better..
Bazan does it better. One of the things that makes Davids music so beautiful is that it is straight-forward, stripped down and honest. This guys voice is way to kitschy to do the song any justice. Even the tuning is just too much. I'm sure he's great playing his own music but it's just too much for a Bazan song.
But not in the way I'm saying he does it no justice. He didn't say "this tuning is way too intricate and and pointless my voice is too forced to do this song any justice". Again, it may work for his own music but it's an ill fit for a Bazan song.
Sorry you like bullshit and are easily butthurt The Finley :*(
Nah i just appreciate this artist, and the fact he introduced me to David bazan through his cover. note - COVER. not "impersonation" COVER. Cover means in your own style.
Good day :)
Agreed.
The Finley THIS.
