- "Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma" is most famous revolutionary saint-poet Purandara Dasa of 16th century Karnataka. His contribution to Karnatic music is also fabulous. He tirelessly tried to reform unjust social practices like untouchability of his times. Influence of his work and devotional lyrics still remains strong and inerasable.
In this Kirtana, Purandara Dasa invites Goddess Lakshmi to his home and seeks her blessing to attain wealth, not only material but also spiritual. He likens this enlightening journey of every human being to the slow and steady process of churning curd. As the butter reveals itself when the curd is churned, may the Grace of Lord Laxmi manifest in the life and the soul of a true devotee.
This kirtan is very popular and is often played when a newly wed bride enters the husband's home for the first time.
Sarhad's most famous singer Shamima Akhter has sung this eternal song of Purandara Dasa in her wonderful voice. The music is composed by Sarhad's famous music director Mazhar Siddiqui. I think she might've written the song in her language and singing, hence some pronounciation mistakes may be there. One can ignore it. Most of the multi lingual playback singers dont learn all the languages they sing. They write it in their mother tongue or any language they are fluent. Lata mankeshkar ji, Asha bhosle ji, Usha Uthup ji, SP. Balasubramanian ji, etc are examples.
