One thing about cinder blocks is they can collapse. Many people have been seriously hurt using them instead of jack stands on a vehicle. A 120-150 gallon tank can weight as much as some cars.

This might be a dumb question but I have an 80cm long ciano tartarium (shown at 2:50) for my new musk turtle hatchling. I've only had her for two weeks and while she was settling in, I chose to fill the tank only halfway. I work a five day week and worried about her getting into trouble while I was gone. I read online that since they aren't great swimmers, it's best not to overwhelm a hatchling with too much water. I'd like to add some tetras as tank mates and am wondering is the water level thing misinformation? Is it okay to fill the tank almost fully so long as she has enough to climb on, or is there a risk she will get tired? Any advice is appreciated. :)
She often mentions that musk turtles don’t bask, but I think thought it’s true that it’s common for musk turtles to not bask often, it depends on your turtles so don’t change ur setup to have less basking area right away. I have two musk turtles one of them basks all the time, and my other one basks at night and is usually shy to bask when other people are around. So even if you don’t see ur turtle basking, it is probably basking while ur not there so make sure to still keep that in mind.
I’d like to know how much clean one should clean the sand, all the tank, the ornaments, because I usually feed my turtle with fish and I don’t know if there are special filters to keep the water that clean 😊
Im also from the Netherlands and I’m also getting a musk turtle I think the reason why there are “many” Dutch people with musk turtles is because they are thé smallest legal water turtles that you can legally have/buy in the Netherlands

I’ve never owned turtles before this is a first time experience you have been a lot of help. Thank you. Both turtles their owners didn’t want to them anymore so I adopted them and I’m learning day by day. Thank you again
Please could you help me with a few queries, thanks! *I would love one for my empty 40l tank but I feel its too small. Would it be suitable for the first couple years while it's only small? *Also I am growing a carpet of aquarium 'grass' which is growing in gravel. in one of my tanks...would this be safe? *Would some sponge filters be safe to use instead of an internal, filter? Thank you!
Hey. Just a question, Why do you think they need more water? Our Musk turtle called Elvis cant swim, or atleast really really bad. He just climb the logs to breath, then hang upside down put his claws in the Wood and levitate down. 😂 We must put him in a separate Box just so he can eat since he cant swim to the surface. I have experienced alot what he like most, and it seems like he Loves low water most. Walking around and put his head Up to breath. Instead of half panicing trying to find a Path Up to breath.

I don’t know why people say Musk Turtles don’t bask much, mines are always basking, every-time I come into the room they are up in their above tank basking area. Also where do we submit pictures?
I just got two red eared sliders and there still babys I have a small tank and a bit of water because I’m scared if they drown there still 4cm how many gallons do I need and if I don’t have a basking area

It is pretty clear that you know nothing about musk turtles. Sorry for saying. Let me help:
1. musk turtles only must be in shallow water (they should be able to put the nose out of the water when stretching = about 10 cm from the sand/gravel to the surface)
2. they are social animals. In the wild, they are found in groups.
3. they need a basking lamp over the water as they bask from under the water. The basking lamp must be a UV lamp (adapted for reptiles). Not a desert type one. Not a simple light for reptiles and not a heater lamp. Musk turtles need UV rays to process some minerals and nutrients, particularly some much needed for the shell.
4. the only time when they get out of the water is to lay eggs, therefore they need a box full of sand or gravel (no sharp edges) in which they can dig and ideally a shelter.
5. the bottom of the tank must be laid with about 10 cm of gravel (no sharp edges) and/or sand because they spend most of their life buried (it has been discovered recently that they can breathe under the water using their tongue, even if they go to the surface as well).
6. The filter must be a cascade type as they usually live in water that is close to stagnant (yet it is not) such as lakes. No strong current. No current at all in fact. And because they create a lot of waste, the filter must be cleaned and the water changed once a week.
7. ideal temperature is 25 degrees C. Max 28. They can go lower but under 10 degrees C they will go into hibernation.
8. they need a very long tank so they can exercise.
9. their natural habitat tends to be very planted.
10. They should not be manipulated. Each time you take them out of the water and away from the basking lamp, they get cold and frightened. Also, they are very agile, so they could slip off your hands, fall, damage their shell, and potentially die.
11. Musk turtles are mostly nocturnal. Sorry. They spend most of the day basking under water or buried. If you want fun, you'll have to stay up at night with a night reptile light for instance.
12. they are very good climbers! Make sure the decor in your tank does not give them opportunities to get away. Because of course, let's face it, they get anxious in a tank. They kind of feel that it is not natural so they spend a lot of time, most of the time when awake, trying to escape. I live you to think about it.
