Thanks Mario for sharing the video. I don’t work on german cars but watching this videos makes me to understand how the systems works and makes it easier for me to understand. Most german cars don’t give enough informations. Makes me to start working on them soon. Thank you again and till the next time.
thanks mario for once again with the education I recently went to a free training event at a communinty college about can communication system and it was amazing and open my mind You have inspired me to go to more training events once again thanks mario
perfect example for testing if you think that something is at fault think and test the next item that could be at fault if it's not the first item in the list and like Santa check it twice so did the dme naff the cas by grounding 15-3 thank you super M for the video
Great video, Mario. I was at the SEMA show last week and visited the Topdon booth. Their products ARE impressive. I mentioned that I watch your videos and they knew exactly who you are. Keep up the great work.
I have to say, oddly enough I have not run into this code yet, thanks for sharing the testing behind it, and even crazier to have encountered the two problems at one time. Nice Diag! 👍👍
I’m not a BMW guy (not many in my area). Is terminal 15 just a wake up or does it actually supply voltage to the module? Just wondering if the 15_3 output only outputs a few mA to signal the DME to wake up. The CAS was showing 13v output while connected but the DME was setting the fault for short to ground/no voltage even though voltage was present. The DME was for sure bad since it couldn’t see the power at the input. I just wish service information would provide us with a better understanding of how the modules operate and what kind of limits they have. If SI said CAS will provide up to 5 amps on terminal 15_3 we could easily confirm if that output is good or bad. If the SI stated the output was only rated for 1 amp the test may have been invalid. Either way the car is diag’d and fixed so it doesn’t matter. I doubt any OEM will ever provide us with all the info we want. Thanks for the video and work flow Mario.
I was wondering the same thing! Did the new DME set the same exact code with the old CAS? What was the known good 15-3 current once the car was running?
Mario i learn a lot from this video! i have 135i n54 converted to 1m and also mercedes GLA45 AMG your knowledge is awesome. next time if you can show more Alldata diagram walkthrough. Cheers
I have been searching for weeks on how to fix this exact same error code on the same year model car. I literally just did your exact same procedure tonight before I found this video!!!! The only difference in the whole testing procedure is that I did NOT EVER have 12v at the yellow/green wire after checking multiple times before applying the Power Probe. So I applied 12v, cranked it and it started and died. I was so excited! But listen to this... Now the yellow/green wire HAS 12v on its own Every time without applying manually with power probe! But, back to cranking no start😢 I find it very strange that me applying 12v manually has somehow brought this line from CAS back to life with 12v. But its not starting. This was a GREAT video! What would you suggest Mario? By the way, this is going to sound stupid but I scrolled past this video for about a week because it was 25 minutes long and was looking for a short quick video/fix 😂😂 dont laugh!
I liked the wire diagram explanation :) btw, why replace both cast module and DME and not try to see if replacing one solves the problem ? just curious :)
Any reason why you use a 4 amp bulb to check power at ECM connector instead of a normal test light? Have you been burned by not using a high enough amperage bulb before?
Another DME bites the dust lol 😅 Aren't the CAS outputs low amp circuits Mario? More like a wake up signal... Not surprising the 4A bulb pulled it right down to ground 🤔
Not always, the cas send the starter solenoid command as well Which is at least 10 amps Plus i installed the dme first just in case and had a crank no start
BMW!.. my favourite 😍, much appreciate ur time. May I ask which brand you r using as a torque wrench? Pls ignore my question if it was "snap on" 😅. Thanks a lot Mr Mario 🙏
my daughter has a bmw 530xi she came to visit me on fri her serpentine belt was broken i replaced it on i cant get it to start i replaced the starter but it sounds like the start er is not strong enough to start the car please help on the infomation
Either the belt got into the front main seal and got ingested by the engine or you have a bad ground. Try running a jumper cable between the engine block and body ground
Had a dodge ram with 6.7 did 5k worth of repairs (turbo, injectors, eger cooler) fixed his original issus (whit smoke and runs rough) ran it for 3 days straight road testing and the last day truck dies no warning wont re-start no comm 🤦♂️ found ECM and TIPM fried 🤷♂️ lol
I have a question the terminal 15 goes from cas modgule to the dme then branches to all the sensors as a feed what happens when one sensor shorts or a intermittent shirt to that sensor does it shut down the whole terminal branch down until you find that short .
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics looking at oem digram I got confused it goes through a resistor then to the transistor the way bmw got me confused .also the ignition coils example get a feed from dme that says terminal 15 that's 12v correct thanks.
CAS , terminal 15 missing , very very very common MSV90 internal fault problem. Just clone the ISN , eprom and flash file to another one and it s good to go In order to repair that module , need to heat gun that thing to tear that stupid glue n dive in to deal with the cpu
It would have been nice to see the current being drawn by the DME on 15_3 now it's repaired. The CAS might only supply a low current wake-up type signal to the DME on this line. I'd have just changed the DME first and then the CAS if necessary. DME on these are junk. Cars are to be fair 😜

I wish we had the info. For good measure i installed the dme first, still crank no start. Then cas
Oh btw, wakeup lines are ALWAYS titled WUP
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics I didn’t know they labeled the wake up lines as WUP. Thanks for the info.

Nice job mate 🇦🇺🦘
Thanks for the video super Mario
Great job. Got to go were the data takes you good or bad it is what it is thanks for the great videos
Hi Mario, I did 5 BMW so far with that exact code. Those MSV90 DME are know to go bad. Great Video

You were able to control the milliamps you put into the module with the power probe? Thanks in advance Mario
I was able to apply a circuit breaker, but the readout is only a measurement
Never seen a scanner calling “ground” for “earth” before
Mario can it be possible to cancel the terminal 50 from tha cas and run a switch ?
Hi sir very interested case, blessings
that mini with b36 or b38 will need a fuel tank vent valve and a software update---common issues on those engine- it has a puma measure on it.

Sensors don't get terminal 15(12v), they get 5vref, if a sensor shorts out, you get 5vref shorted codes

No, not cloned
Yeah usually it's dme only.
Not this time

Wait, isn’t the 528i f10 the n20????
Not for 2011,they left the n52 in for that year

Wonder how this happened. DME wasn't accepting current so it wasn't DME that killed CAS. But even more strange is - what happened to the DME? 😎
Remember, we are testing after the failure
